I made it through about 18 pages of the .pdf version (wasn't willing to put money in Stephanie Meyer's pocket and the waiting list for libraries is apparently a whole year, wat).

Like you, I gave up out of boredom.

101 - I'm so sorry. There's a reason why I try to hide my fandom life. How'd she find it?

128 - I'm a fan of the guy, but I've never been attracted to him either.

131 - Agreed times five billion million

132 - Dude.

133 - I don't watch any anime but like any medium, there's the shallow stuff and the deep stuff. That's like saying "My estimation of your maturity will drop if I find out you read books" because you once read Twilight or something.

154 - I've heard he's an absolute douche in real life. Don't mix up the characters the actor plays with the actor himself.

155 - Same.

156 - I'd love more movies too, but I think JLU was pretty much glorious and a standard they couldn't reach. (although, what works on a kid's tv show isn't exaclty what would work in a movie).

157 - Ask them to stop. If you think it's invading your privacy, I don't think it's cowardly to hide behind an anon account.

However, some of us do and are DYING for decently written fics! Please, for the love of all that is holy, tell us where you are finding G/D fics. Thank you!

138. Wait, it's true that it's a GOOD thing that the gov't lies to us...? I mean, I cast my ballot this year in an effort to lessen the vast amounts of lying the American government does, so I'm with the OP on this one. Movies should not be portraying government lying to the people "for their own good" as a GOOD thing (look, kids! Batman says government deception is a-okay! Yippee! Let's go look for bombs in Iraq!)

147. Isn't that that new one, Sunshine Cleaners? They clean up...I have no idea, the trailer was really confusing. D:

101. Aw. Meh, I told my friend about fandom!secrets, and was a bit nervous when I used her computer and saw that it was bookmarked...although most of mine would probably just make her roll her eyes.

102. Do you ever plan on mentioning that to him?

105. Now I really wish youtube didn't purge all the episodes. :/

118. I don't even watch that show, but that cats looks a lot like my cat who died three years ago :(

122. I've only been skimming through MSTs, and not even the smartest, funniest commentary can make it entertaining.

123. IPOSTINMYSLEEP!!!11 Seriously, I could swear this is something I would have posted, only I didn't! When I run out of secrets to post, I also lose interest in the community. I still check up on it and skim through to see if anything catches my eye, but when I've submitted something and am waiting for it to be posted, that's when I really pay attention to the posts, even if my secret doesn't appear.

128. I think you just happened to find a very un-flattering picture of him.

133. This again?

143. Awesomely made post!

151. Oh, I could go on forever about my thoughts on this pairing. I'll try to keep it short; I think it's an awesome pairing as long as it's not taken too far. I kinda imagine them together, but not like, TOGETHER...if that makes any sense.

153. I'm assuming you mean on fanfics. It seems like an impossible coincidence that whenever the author "forgets" to reply, it's always yours...is this a specific author? And do you suspect this person could have any sorta grudge against you? Not trying to invoke paranoia, just asking so I can try to think of some advice. Is this a person you normally talk to, and if so, do you think you could sort things out?

157. Is for family the type who'd freak out over that sorta thing? I mean, I'm sure my parents have seen some of the stuff I've made that I'd rather not have them see, and they haven't seemed to say much about it...

159. Maybe it's just me, but finding the bandom for a band you actually enjoy the music of...well, for me, it's lead to nothing but drama and wangst. But maybe that's just me...

n!f1. Now I want chocolate :(

does it /really/ matter? Just yanno, regardless of anything else, why give a crap what other people watch? At the end of the day, its entertainment. People aren't always going to specifically care about depth, they just want some downtime.

144

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Name of that game is Fate/Stay Night.

DISCLAIMER: That game, like most of Type-Moon fare, is WORDY. From what I've heard, it is so very far from your average "Hapless guy dates lots of girls" kind of game. For instance: Girl in the image is in fact a magical servant sent to protect guy, who is the unwitting participant of a magical war over an artefact that can do mighty and powerful things apparently, and a major part of the story is the boy's attitude of how he will never try to kill another human being, and how it over the course of the game should be adhered to, bent or utterly broken.

Expect tons of magical technobabble, historical injokes (since all the magical servants serving the participants of the battle are in fact ancient historical heroes who live on to this day because their tales have made their names live on and therefore because peopel sitll reminiscince and talk about them they exist outside of time and space), odd, odd ODD events, and basically a ton of story for eventual sex.

133. Taking a step back on a wider perspective-- you're basically saying all forms of animation and visual storytelling have no emotional depth. Despite, you know, things like comics came way before anything live action. I read your other replies here, you say there are "exceptions" to what you just said. If that's the case, then maybe you should word yourself a little better next time.

And I pray you're not one of those people who separates anime and manga from western animation and comics. Because that's just stupid.

133 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-02-22 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
First off, thanks for reading my other replies and conversations before responding--that makes this a lot easier.

Despite, you know, things like comics came way before anything live action. Unless you can say comics/cartoons predate plays like Oedipus Rex and Lysistrata, I'm going to say you're wrong.

And yeah, I'll definitely agree that my wording was off. Maybe "I hate anime fandom" or "I hate otakus" would've been better.

Culturally, I would separate anime/manga from comics/graphic novels/western cartoons, though many of those are idiotic and stereotypical, too. Still, I see more original or "edgy" storylines pursued using so-called "western" style of drawing/animation than I do in anime/manga-style.

And anyone who speaks out against it is a butt-hurt Kataanger. And honestly, I think Kataangers have a right to be upset. I mean Zutarians toss out that word "pedo" a little too easy and in reality they are the ones more interested in the sex stuff than the Kataangers are.

As a Kataanger it didn't piss me off that a comparison was made (although truthfully, Aang and Katara are far more mature than these too and last I checked neither one of the Brit kids could bend or took on a war). It irritated me that people were making a joke out of something that was not funny and actually is pretty sad.
