Until I was about 20, I was you. As a bisexual, with women and with men. When I hit 20, I broke the cycle somehow, but to this day I tend to be attracted to and involved with older men and women.

It was my fandom friends who taught me what masturbation was, how to write good porn, and how to give blowjobs. A lot of it through hands on, if you know what I mean.

I felt awkward about it until I was old enough to look back and say I was glad it was with them instead of my own peer group, because I trusted their maturity and their wisdom, their experience, and not groping in the dark with some immature teenager who probably wouldn't understand my kind of emotional maturity.

I hope that, in the long run, you're able to take that kind of peace of mind with you, too.

Peace.

Non-stop sex scenes? Are you sure you watch the show?

Also, Primeval =/= BBC. Primeval is on ITV.

107- The terms slash was actually original for ANY relationship, not just gay ones. it comes from the slash between the names (I.e. Buffy/angel)

109- Is that canon art?

116- They were mine for awheil but...it fucked me up. I have a much healthyier body image now (Tho IDK you, I have DDDD Breast so could never reach that. Ever.)

146- That's pretty fucking awesome (Well...not the holiday bits)

166- OMZG hi me. (And I really wish people would explore all the juicy middles instead of stuff being forced into one of the three)

169- I hate that too. And I also hate how if you are any sort of good you can't be bothered by things at all in your art.

175- The whore, and dress thing (I think for a video game character that's actually really sexy WITHOUT being skanky) I can see but someone could enjoy the way someone double crosses and not the way the other does without it being about sex. (I'm not saying there aren't people who it IS about sex, but it might not just be)

102. They’re Flight Of The Conchords, right? I’ve heard of them, but I dunno what they’re about.

103. I will never unsee it. Never.

107. I always thought it meant ‘Real Person Ship’

108. OH MY FUCKING GOD, THAT’S THE BEST PIC EVER

109. Wait, are they canon now? Wat?

119. I love Christian Bale, but I think he was a poor choice for Bruce Wayne. George Clooney was better imo.

120. *Middle Eastern pride is unwarranted at the moment* Wut. Just. Wut. That’s terrible.

131. I want to be thin because I’m sick of people calling me fat. Does that count?

137. I need to see this movie. Right now.

156. OH MY GOD, CHILDHOOD GO. I always wanted to see that movie when I was little so damn much, but I never got to.

160. I read that as ‘urinal’ lol

166. There are a lot of things wrong with this secret, but overall, I agree.

171. PATRICK BATEMAN, UNF UNF.

183. I guess you don’t read fanfic then

19. Why d'you hate all of the other Batman actors?

38. As much as I love flaaffy, I'd rather have the ability to turn into one at will than be stuck as one forever.

131: After further examination, it really does seem like no one here really understands the gravity of the term 'Thinspiration', including the OP. It may not always be the case, but the term is heavily associated with eating disorders. People who post these probably have issues. 'Fitspiration' on the other hand, is all fine and dandy.

ANYWAY, if the person doesn't have a self image issue, why shouldn't they use characters for motivators to become healthy? Really... My ex boyfriend lost a lot of weight for cosplay. Just because he didn't do it with the sole purpose of becoming healthier, does that make his achievement any less?

116: See above, plox. :/

This. Word. Not to mention, I bet plenty of the people posting about "Fitspiration" aren't JUST doing to look like X character or be fuckable by Y celebrity, but sometimes being healthy isn't enough of a motivation. I, personally, am trying to lose weight because I miss how it felt to be more fit, but when I'm feeling really unmotivated, sometimes thinking about how I want to be as hot as Starbuck (BSG) or Joan (Mad Men) or whoever my girl-crush of the day is helps get my ass to the gym.

116. You're probably right that you're not the only one, and that is really, really depressing. (They're cartoon characters! Their proportions are not realistic! At least find an unhealthily thin human to emulate!)

120. You know, for a second I thought this was another Hetalia secret. Anyway, I'd heard of Afghanis-tan, but I didn't think anyone (in English-speaking fandom) had actually read it.

129. Shouldn't people avoid the fandom 'til they're done with the game if they don't want to be spoiled? I mean, that's what I've been doing, and it's worked pretty well so far. Or are the assholes in question going around shouting the Persona 4 equivalent of "Snape killed Dumbledore!" in the streets?

138. Flaafy is your thinspiration? (Woolspiration? Pokéspiration?)

129

[identity profile] debchan.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know about fandom, but if you go to the gamefaqs board looking for gameplay info you'll have a hard time avoiding being spoiled. Typical comment titles read like, "OMG, can you believe Soylent Green is actually people!?"

All you people trying to get thin (note that thin does not always equate healthy) so some random celebrity will maybe want to do you have serious issues. If you want to try and get healthy with the sole intention of getting thin so dudes will want to fuck you, you are going to end up so fucked up, seriously. You're putting your own self-image in the hands of other people (men, fucking random ass celebrities, wtf) and that is one of the most unhealthy fucking things you can do. On the one hand, yeah it's good that you're trying to get healthy, but on the other, intention is everything and attempting things like this with the wrong motivations is ultimately going to do you more harm than good. You should probably be more worried about your own mental health, tbqmfh. But then again, so should about 2/3 of the female population at this point. And we all know that if that's the way the majority thinks, it certainly can't be skewed or wrong.

tl;dr - healthy and thin are not synonymous. Your self-image is fucked. Thank you and goodnight.

148 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-01-12 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
My secret was to become fit, not thin. I'm fat. Obese. Whatever label you want to put on it. The idea of Bam pounded me into the sheets without the trampoline effect is what gets me to work out for 30 min a day. That's something real.

My self image was already damaged. I can only hope that I'll someday be able to shop at regular retailers again, and my fitspiration is what keep me going.

So, basically, think what you like. This works for me, so fuck off.

164. I think I know what you mean. I wonder the same thing sometimes. Outside of fandom I have a pretty fulfilling life- friends I hang out with, activities I participate in, family, non-fandom hobbies, etc. But I always feel like fandom is such a huge part of who I am that it's so weird to me when I meet people who aren't in fandoms at all. And I don't mean that just because fandom is a big part of me that others should be in fandoms too but everyone I know in fandoms seem to benefit from the participation. It's like when I'm on a break from my regular life fandom is what I indulge in and I feel like people who don't have fandoms have nothing. It's a stupid way of thinking but whatever, I just think it sometimes

153 I think Spike Lee is annoying and a total asshole. And Flags of Our Fathers was about specific men in a segregated unit (duh, the army was segregated in WWII). I don't like to use the word "politically correct" often but this is one instance where it definitely applies. And sometimes the best response is just "shut the fuck up."

164 Well, it's possible to be a fan of something without joining a "fandom".

180 Yeah, I heard about it. He died during production so the director is getting different actors to play the same character. I still think his last memorable role is going to be the Joker, though, not only because that movie got a wider release than this one will, but because I can't see this role upstaging that one.

105) And that's the key: They are fun. Sometimes I just don't want oscar bait -- I just want good old fashioned, low budget British fun. Sure it's sometimes just a step above community theatre, but it hooks into that part that says "Tee hee hee," and that's all I'm asking for.

113) Don't forget Re: Your Brains and Skullcrusher Mountain.

122) I have nothing against him, but I do hope they throw him on a tanning bed before he starts work. I mean, unless the Doctor is turned into a vampire by his next regeneration. Of course, that has fic possiblities -- and new purpose for the companions. But are we really ready for Doctor Dracula?

165) Oh no you don't! Get your sparkly vampires out of my 80's music!
