I didn't meet my best girl friend until I was a freshman in high school. Grade school had some lonely years, but now I wouldn't trade her for the world <3 We're freshmen in college now and we still talk every day. She has made me a firm believer that there's a friend out there for everyone. She'll come some day, and when you least expect it.

I also notice there's some trufax deep secrets in today's batch. Kudos.

105: However, what the BBC can do, and they do it tremendously well, is create fun shows which millions of all ages can watch and enjoy. BBC shows are entertainment. Which is the point of them, is it not?

121 & 122: It greatly amused me to scroll down to 122 and see an EVEN BIGGER promo shot used than in the secret before. Incidentally, I agree with both. As if that wasn't already obvious from my icon.

139: Don't think she's a bad actor because I love her and am therefore hideously biased. But she has had some terrible roles so maybe you should write that screenplay. And soon!

118

166: While I see where you're coming from, there are other reasons apart from 'ew keep vaginas away from my hot guys' as to why some people dislike reading het. Also, only liking slash doesn't necessarily mean you only like it for the penis and porn and disregard interaction and chemistry -.-
I'm sure it is the case for some people, and while I agree it is annoying, I think you're probably assuming to much.
But don't most people have the same attitude about gender roles and the like now anyway? :/

[identity profile] revulo.livejournal.com 2009-01-11 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU. For a minute, I thought I we the only person here that was going to disagree with the secret at all.

I meant--yeah, only slashing just for penis can be be annoying sometimes. But the OP wasn't taking any other reason to slash into account. I mean, the main reason I slash IS because of how characters interact with one another.

159. Dude....*sigh* You and EVERYBODY ELSE. OKAY? Okay.

164. Um, because they have other interests that fill their time? Jeez.

171. See 159. Also, Eric Stoltz needs more love because he is just that awesome.

181. What I wouldn't give to be JP right there. I quit this show two seasons ago and I still dream about JDM. Mmmmmm.

Haha, it came out in 1999, so it's ten this year. And I wasn't that young, really, just...young enough that it wasn't a surprise that I wouldn't know who John Malkovich was. 'Course when my friend found out four years ago that I still thought he was fictional, that was surprising, apparently. XD

I'm not going to bother to argue with your opinions, but, as I am sure a bunch of other people will tell you now:

Primeval, you moron, is NOT a BBC programme.

It was made by ITV - the Beeb's chavvy commercial cousin.

If you want to criticise it, be my guest, but at LEAST get your facts straight before you start.

160. Haha, you have a point, but still...I mean, I don't really care as long as they make pretty icons to use 8D. That's the only thing I care about...I think they are mostly scared of people taking them to other places...or something like that...>___>

164. Uhhh because they don't care? By the way, most people are into some sort of fandom, it may not be as internet based as some people, but get this, some people just don't need the fandom community in the...same...way...I don't know...but anyways there is an awful lot to fandom, and I think that everyone is involved in it a little, whether you consider it fandom or not. Sorry if that made no sense :/.

165. AHAHAHA I love that song! Though once the book came out I was kinda like D:. But it's so cute! And happy!

166. >___> The icon is for you, kinda...and uhhhh...yeah...it's true. There is this big prejudice in fandom, but it does go both ways xD. It is true that it shouldn't be just about what's 'hot', but I ship a lot of my het and femmeslash couples for the same reason xD.

Also 115! 154!

115. TOO CUTE TOO CUTE! Dude, I kinda do this with SHINee choreography, but it's even harder because my family is NEVER OUT OF THE HOUSE. AHHHHHHH. But anyways I support you anonymous! Let's improve our dancing through awesome Asian choreography together!! T^Tbb

154. Ahhh I feel for some of this, I'm not a lesbian but when I was younger I made some bad mistakes involving some internet relationships and got myself into some pretty deep shit that probably wasn't healthy, for much of the reason that you said (maturity...I was like 14, and I am standing on the 4 year anniversary of when I started that particular problem). Anyways! I was lonely too, but I think that sometimes all you need is someone really close to you in real life and it gets a lot better :). At least, that worked for me.

Boo. Came to the party too late to point out that Primeval is ITV, who can't make Dramas for shit anyway and churn out nowt but Robson-Green-on-the-trail-of-a-kiddie-fiddler or vets-in-trouble-somewhere-pretty-looking these days. Otherwise I'd agree with the OP, in terms of telly at least. Since I'd count New Who as a comedy and Life on Mars as a Crime Show, the only 'Straight' British made SciFi TV drama I've seen in ages was Survivors, and dear God that was a load of old wank. BBC Radio still does some fine SF Drama, though.

