107. I don't get asexuality, but I don't get a lot of things, and I know they (inc asexuality) exist. I still have an instinctive reaction to disbelieve quite a few people who claim to be asexual, especially when they're being wanky, in the same way I disbelieve someone who claims to have aspergers/asbergers. It's not good of me, and I'm trying to stop, so I'm sorry for it, and for making your life just a bit harder.

136. \o/

137. My eyes, my eyes. Is it so hard to make secrets in readable colors?

139. Well, aren't you ~*~special~*~ for playing horde.

146. All those characters are awesome, and I love them muchly, but news flash! You can be a feminist and like slash. Hell, you can argue that slash is a feminist activity (I don't buy slash specifically as feminist, but all porn!fic in general may be: women claiming control of their own sexual desires. But like all fic, slash can be v. problematic, but it's not anti-feminist, or anti-women.)

103. Hey, the whole fandom started because of the movie--I, for one, think it's awesome that more people are getting into the comic. Join the fandom! It's fun!
117. They had a hell of a lot of chemistry in the movie.
121. Leslie/Derringer is love.
130. ILU, music geek (even though I have to throw Clara in there, too)!
142. I love everything about Dan seeing Rorschach's death except the "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" The sentiment of it is great, though. (And I love heartbreaking, unrequited views of their relationship.)
146. I'd just like to toss my Renee Montoya love in here. (And you can slash m/m while still loving female characters!)
147. I did not know John Glover was on Heroes! Intriguing.
154. See 103--a lot of people think it's great when new people get into the fandom. Enjoy yourself!
155. Am I the only one who doesn't give a crap if any of those words are used?
166. Don't feel shallow--I've gotten into a ton of fandoms through fanworks before getting to the original. Nothing wrong with that.
Comments. Awwwww.

[identity profile] trillianastra.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
146... WOO! Renee Montoya!

147... well, he was only in the most recent episode. Ep title was "Shades of Gray". (Which is ironic, once you've seen it.)

103 - JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE A NEW FAN DOESN'T MEAN YOU AREN'T A TRUE FAN. SERIOUSLY YOU GUYS. And this is coming from someone who read Watchmen years ago.

146 - I love a lot of DC's superheroines, but I don't see how they should stop you from shipping. But, you know. Whataver.

155 - Because there's still a "childish" connotation with the word "comic," sadly.

162 - I didn't want her to end up with Spock, but I do think that she's really great. It took me awhile, though. She was wonderful in "Obsession."

107. Woo! Word. I'm for sexyteims in my shipping, but it's definitely not a prerequisite.

146. I thought we just discussed that s.ash =/= non-feminist. That wasn't your main point, but the last part made it sound that way. Have fun, whatever you're doing (and Wonder Woman rocks!).

150. It's what I do whenever I'm forced to go to church. You're not alone.

127 - Indeed!

143 - So would I!

146 - Um... you can be all of that and still slash, you know? Either way, kudos to you. I love all three of those characters, but DC often fucks over their female characters so beware. In fact, in recent year, DC has fucked over all of those particular characters, as well as Mary Marvel. *sigh*

167 - Light was wrong.

167. I love him to pieces. I think he's totally wrong, totally mad, and I hope I'd never do what he did with that kind of power. But as a protagonist he's fascinating. I kept wanting him to win, and win, and win, and it wasn't until he was defeated that I could breathe an "At last" kind of sigh.

116. Find something else, something less harmful, to replace RO with?

122. I just learned from the comments that this girl was totally brutalized and now I feel bad for laughing.

137. Better than yandere, amirite

139. You know that if you're a blelf, it doesn't count, right?

140. LOLOLOLOLOLOL I TOTALLY KNEW I'D SEE A MILLION OF THESE

146. Don't know what you mean by "one of thsoe fandom feminists," especially since loads of fandom feminists are all over slash (and constantly on about how much better it is than het).

163. That's kind of funny.

167. Wow! You sound 14! :D

168. I'm glad you understand and I wish more people would - it's not about elitism or animosity towards new fans. Also, it becomes so hard to find other people who are like you - it's okay to like the movie, but that's just not the kind of fan you're looking for all of the time, yeah?

171. Surprised this hasn't descended into "NO KEFKA IS BETTER" yet.

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
171. Oh crapcakes now that you mention it I passed up the moment to overhype my first FF-villain. I have failed. Failed so badly. BUT IT'S ALRIGHT I can still start up wank here rite?

Also 137. Well, in real life I would definitely prefer to meet someone who was an asshole because they couldn't bear the fact that someone may see them in a moment of adorable vulnerability to someone who is sweet on the outside but secretly wants to kill me, but in a fictional context I often find yanderes more interesting... I think it's just because I'm beginning to see so many cliche tsunderes, while I haven't had the opoortunity to get bored with yanderes yet.

