FANDOM IS IMMATURE BY DEFINITION. If you post in F!S, you're instantly a child that doesn't want to grow up. NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT; it's just that all fandom lacks any kind of emotional depth that isn't dependent on some kind of external deluded-state-of-mind from our side.

[identity profile] jaclynhyde.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
102. Lucky. XD

...I feel like I should feel guilty for shipping Nite Owl/Rorschach so much. Or at least afraid that Alan Moore will kill me over the internet.
112. Snrrk.
114. Ooo, I like.
123. Everyone who posts secrets like this, and secrets about "I SKIP EVERY ANIME SECRET"...guys, reading F!S isn't an obligation. You don't have to feel guilty/like a rebel for not feigning interests in secrets you're not interested in.
125. Sturgeon's Law (although some fandoms are better than others).
127. Oh hey I know you!
130. Awwwww.
134. I really, really have to watch this show.
151. On Dan's side, I agree. For Rorschach, I'm intrigued by the little meta throwaway hints (he uses Nostalgia, which is marketed to gay men, and the awkward handshake paralleling Dan holding Laurie's hand too long). But I love their canon relationship along with liking the fic/art that adds another dimension to it.
157. Eep. Why not make a fandom journal?
168. There are some things I'm not happy about--excessive slow-mo, for one--but what really keeps me enthusiastic is that everyone involved in the movie seems to really, really respect the original, along with all the little things they do (viral videos, actor interviews, pastiching comic book movies, etc.) that capture the spirit of the comic.
N!F3. ILU, MGS fandom.

151

(Anonymous) 2009-02-23 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Nostalgia's marketed to both sexes with the models in the ads being kept androgynous to 'afford a window into the gay market'. Besides, I think Rorschach uses it because of the guy in Harry's bar making a joke about how bad he smells.

140. Oh lord, that would be epic *is reminded she needs to go check for Hard Candy fic*

[identity profile] k8iea.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Holy crap, two Hard Candy secrets in one post! Awesome.

128

[identity profile] trinity-destler.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps not a troll, but clearly a non-human of some description.

# 103

(Anonymous) 2009-02-23 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
What? Did they run out of porn to draw? Sex fics to write? Bawdy jokes to tell.

This outrages me not because it is a jibe against Kataang, but because it is trivializing a situation that is just sad. It is a bunch of bitter shippers who have nothing better to do than to be mean-spirited.

This situation is sad and is not something that should be used as a joke, as a way to demean a ficitonal pairing, etc.

118

(Anonymous) 2009-02-23 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
I cried also, you're not alone.

[identity profile] akushou.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
133. If you don't believe any anime show has emotional depth, you obviously haven't seen many. Not to mention degrading someone's maturity just because of the type of media they enjoy makes you kind of an immature bastard yourself.

144. Sorry, but the sex scenes just aren't that good, and if you don't like the rest of the game, then this isn't going to redeem it. Might as well stop now.

127

[identity profile] foofighter0234.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
127. I actually MET Gwen, and she was one of the sweetest people I've ever met in my life. Don't judge a book by its clothing, bb.

166

[identity profile] trinity-destler.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Still my OTP, too. The fandom is better than the actual show. :3

They aren't the same person, though, they're distinct and different. It's muddy what was actually intended, but I consider them individuals.

151

[identity profile] viedma.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's more of a case of Rorschach wanting something that even he can't articulate while Nite Owl remains oblivious, imo.

Re: 151

(Anonymous) 2009-02-23 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
See, I think that "all" Rorschach wants is friendship, and Dan realizes this rather than being oblivious ("It's like he's trying to make friends without knowing how"). I just don't see any "Rorschach is gay" subtext. Actually, I think he's a repressed heterosexual, which is one of many reasons women's bodies make him so uncomfortable. It's not having any sexual feelings for Dan that makes him comfortable enough to reach out.

But really people can read whatever into it and I don't see any problem with shipping non-canon pairings.

[identity profile] miribai.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
103. Agreed, I wanted lulz, but not this way. But damn you for outing the fandom like that, as if we need MORE reason for other people to hate us. :(

133. You haven't seen Grave of the Fireflies have you....no didn't think so.

[identity profile] caterfree10.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
103. THIS. I mean, I sort of thought of it myself, but didn't want to post it. Even then, couldn't it have been F-locked? Seriously, we get enough crap as it is, and this is NOT helping anything. *headdesk*

133. Or anything from Studio Ghibli while we're at it. *nod nod*

ILU so hard.

