109. A profound TV show. >3

116. Ohsnap. I don't know what to make of this. I loved both movies. ><
And why does everyone cover up as much as possible when they're showing Push? Are people like... afraid of it or something? o_O

144. I'd read and see it if Paul Bettany was in it. >3

145. AHH--DOLLS. I love dolls. I'm such a freak, but porcelain, glass, or stuffed--I'll love 'em. ♥

156. YAY, SETH GREEN. <33

n!s 2. Mhm, thank you. I couldn't agree more. =/

(Anonymous) 2009-03-22 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that other secret was me too. And yes, I'm a little bit ashamed for loving it cuz it really wasn't all that great, good but not great (still love it though), and for shipping Nick/Cassie.

You are not alone. Just don't write RPS on the office computers during your lunch break.

Although by the sounds of it, your bosses would probably see the funny side of it. But no, don't even try.

I don't know, I don't find the Terminator quite on par there with the hotness of the Alien and the Predator...

111. THIS. I just need to see more of Rorschach acting like a nut. xD

125. WATCH LAKEVIEW TERRACE.

141. I once read porn of that once. It was probably one of the most disturbing things I've ever read. I... yeah... bad memories. *shudder*

i have never read porn of it. i'm too afraid of what i'll find.

I felt the exact same way. I stared at his lips all the fucking time. They are the most beautiful lips in Hollywood :X

(must be cause they remind me of my boyfriends. Mmm.)

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
101) Give it a try. My first reaction to slash was also a kind of unpleasant embarrassment because it turned me on, but I felt like it shouldn't. But I got over it. Now I'm just circumspect about who I'm with when I talk about it, the way I am when talking about my turn ons in general.

105) You can't make any of these assumptions you are making and reasonably expect them to be true. The only reason why you make them is because you feel a need to demonize anyone who doesn't share your preferences, and that's some serious insecurity. But really, fandom is much more fun if you don't expect the world love exactly the things you do. It takes a ton of pressure off of you to justify what you like to others when you fall in love with an unpopular character.

124) You know, sometimes I think people really think all of us on the interenets live in their computer and everything we write is directed at them personally. How else to explain those self-absorbed idiots like the one who responded to you there.

145) It's really a preference thing. Personally, a doll evokes no emotions in me beyond a vaguely unsettled one if it's too realistic. It's a thing, like a toaster only without any function. I can vaguely appreciate the amount of effort done to make one, but if I owned one I wouldn't have the first idea what to do with it. DVDs and Manga tell me exciting stories that get my heart racing and my imagination going. Obviously, you must get something out of a doll that makes it worth the $200, but I've given up trying to figure out what that is.

158) Oh yeah. Having a squick doesn't mean they have the moral high ground, and only the most retarded can't tell the difference between what we think is RL healthy and acceptable and what we enjoy in fiction. Those who can't make that distinction should stick to watching Dora.

That's not it at all. I'm referring to the "haters" who just hate on him constantly. It is ridiculous. I don't mind someone simply disliking him, but to bring it up all the time and treat him like Suikoden's punching bag is idiotic.

106. What do you mean, the way they're formatted?

107. Well, uh, they did get together. And were bad for each other. And it's generally agreed that their romance wasn't very well-done, so no one's going to lynch you for not actually liking the relationship much. And you not liking the relationship doesn't change the fact that they did get together and Luke and Leia were born, so... basically, I am confused about the point of this secret.

108. I got my start on RPing there, too. It was fun at the time, but looking back I realize that the quality was terrible. Unfortunately, to have better quality RP you need some form of quality control, and if you have that, then it's no longer "easy to pick up."

111. If it were, I suspect Alan Moore would kill everyone involved.

144. The Good Omens movie will probably never be made, period, at the rate it's going.

145. To be fair, you're comparing the amount one spends on a single doll to the amount one spends on an entire collection of anime DVDs. (Though if you only ever buy one doll, and they keep on buying DVDs, and they still think you're a freak for spending that much on it... well, then they've got problems.)

Maybe you should have a little sympathy for your boyfriend. It's a difficult position to be in, to be dating someone of the opposite sex and then realize that you're gay. Anyway, if he's making secrets about it he's obviously being honest with himself -- just not with you.

Re: 127

(Anonymous) 2009-03-22 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
...which makes him a lying asshole. It's not a difficult position to be in; it's wanting to maintain a front.

My heart goes out to the being-strung-along girlfriend. But better that she find out now, by any means, rather than wake up at 60 and realize she's Mrs. Larry Craig.

106: A Disagreement

(Anonymous) 2009-03-22 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
One of the things I dislike about New Who is the short episode length - it means everyone has to dash through the story. There's no mystery, no build-up, no character development (except the leads). No time to catch your breath, it's wham-bam-thank-you-space-man-VROOP-VROOP-VROOP and he's gone!

This is especially irksome when it's an interesting premise, a good location, and I realise we're only going to be here forty minutes or so.

I am dreading the inevitable 'remakes' of classic episodes thanks to the magic hand of time travel.

