Nicest FS Exchange You've Had

Or at least, that you can remember having. Let's get some positivity up in here.

I've had plenty of pleasant exchanges here, more than negative ones actually! People have recced me excellent fic, shared recipes that were delicious, made me laugh and cheered me up.

I've gotten some great recipes from FS, and good advice about everything from dish detergent to sex toys.

I've gotten some great fic recs and some awesome writing advice from the anons here. I once posted about a particularly bad day I was having and how I was crying in the restroom 'cause I was so stressed out and all the replies were so sweet and nice.

There are some days here where it's almost like we all unanimously agreed to be decent to one another and it's always such a shocking experience because I'm so used to the horror that comes with the Twitter experience. Some days are bad here on FS, of course, but when it's good here, it's real good to the point that it renews my faith in the internet. And that's why I keep returning here even after almost a decade of on and off activity.

Aside from some great fic recs (thanks!), I've also gotten sexy audio recs, recipes, books, shows, movies, all kinds of recommendations. Nail polish too!

I was even able to start doing a re-watch and discuss for a bit with others here :)

I also like that I've been able to find other people who enjoy things that I enjoy (that I wouldn't necessarily speak about elsewhere), so the world feels a little less lonely in that regard :)

One of our neighbor's cat has been in our backyard 3 times in the past week. It is stalking the birds on our bird feeder. I'm salty because of the birds and especially because seeing another cat in her territory drives my cat crazy.

So salty about this cat. It is clearly well fed. I hate when people just let their cats out without supervision. Not good for the cat or for any other animal.

Cas not being in the Supernatural finale. He was my favorite character and I thought he would’ve at least had a cameo, even if it was an off-screen, “Hello Dean, Sam”, or something. My friend finally finished watching the last season and we’ve both been talking about it, so it’s just something that’s been on my mind.

Can't stop thinking about how Benti by Nnedi Okorafor would have been so much better if it had added just five extra pages of explanation regarding two very critical and book breaking plot points.

I have a midterm exam this weekend and I'm hugely underprepared, but that's not made any easier by just... not agreeing with some of the course material? The subject is Japanese, and with languages there's a certain amount of challenge about what the convention teaches us to do verses what actual native speakers do IRL, but some of the stuff in the course is really annoying me!
Like they've given the translation of 'café' as 'きっさてん', instead of 'カフェ', which is... what I've heard actual Japanese people use? And I looked it up and 'きっさてん' means something more like 'coffeehouse' which... isn't really the same thing?
And they say '*These* are the words you use for your own family and *these* are the words you use for someone else's family', but a) I don't like 'ちち' and 'はは', and b) I can't find anyone in movies or TV shows using them! It's all 'とうさん' and 'かあさん' everywhere I look!
If I were on campus, I'd approach one of the teachers after a class or tutorial and ask them about it, but I'm studying online (I'm about 1000k from the uni itself), and I'm far too anxious to write an email about any of this. So I just sit, and seethe.

That I'm too freaked out to take my usual evening walk route after that guy put his hand on my ass last week. I've been going on night walks for three years and nothing like that happened to me the whole time, and the last time I was groped prior to that was in 2008 outside London; I live in the US. But I'm still not able to relax and it would be too easy to stay home and be sedentary and fuck up my health even more. Fucking bastard groper.

People on imgur yesterday saying you must be unforgivable scum if you don't tattle on a cheating person to the cheating person's S.O., regardless of the situation.

Guess I did my unforgivably scummy self a favor by reading the comments and not replying at all.

I'm always a little salty about my fave fandom being all but dead, but more so right now because someone other than me actually posted something for it the other day and it's really good - but I am the only comment and kudos they've gotten as of yet (and one of only two hits :(), and fic of that quality deserves more than just me. :/

Secret #3 - A Little Princess

[personal profile] tabaqui 2021-04-21 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I could never figure this out. How old *is* Sara Crewe by the time she's 'found'?
In the book, she's eleven when she gets the news about her father, but I've never really been able to figure out how old she is by the end. Twelve? Fifteen?

Anybody have an ideas?

I believe it is 4 years as a student and then about 2 years in the attic, so that would be 13, maybe 14.

Re: Secret #3 - A Little Princess

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
A Little Princess is one of my favorite books and I reread it about once a year, but for some reason, I've never thought about how old she was. For some reason, I always thought she was twelve when she was found, but I can't find any textual reason to support that.

This is admittedly a niche request but does anyone know of any good novels featuring mermen as main characters? Mermen in general are rare enough but I'd really love some male mermaids as lead protagonists and not merely as side characters or passing love interests. Bonus points if it's in the SciFi or Horror genre.

3 Options, for those who'd like to share

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Does anyone have any male harem anime/manga they recommend (as in, one lady, and all the male characters love her? Can be platonic, romantic, sexy, whatever)? Currently watching Uta no Prince-sama or something like that, I'm too tired to look up the name/remember lol

Alternatively, please share with me your favorite trash read/guilty pleasure fic. The kind that you read that you can't put down, but should, because it's not even that good (it's not even good!!!) but here you are, because there it is, ticking all these boxes you don't even want to admit you have. i.e. I love reading dark!Harry Styles fic every now and then (particularly the kind where he's part of some gang or underground crime syndicate because why) -- I don't even listen to him or One Direction! But here I am!

Whatever you choose to share, I thank you :)

Derek Chauvin found guilty on all counts!!

I had a good feeling, but it's still such a huge weight off my shoulders. I'm so happy. I know there's so much more work to do, but I really, really hope that this is a turning point in the fight for police accountability.