No, I have not seen the movie. The only thing I've seen that has Batman is Justice League, but I know the girls you talk about. I am unfortunate enough to be in the same social group. And they are deluded. And they do need to shut the fuck up.

So I thank you, you awesome schizophrenic person, you.

[identity profile] icky-t-bicky.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Wait...? Um...is this biologically possible?

Re: 103

[identity profile] pkbitchgirl.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, unfortunately.

The youngest mother on record gave birth when she was five.

Alfie was 12 when the baby was conceived and a guy in another forum I frequent said he was sexually active with his girlfriend when they were both eleven.

I'm not sure if I believe him, but then again I saw a TV programme about underage sex in Britain and one of the kids was a creepy eleven year old who said he was "gutted" because a girl "wouldn't let him do her up the arse"
I shuddered when I saw that because it sounded creepy and (shallow much) he was so fugly too boot (I thought 'ew, I wonder what type of girl is desperate enough to go for him?)

Unfortunately, in the UK once a teenage mother hits 16 she is entitled to full benefits and a council house to boot, so many teenage girls get pregnant because they know the government will supply them with a place of their own

117: I totally agree. I really hope that they have Phoenix re-take the bar exam in the next game. I didn't really like the new characters all that much, and thought that they fell flat. If you could play as Phoenix in just one of the cases in the next game, I'll be happy.

133: This again? Didn't we just do this a couple of weeks ago? Way to generalize a genre, troll.

Hard Candy

Two Hard Candy secrets? I approve. :)

[identity profile] melengro.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
133. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you haven't seen any of Shinkai's or Mashimo's work.

153

(Anonymous) 2009-02-23 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes, there's just this one person that comments with something that's just ... rude!!! Augh. As in, I drew a fancomic once, and a person replied that I should make a second part to it with MPREG and egg laying and shit like that, and gods, I'm sorry, but if you comment like that, I'm not going to reply to you.

I'm going to assume you are not one of these people though, so *hug.* It's happened to me before, and I feel like I've only got myself to blame because I probably said something to offend the author (though I certainly don't mean it!!!) when they don't reply to me.

And from what I can tell, some authors just find individual "thank you" replies repetitive and just assume it's understood they appreciate your review.

TLDR: I understand how you're feeling, and it's probably not your fault when someone doesn't reply to you, ;___; Please don't let it get to you.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
156. Half inclined to agree. I have most of JLU now, and it's something I avoided watching until les than a year ago, and it's still just such an amazingly perfect show. Heck, I caught a random episode with none of my favourite characters in it the other day, and was blown away by the writing. I wish I could sit my family and friends down and make 'em watch it, because really? It's better than most prime-time drama out there. The depth, humanity, continuity, character, design, conflict, resolution...it's all so amazing.

Admittedly, I'd love to see a JLI movie. Specifically that era. Booster Gold, Blue Beeter, Mr. Miracle, Guy Gardner, and J'onn... That would be the best thing ever.

[identity profile] simmy549.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
112: here here rofl
125: oh dear that is some godawful fanfiction
128: david bowie!!! =[
133: hey I had that phase too but I don't hate anyone who likes it. Jeez 150: hahah cool
152: he's even got the whole hufflepuff robes thing going on. And the sparkles, obviously.
171: oh boy, all the joker secrets are coming back. D=

133 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-02-23 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I didn't say anything about hatred, as people go. :/
I'm friends with quite a few anime fans; I just factor it into my judgement of their maturity, and in most cases, it's been accurate.

134, 138

[identity profile] arcadiaego.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
134: Lexx secret! You are so awesome. I actually rewatched the last episode last night and...yeah, I think I could be persuaded to ship it a bit. Post series maybe. :D

138: I think the message is 'go away from this movie thinking about difficult questions like whether it is possible for a lie of that magnitude to be good'.

Re: 138

(Anonymous) 2009-02-24 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I don't think a lot of the movie-going populace does this - wish it did - but if that was the point, the movie-makers should have been a little clearer with the message they wanted most people to get out of the movie.

133

(Anonymous) 2009-02-23 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
There are many different kinds of anime. There are shallow but entertaining shows, and there are some very deep and complex works of art. There are crappy shows too, but... the same is true for entertainment in any medium. I think that the person who can appreciate both shallow shows and complex shows for what they are is more mature than the genre basher.