[identity profile] ember-reignited.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
126. Oh geeze, her waistline still makes me sort of uncomfortable. At least she seems to have some meat on her arms and legs now. That's good to see; she was so healthy and vibrant in DW, and then all of a sudden I started seeing all these pictures of her looking like a twig.

129. ... I really don't see how that could possibly end well.

134. Don't worry about it. I think the number of people whose lives wouldn't be significantly improved by having an Uncle Iroh is probably vanishingly small.

158. Uh-huh. Because, as we all know, stories have absolutely no power to shape the way people view the world.

129

[identity profile] ericaleev.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
It wouldn't end well at all.

Unless this is the 1950's comics then everyone will just end up shaking hands and having a malt or something. D:

116. Here comes the wank... or it's been going on, but I've been gone.
Probably a troll. Probably not--it's possible to like Push more than Watchmen. I like them both equally, believe it or not.

125. Oooh, watch Angels in America. You get all these characters, and much Patrick Wilson's mouth. <33

145. Oooh, dolls. They're that little kid in me that keep me sane. That's why I love them too, but everyone thinks I'm crazy... because pocelain dolls look possessed or some stupid shit. *rolls eyes*

132. What do you think you are missing? Come on, there's anonimity for a reason!

148. Another good reason to give a try to the GN then, it's not as gory. Save for the ending. On the other hand, I might just come out and say the whole fingersucking during the Jon!orgy was hot as hell. Oh, Jon. I'm sure that if only you cared to warn Laurie instead of going for the surprise effect... this would have turned into a porn movie/comic and we wouldn't be here to discuss it. Or would we? *wiggles eyebrows*

149. Well, perhaps you just ship based on the chemistry between characters and don't fixate on a sexual orientation or another. But, define squick?

154. lolwhut? I don't even know the fandom that is from, but disliking one pairing doesn't mean disliking the whole sexual orientation, duh. I hope you're a troll.

Too big 1 -Weeeeell, perhaps you're not the only underage person to post there, you know. Anyway aff.net = not really the place I'd go looking for quality.

I actually think they're not good for each other.

O RLY??

IRL, there's this person who I like a whole lot, who also happens to be the product of a rape. Every day I am grateful for this person's existence; but this doesn't mean I think the circumstances from which they arose weren't horrifying.

Good things sometimes come from bad things. Liking Luke and Leia doesn't mean you have to ship a destructive, abusive relationship.

Re: 145

(Anonymous) 2009-03-22 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
I think the secret is saying "I don't understand the people who say spending a couple hundred dollars on a doll is a waste of money, but who spend thousands of dollars on their anime and manga collection." It's not a waste of money for either; one shouldn't be mocking the other.

145

(Anonymous) 2009-03-22 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Anime DVD collectors are the same as any other collectors, you know. Did it ever occur to you that maybe those collectors you ridicule actually have the money to spend on those dvds without sacrificing the much important necessities?

153. THIS. I'm a fairly new comic book fan so I haven't read a lot of Superman yet and I wasn't planning to anytime soon. That video made me cry though and I now love him so hard. ;-;

or...that's a bad idea actually.

158

(Anonymous) 2009-03-22 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
158. Obviously many people do care, or the conversations wouldn't be happening.

I personally hate this "it's just fiction" argument to silence debate. Yes, it can get wanking and repetative, but the stories we ingest matter. We live our whole lives in a web of stories. Analysing them and being aware of their impact is not pointless. Fiction is important. Just because the characters aren't real doesn't mean the messages aren't either.

OP (soooo late)

(Anonymous) 2009-04-12 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
If you want to analyze have fun with that, I don't mind. I just really wish fandom was less wanky in general. And I honestly believe that the only people who really care about the squicks are the people who have them, so if they could stop bitching at everyone who doesn't it would be really nice.

109 I firmly believe that I will never see another television show that amazing ever again in my life. Battlestar Galactica deeply and personally affected me in ways that no other television series ever could. I've been depressed all day at the realization that the series has ended.

127 Snarky comment from [livejournal.com profile] technophile aside, that is really sad. I'd be devastated in that position.

136 Well, you can't expect them to stop talking to you about it if you won't tell them you're not into it anymore. (Although, how someone could not be into Venture Brothers baffles me, personally.)

145 Although it totally depends on someone's personal tastes as to which hobbies are worthwhile, I don't understand why you can't see why someone would want to collect anime dvds. How is that any different than owning books? Not to mention that I love animation and I love to rewatch my favorite sequences over and over again (this is just reminding me of how depressed I am that Macross: Do You Remember Love? will never get a dvd release in the States, augh). For me, I wouldn't get as much pleasure out of making clothes for or taking pictures of an inanimate object.

148 Yeah, the gore was one of the things I didn't like about the movie. The comic is nowhere near that gorey (it's still violent, but for example, Dr. Manhattan doesn't make people explode, they just turn into particles or whatever).

151 He didn't deserve to die and that still really pisses me off. And no amount of justification from fans will change that for me.

145

[identity profile] georgeslymaniv.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Anime and manga tend to be imports and rather expensive. People who buy books and regular don't spend as much. I think people should buy whatever they want, though I do think it is very expensive for a hobby.
