There's a fandom! It's small, but we're here, and we're really very friendly. Also there's a very large fandom in Russian, apparently, I don't know.

I love Cordelia, though, and I totally sympathize with the WWCD. You have good taste in role models.

130. I have an agree/disagree perspective. Men matter, even in slash, because no one deserves to have their opinion dismissed as "we're not talking to/about you".

On the other hand, I agree with the argument that slash is a depiction of sexual fantasy and objectification shouldn't be considered a major problem. Objectification, like preferences, is in the eye of the reader and writer. The writer might strive to create a well-balanced, realistic relationship with a goal of respecting the characters and what the symbolize... and somewhere a reader is still going to objectify it. Similarly, an author might write 100% smut with no respect for the characters, and a reader might find that respect in there unintentionally. Any one of these people might realize that it's not the same way in real life. They might not. It's very much on an individual basis.

When we fantasize, it's not required to fantasize about realistic situations, or even situations we want to be realistic. The characters and situations in our heads are not men, or women—they're often idealized versions of that, because sexual fantasy is about the person fantasizing. It's about what the viewer wants, with the focus on that rather than anything else and only enough of a nod to reality to keep the viewer in the fantasy. Porn of any type reflects that by focusing on what the viewer/reader wants to be real, rather than what is real. The problem of objectification isn't a problem in sexual fantasy—it's a problem when it extends to the real world, and because of the reader/writer interpretation issue, altering our fantasies to fit some criteria won't work. When you tell someone that their fantasy is inherently wrong/bad/unwelcome/immoral, they close their ears and become defensive, which perpetuates the problem because any real-life objectification is going be ignored. The same thing happens in most other media, which is another form of fantasy in a lot of ways.

BUT (big but!), if something is offensive, anyone has a right to sing out about it. We have as little right to tell people not to be offended by X as they do to tell us not to fantasize about X. There isn't a rating system for minority precedence, and we all have trigger-offenses that might be someone else's fantasy. (I think this is where the problem comes in, because Person A's right to be offended often clashes with Person B's right to enjoy their fantasy. I digress!)

TL;DR We need to be consciously working on that problem, directly through conversation and education. Combating oppression of any type by going after the a straw man of the problem (objectifying people in media/fantasy) rather than the actual problem (objectifying people in reality) solves nothing. But that doesn't mean people can't complain about it.

I'm not sure I just made any sense at all. ._.;

102. I think he's adorable :(
...and yet at the same time, I can see why people would think he's fugly. But that's true for like 90% of the guys I deem as being 'pretty' due to my weird taste.

106. I totally shipped him with the muscley chick that he arm-wrestled with in the bodybuilding episode.

Maybe there's something about him that invites us to 'ship him with his subjects. You could be onto something. ;)

119 - I miss her too! Hated her guts at first, and then just as I grew to love her, they killed her off. Rubbish.

101- I'm irrationally afraid of zombie movies. Other horror and monster movies doesn't bother me nearly as much.

I could hardly watch Shaun of the Dead, and that's supposed to be a comedy.

Sorry, can't stand either of them--both are 2D Mary Sues.

At least Jenny's char is salvagable with a good writer and plot in a future episode. River's is a dead end and she's about as tolerable as she's going to get--and she isn't.

so, when i saw that picture i had to rack my brain to remember when it was from. holy jesus, thats a beautiful picture.

i was a fan of all of the characters (except dan xD) in the watchmen novel, i loved them all including rorshach equally the same, but when i saw the movie, rorschach became my favorite because the movie performance was literally just beautiful.

i'm with you.
its not an "i'd hit it" deal, theres just something beautiful about him.

127- I never really hated him either.

129- THIS. Never did get his appeal.

132- Yes, we do need more.

134- I'm super excited. :'D
