History inaccuracies in a historical au that I know for a fact is incorrect. Not talking minor stuff, but things that just wouldn't be possible in the timeframe it's set in. Just takes me straight out of a fic. :(

I wished more ppl would do some semblance of research. If the characters talk like they came out of 2024, you're prob doing it wrong.

First person. Can't stand reading in that POV for fic.

Humiliation. Nothing worse than reading a great BDSM fic and being jump scared by that.

Wildly OOC stuff. If the characters are completely unrecognizable, I'm just not interested.

First/second person. Just not my thing.

Weird nicknames and modern slang in Tolkien-verse fics.

Humiliation as kink. Torture/noncon as kink. I like fics with those things as character-studies or hurt/comfort. Like, I read in fandoms where characters have been canonically tortured. But it isn't a sexual kink for me. It is a completely separate genre, and I'm just not interested in fics where the line is blurred too much. Again not my thing.

Extreme OOC, I expect a little when it comes to fic because I think we're all guilty of adding a bit on to our faves in some way, but if the only thing they share with the canon characters is their names then I'm out so fast.

Most OC/character or self-insert stuff, people can write what they want and I fully support that, but I don't want to read it, lol.

-Adult canon character has a long-lost kid. Surprise! It's a self-insert OC.
-Vilifying a female character as an abusive bitch, so the male blorbo who canonically dated/married her can be reduced to a quivering puddle of trauma and then healed by sweet, sweet slash.
-Someone goes into heat (This one's usually on me for not reading the tags thoroughly. Usually.)

Bad formatting with no line breaks.

Like, have you ever read any other fic? Or a...book?

If someone's too lazy to go in and fix this, I'm not reading the fic.

1) Bad characterization/OOCness when the story isn't a parody.
2) Events that are wildly inconsistent with canon, stated as fact, and the fic isn't marked AU or something canon divergent.
3) Atrocious spelling and grammar. (And I have low standards. You have to REALLY suck at this.)
4) A putrid author's note used as an excuse to rant about something unrelated and spoiling whatever the fic might have promised.

Reader insert--I try not to even click them at all but sometimes I miss it among a wall of tags.
First person POV because so often they get the character's voice wrong.
Blatant OOC-ness.
Stupid nicknames.

I submitted a secret about this recently, but easily knowable facts about our world. An American HS in Great Britain, a waiter who's starving while he waits for his paycheck to clear (as if cash tips were gathered up and kept from him for two weeks?), messing up the geography/weather of a region, that kind of thing kicks me out.

A newly discovered one is Therapy Speak from the mouths of DEEPLY un-therapy'd characters. If therapy even exists in this world he hasn't had it, and he would not fucking say that!

What is everyone doing this weekend?

It is going to be raining all weekend, so I am looking forward to staying in. Going to finish the last arm for my crochet bear. Then my sister, BIL, and I will having some drinks (or smokes) and playing Phasmophobia and Lethal Company. We are terrible at both but practice makes perfect.

I’m going to meet my parents in the city. Looking forward to some good Chinese food and hopefully interesting art exhibits.

Just about to leave for my massage therapy appointment, so I'll be recovering from that over the weekend. I've been meaning to start Yuri on Ice, so maybe I'll finally get to that while I'm stuck in bed.

I’m making a quilt for the first time ever for my dad’s 85th birthday next week. I’m making it on my embroidery machine so it isn’t quite the “holy shit are you crazy?!!!?” scenario it sounds like, but it is going to be intense.

Probably will work a couple of hours, meh. The only good thing about it is possible overtime. After that, probably house chores and/or grocery shopping, and maybe a little gaming. Maybe I'll be brave enough to join a Valheim group this time.

Our fire alarms are dying. They were supposed to last 10 years. One was beeping insessently in the evening. We finally figured out which one and got it turned off and thrown out (they are not the battery kind). Now another one is beeping. I have a migraine. I want to throw something at the wall. I can't figure out which one. It is 6AM on 4 hours sleep and I don't trust myself on a ladder without mom being awake. Argh.
