150. You're not alone. I did the same thing in Church, and I don't think either of us is going to hell for it. ^__^

You're not alone, is all I can say. Also, you're the first Internet person I've seen who shares my kissing squick.

Yeah, those secrets are dumb. It'd be like if I made a secret saying sexuals can't actually be that into this stuff.

I have to say, I find monosexuals claiming asexuals don't exist to be bizarre in the extreme. I mean, they already deny any sort of sexualoving connection to half the human race already, and they can't imagine what it might be like to feel that way about everyone? :-/

117. I don’t ship it, but I must say that Dan/Laurie felt really forced in the movie. :/

155. I don’t know, I just never used the term ‘comics’ for darker material. It kind of just became a habit. I think it’s because ‘comic’ denotes a more lighthearted nature.

165. I have secrets that would freak even the most tolerant of hippies out.

167. /facepalm

118. Wtf, people's standards must've gotten pretty high if they find her ugly.

124. I actually thought the Saula topped Rymon this year.

[identity profile] ayeayes.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
N!S1. Wow...I haven't seen the secret you used in this, must've missed it. Still...wow, I'm surprised the poster of that is even using LJ. :|

TITC. Aww. :) <--- I hope no one tries to shoot this face...

103. Don't worry! I'll admit I kindasorta guilt about that, but seriously, those "I liked it before it was cool!" snobs are just being stuck-up. I like Watchmen, I didn't know what it was before it was popular, I'm sure I could be called a fake fan or whatever, but I don't really care!

107. I'll admit, several years ago, I was pretty closed-minded about the whole asexuality thing, and I have to say, I'm completely ashamed of my attitude back then :/ Dang, I wish I could go back in time and punch my past-self....
Anyway, there are plenty of people who would understand. A lot more than you'd think. :)

113. :( Do you actually find this girl ugly, or do you just get mad at her because of her personality? (I still like Meg, hence the ":(" emote)

117. I've never felt so uneasy about shipping FICTIONAL characters (Uneasiness for me is usually reserved for RPS) until I got into Watchmen :/

140. :/ I dunno. I definatly find him more sympathetic. I mean, didn't the Joker even admit that he doesn't have a reason for attacking people? I can see why you'd make that comparison, but those two characters are not the same.

142. Exactly. The first two paragraphs, I mean.
I used to just roll my eyes at people who didn't like pairings because "OMG they're relationship is fine the way it is, why make it sexual when it's not?!?!?" but...those two made me understand that point of view.

I'm a female gone male on RO. Oddly enough, I decided to play as a male because I think their costumes look cooler and I figured people would finally stop hitting on me.

I was wrong. So very wrong.

The way I see it - it's not a bad thing. On MMOs you're playing a character and the point of a fantasy world is to be something you're not... so... if you want to be a male, that's okay in my book.

103.) You've already won points by reading the book. At least you read it, y'know? I only finished it in January, myself. xD

142.) If I read and understood that correctly, I agree. And I prefer the movie death scene to the comic one. I really do.

155.) Was the Dark Knight based on a comic over 200 or so pages long? I switch between calling Watchmen a book and a comic. Why? Because, in my opinion, it's both.

Re: 103, 142, 155

[identity profile] polysamachan.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
155. Well, yes. It was. It was inspired by several different comics, but the one that it (arguably) drew on most was The Long Halloween, which was well over 300 pages in its entirety. Just throwing that out there.

I personally just call them all comics. I think that comics require a different skill set than a book does. Not necessarily a better or worse skill set, and some authors can do both (I am looking right at you, Neil Gaiman), but definitely different. So I give them their due and applaud the skill set in which they've shown proficiency. But that's just me. I think the big debate over what to call them is kind of silly.

I know what you mean. But Charles/Pickles was one of the early pairings. Right behind Skwisgaar/Toki.

Maybe it's because they seem to be the oldest in that show. Who knows.

Re: #160

(Anonymous) 2009-03-16 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
And that's just another reason why that pairing makes no fucking sense.

103 - Why does it matter if you're a new fan or an old one? If you enjoy the series, then enjoy it. I hate the mentality of "new fans are bad fans". It's just bs.

140 - Lol, I don't think wanting to fuck Rorschach is on par with wanting to fuck Joker. But that's just me...

146 - Your secret makes me think that you feel all slash fans are misogynistic. That's seriously bullshit. I'm a gay male, and I like slash. I'm not a misogynist; the characters you posted in your secret are awesome and give me hope for female characters. But I still like slash. (PS: You forgot Starfire and Donna Troy, who are also really awesome.)

