114. I agree with you, which is why I'm happy that I can say with much confidence that my main fandom is nothing like that. But that's probably because males aren't really a rarity in it. The amount of both sexes in the fandom is pretty equal. But maybe the fandom interaction is the only opposite gender interaction some of them get, and y'know, ~*similar interest*~!

104. It is possible to be happier in Japan but you need to be realistic about Japanese culture and lifestyles. Otaku culture = fandom. Otaku culture ! = Japanese culture. You need to learn the language, you need to learn something about the modern culture, warts and all, you need to spend some time there. I know people who have gone there to live and loved it. I was almost one of them. I regret nothing (not even the stoner ex from Nagoya who cheated on me and his two other girlfriends and thought he was a badass, or the period when I spent so much time hanging out with my friends who worked in hostess bars that I almost got sucked into it myself, or getting dumped on New Year's Eve at Shibuya 109...) but if I had it to do over again I'd be way more philosophical about it all.

So very true, at least for every slash fandom I've ever been involved in. The first time I saw it was in the Smallville fandom and it turned out that the 'guy' everyone was fawning over was actually a girl posing as a guy. That one made me laugh for days. Then, there was at least one girl posing as a gay guy in the HP fandom. So now, when some new 'guy' comes into one of my slash fandoms, I just assume 'he' is really a she.

114. I didn't think this was true until I saw it happen recently in one of my main fandoms. o_o;;; But they DO act startlingly different. ...And honestly? I pull out the popcorn. It's hilarious. Even if he's commenting to someone else's posts, there will always be a few fangirls who have to seek him out separately and gush at whatever he posted. It actually makes them look desperate and I can't help but laugh. ~~Oh, and personally, I think he's a bit of a douche. :D~~