144 - I had to watch the video after I saw this secret. The song wasn't as catchy as I'd hoped it be; I saw TS in CSI and liked her "You're Not Sorry" CSI remix, but this isn't on the same level as that. Maybe it's because YNS wasn't very country, but this had more of a country-feel to it? Nonetheless, TS needs to retake high school English if she thinks R&J was a love story-- it was a freakin' tragedy and no talking with dear ol' Daddy Capulet will make things okay for them. Plus, the dresses in the music video were more Pride and Prejudice and much less R&J....

153 - Who's "him?" I don't recognize... also, if he's a cool guy, let's not call him SMeyer. I call THE BIGGEST TWIT that because it sounds a bit like "Smear," and that's all I want to do to her: smear her face into the ground. A lot. >:(

146 Maybe I am missing someone, but I really fail to see how these are any more "empowered" than female characters in other fandoms. Apart from the skin tight leather, but if that passes for being "empowered" these days I wonder why you consider yourself no longer misogynistic.

113 - So, everytime there's a lot of secrets that I'm interested in seeing the responses to/responding to, I write them down with clues so I can remember them.

You just got the clue word "jerkass".

146: Hoo boy. If you're reading the replies, you're getting an overload of "slash fans can still be feminists!" Which I really could have told you was what people would focus on.

Not that it isn't true. But it's also true that for some, higher awareness means a change in interests. I'm choosing to think that's what you meant, because assuming the worst is just so tiring.

Besides, if that's what you meant, that'd make two of us. (Really, I just prefer women in lead roles in fic.)

167: You know those clue words I mentioned earlier? You just got "...psycho".

168: Years of trying to get people to read it, and now I have a waiting list of people who want to borrow my copy.

103. I think it's kinda silly to feel guilty about jumping on the bandwagon. I'm just glad the movie is introducing such an awesome book to so many new people. Doesn't mean you're any less of a fan. :)

107. Thank you for this!

140. haha, I keep seeing people say how the movie suddenly made them attracted to Rorschach. I myself had a strange crush on him throughout the book long before the movie came out. I think I still crush harder on book!Rorschach, which....yeah idk. :|

171. Sephiroth is crazy awesome. :D

103. 107. 116. 131. 136. 139. 154. 155. 158. 165. 166. not secret 5. not secret 6.

[identity profile] kinosino.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
103. I look at it this way: the thing came out before I was born. Obviously I wasn't going to be going out and reading this when I was an eight-year-old or something. And now that I have the maturity to read and comprehend it, is it really so bad that I heard about it from friends who were excited about the upcoming movie? Gotta hear about shit somewhere.

107. People need to be exposed to it to know it exists. If people get all "lol pizzaface virgin", they are ignorant jackasses who are not worth associating with. But even in a crowd of morons, you're probably going to educate at least one person.

116. Move to Korea. No one will care. /troll, apologies.

131. I have nothing of value to say, but man I can't stand Phil Collins.

136. That is an adorable outfit. Cosplay it, even if no one knows who you are.

139. Well, I play with my husband, but that doesn't really make us special. And I still don't see the point of this faction rivalry - you can have characters of both factions. Really. It's okay. I have my Horde on one server and Alliance on another. The universe has not exploded. (Yet.) Ah well, maybe I'm just doin' it wrong.

154. There's no logical reason to feel that way, OP. I, for example, was born in 1988, in the United States. Therefore, I pretty much had no chance to watch Doctor Who for most of my life barring cash moneys for expensive DVDs or superspeedy internet downloads. Fortunately, I lived in range of a PBS that had the show, but some people aren't so lucky. People gotta get into fandoms somehow and somewhen.

155. Because both "book" and "novel" are abbreviated forms of "comic book" and "graphic novel", I assumed. ("Book" is also one letter shorter than "comic".) But I can't really say that everyone is as motivated by utter laziness as I am.

158. Awesome.

165. Hell yes (and shocked this didn't get shunted off to not!secrets).

166. Then play it! It'll probably only help (or you'll end up with a new favorite character instead, Sorrow <<).

n!s5. SOURCE? I mean, not that I'm normally into him or anything, but 'tis nice art (even if his socks are wrong).

n!s6. THIS. I realize some people are incapable of writing a sentence that can be read aloud in under a minute (here's to you, Douglas Adams), but some of these people can do it with style and for a damn purpose other than the polar opposite of a double-spaced redundantly-worded essay. That meme got to the point where if I hit "expand" and saw a fucking paragraph, I didn't even bother to do more than skim it just enough to confirm that yeah, it sucked.

Re: 160

Crack's not for everybody. In fact, it's not for alot of people. The show is already crack -- what's the point in creating more, especially when there are pairings that require far less of an effort to justify.

Besides, even with crack, there has to be some appeal. I don't even see any of that. Frankly, C/P has as much appeal to me as Seth/Rockzo (the pair!disgust equivalent of 2 Girls 1 Cup)

My bf got me into WoW and I play almost exclusively with him, but SO DO A LOT OF PEOPLE! For a while I was in a guild with almost all married or engaged people, before some of us had more babies and disbanded. I think you may be amazed to know that there are a lot of WoW couples, and ones who play horde. I don't believe in the stereotype that WoW gamers are all lonely nerds.