And Flight of the Conchords secrets make me happy :) It's more fun having friends who know them, though, so that you can shout lines of 'Inner City Pressure' at each other.

Re: 102 and 105

[identity profile] joereaves.livejournal.com 2009-01-11 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
DW, just like with Primeval and Demons (both of which are ITV shows not BBC), is family entertainment. They're meant to attract kids as well as adults, so they have to be fairly simplistic, with reasonable amount of action (or running in the case of DW), and some pretty characters. Plots that are too complex and story arcs that last too long just wouldn't work for that audience. The poster seems to be looking for serious adult oriented sci fi - in which case maybe s/he shouldn't be looking for programmes made for the early evening weekend family slot on the schedule.

And Life on Mars was never really marketed as sci fi in the UK from what I remember.

Survivors was cursed with that annoying Scottish woman from Bonekickers. Probably not good to case someone most people are going to wish hadn't survived...

164.) EVERYONE has a fandom, they're just not always media related. Fundie Christians have "Christianity" as their fandom. It "fills them" the way media fandom fills us. My brother's fandom is "Being Healthy" which includes working out and eating right and going to the gym and talking and hanging out with people who do the same. There are huge amounts of people who are into "Sports" fandoms, going so far as to pay thousands of dollars for Superbowl tickets and jerseys and whatever, never missing a game. Some people enjoy surfing as their fandom, or knitting or dancing, or drinking or bug collecting. People just don't call them fandom. They're hobbies or interests or, in some lucky cases, jobs. I disovered the world made a lot more sense when I thought about it like this. I could never understand why my brother always wanted to get me to like the things he did. I am fundamentally different--but of COURSE he wants to get me into his "fandom."

What really bothers me is why "Sports" fandom is seen as normal and healthy and possibly envious (I dare you tell someone you've spend thousans of dollars on tickets to the Superbowl) and media fandom is considered unacceptable (tell someone you spent thousands of dollars to go to a Star Trek convention).

Ah well. Fandom is what makes me happy. Sports or whatever is what makes them happy. As the saying goes: Whatever floats your boat (so long as it doesn't sink mine).

105: Finally! Someone else. I just can't watch Doctor Who, entirely because of the completely dire characterisation. When did the Doctor suddenly become such a whiny bastard? Why couldn't he enjoy himself, have his old adventures in a crappy gravel pit in Wales, without having to quickly look off camera, look 'deep' and sigh "...Rose..." every fucking episode? Seriously!

Hopefully now the fangirling mary-sue RTD is gone, we can get proper plot lines. *vents*

121 & 122: (Somewhat unrelated)... dude. Entirely not-flattering photo. o_0 What idiot in the BBC production team flicked through those shots and went "... yeah, that one. The one that makes him look like he's been hit with a shovel".

103. Could be. That baby would be around 28-30 now. Good lord, I feel old.

106. Hee. For some reason this secret made me giggle. "Wait, there is ACTUALLY an actor named John Malkovich? Wow, my mind is officially blown."

117. I wish Matoh would just continue the second season. I miss her comic so.

120. Can you tell us why you think this way? Who is the manga racist against?

133. Goku is my favorite. He makes the manga and the anime for me. Everyone else is just creamy filler.

153. He doesn't strike me as racist. However, he does strike me as someone who takes absolutely nothing from anyone, especially from a man half his age who makes wild accusations of racism every time he needs to drum up PR for an upcoming film of his. Eastwood is too old to play such games. Now get off his lawn.

180. Are you kidding? I am obsessed with that movie. Not because of Ledger. Though it doesn't hurt. But because the movie is a Terry Gilliam film! And a Terry Gilliam film that looks like he's returning to his old form like the ones of Time Bandits and The Adventures of Baron Manchausen. Plus, TOM WAITS IS THE DEVIL!!!! How cool is that? Why isn't there a trailer online yet! Come on, anyone, give me a trailer! I am salivating like Pavlov's dog.

But, seriously, he plays the devil?! Netflixing in 3-2-1...

IAWTC. Well, maybe I didn't "hate" them, esp. at the time, but looking back and trying to picture HIM as Bruce Wayne I'm all... "Bzuh?" Although George Clooney (NIPPLESUIT!) and Val Kilmer caused that in MUCH higher degrees. Still, I don't think any live human being can really top the animated/comic guy.