155 - I always think of it as comics. Seriously, why is that an issue? THAT'S WHAT IT IS.

165 - Word. I don't hide my fandom interests because...why? If someone doesn't like it, they can either ignore it or gtfo my friends list.

168 - I'm a Batman comics fan, and sometimes? The movie fans really annoy me. The constant I WANT TO SEXXXX UP THE JOKER secrets are obnoxious. The crazy shit people come up with because of TDK is obnoxious. But I don't really begrudge them. Some people actually read books that I've loved for years because of TDK, so how I can I be upset about that? Me? I saw the Watchmen movie after professing no interest in the books. And now the movie made me want to read the books. If that makes me a bad or annoying fan, well, so be it.

103. I finished reading it the day the movie came out, so I know how you feel XD
I wasn't particularly interested in the movie but I kept hearing good things about the comic book, so I read it out of curiosity. I never thought I would love it so much!

111. Unusual pairing, but nothing to be ashamed of!:)

135. LOL My first thought was "me neither"! But I can since I've watched Life on Mars.

157. OMG A GK secret :D I don't find this creepy.

103, 107, 108, 140, 146, 155

(Anonymous) 2009-03-16 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
103. There's no problem with that at all. I personally don't think it matters when you read the comic. I didn't read it until the day before I went to see it and both the movie and the comic blew my mind. I wouldn't call you a bad fan. Elitist neckbeards, maybe, but probably not most people.

107. Very nice secret, OP. I do get annoyed when people misunderstand something like that, like it's weird that one doesn't experience sexual attraction. Not everybody's excited to do it.

108. Oh God, THIS. I hate being a purist, but Englund IS Freddy. Remaking it with some other unknown actor would be awkward. Though the guy you suggested might work.

140. I don't think you're alone. While I'm not really attracted to Rorschach sexually or anything, I'm still fond of the character. He's not as dirty in the movie as he is in the comic though.

That, and JEH looks bizzarely hot with red hair and biceps, so suddenly becoming attracted to him isn't a surprise. His eyes are beautiful, too.

146. You go, girl! :) I'm a female DC fan as well, and while the company series tend to have a "women in refrigerator" history, the female characters are really interesting, beautiful, full of personality, and fun to read about. Babs/Oracle/Batgirl II is my personal favorite.

155. I can see why people call it a "book", since it's just one collected volume and not a series that been going on for decades like most American comics. Though sometimes there's a bit of an insecurity that comics are juvenile or unsophisticated, so that term "graphic novel" was coined for marketing purposes.

I'm not fond of the term, personally. I remember Neil Gaiman saying that when he was told that he wrote "graphic novels" rather than "comics", that he "felt like someone who'd been informed that she wasn't actually a hooker; that in fact she was a lady of the evening." Nice way of phrasing it.

146

(Anonymous) 2009-03-16 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You, go girl? For thinking you can't like slash and be a feminist? For implying that all slashers hate women? It's great she's discovered how kick ass Babs is and that hey female characters can be kick ass in general but she just traded one misconception for another really.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-16 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
161. Removing a "problem" person for reasons you think is right and just is one thing, cheering and congratulating each other for burning the witch is just a sign of assery.

103. Same for me. And I feel worse because I fangirl Rorschach, and I'm pretty sure hardcore fans would hate me for that. ):

104. OH GOD THAT COMIC IS SO SHITTY PFFTTT LOL. And is that Ty-Lee bashing I see? ): No, OP. NO.
But really, I'd say go for it. Do yo' thang, OP. I'm sure what anyone else writes will be 10000x more better than that comic.

109. Totally off-topic, but that movie reminds me of the time I was working at Blockbuster, and some lady brought it back to us saying "I DIDN'T KNOW IT HAD LESBIANS HOW ICKY!!!!11"

113. Dude, the Meg Abuse on that show is precisely why I can't watch it. It's just NOT funny anymore. The first time, a chuckle. The second time, maybe a smirk. The millionth time, I'M RAGING AT THE TV.

122. BRB LOLLING FOREVER

126. Sorry but. o_O I thought Chazz wasn't meant to be sexy, just a parody of those people who THINK they are sexy but they totally aren't...

155. I use all three. xDD I'm not really picky. Sometimes I'll say, "You need to read the comic." Or, "In the graphic novel it was different." Or, "Yeah but in the book they went into detail."
Personally, I don't really give a shit what people call it. I'm sorry, OP.
