Trans character, only because in my fandom that means its just an excuse to write PiV sex and I am not here for vaginas.

I hate tags that have no actual reference in the fic. Like this one author likes to tag #characterA is autistic, but then go on to say it has no bearing in the fic but know that they (author) headcanon it.

Saaaame. I block the trans character tag because not only is it always pre- or never-op but the sex is penetrative and the transmale character is always on bottom. It's just boring at this point so I don't even bother to look at them. There's been such an influx of vaginal sex in my m/m fandoms.

I also block "vaginal sex" which I never thought I'd HAVE to block in m/m.

Same. I'm not trans, and I read slash and het so I don't mind PIV scenes, but...IDK, I'll read a gender/sex swap thing, but I'm with you in general for trans male characters. I'm not sure why it gives me the ick a bit, but I guess I expect m/m sex options in slash whether the characters are trans or cis.

That's it exactly: The fact that all of them seem to follow this trend of putting the afab character on bottom. I personally have yet to run into a fic that doesn't, which just gives me a creeping suspicion that the authors aren't actually m/m writers. I don't have anything to back that up, but it's a trend that I hate. If the author wants vaginal sex, why are they in M/M? Why can't the trans man top? I am suspicious.

Because a vagina is male if it belongs to a trans man, and PIV sex is m/m if both characters are men.

I appreciate this comment more than most of the others in this discussion, because it's honest. I'd rather someone just say what they think than pretend to care about trans people being written "incorrectly" because the only way to make a trans man not actually a woman in your fic is to write him topping with a strap-on (until someone does that, and then suddenly they're "gender essentialist! so just because this character likes to top, they must be a man?! are you saying women can't top?!")

The thing that you don't get is that no, writing a trans man get dicked down in his vagina doesn't make the character less of a man but if 95 % of all trans smut is PIV with the trans dude getting dicked down in his vagina it is kinda iffy and fetishy. Same when only the girly guys get the trans treatment in fandom. And just like very obvious yaoi tropes where the bottom is ALWAYS portrayed as much moe effeminate are kinda iffy and fetishy.

Well, at least you just came out and said it, unlike the anon I've been arguing with. It's very obvious they feel the same way.

You'll probably not be surprised to know that I find it cissexist. A trans man is still a man even if he has a vagina; a trans woman is still a woman even if she has a dick. Their organs or lack thereof don't make them not their gender, anymore than a cis woman having a hysterectomy makes her no longer a woman.

A trans man may still be a man even with a vagina but that doesn't magically turn the vagina into a male sex organ. Nor is a dick a ~girldick~ or a female genital just because it belongs to a trans woman. the trans woman is still a woman but her dick still isn't a female sex organ. And a vagina doesn't cease to exist just because a woman had a hysterectomy. It's not about the genitals changing the gender of a person, it's about how the gender identity of a person doesn't change the biological facts about their genitalia.

Frankly blocking vaginal sex and similar tags is a blessing. I am not really interested in smut in f/m pairings. And it weeds a lot of weird fetish trans fics

The amount of variations of trans and vagina related tags I've blocked so far... I just wish people would stick to a few established tags instead of making new ones up all the time (or not tag it at all), not everyone wants to read their PIV fetish fic when searching for gay stuff. (And those who want to read trans fetish fic can find it more easily too.)

I bristle a LOT at the idea that PIV is in any way incompatible with 'gay stuff'. Like, plenty of trans guys don't enjoy it, but plenty do! In real life!

I certainly agree with you on wanting things tagged accurately and with a relatively small tag set rather than a million variations, for this and so many things, but boy, the way people talk about trans fic sometimes... Like you don't have to like it! I would never suggest you read a thing you know you don't like, just... like, not everyone who likes it has a 'fetish', some guys just have vaginas and want to write and read about using those vaginas for gay sex.

It is in huge parts fetish fic though. Just... it is. Just like a lot of cis gay or het smut is fetish fic. It's not a judgement, it's a fact. And guess what, trans guys can have a fetish for PIV sex as well. A lot of smut is fetish material, period.

THIS, it's not a bad thing. A ton of trans guy fic authors and readers have a kink for PIV because of the vulnerability and enjoy playing that up in the character dynamics and making it a big focus of the story. This is not bad, it's just understandably something that other people find too dysphoric or just plain not appealing.

Yup! I would say most smutty fic is, at its heart, fetish fic.

And as one of the anons up there that does not want to read vaginal fic, I am not saying people shouldn't write it and enjoy it. Just tag your shit appropriately.

NAYRT and I only got into an m/m OTP after decades in het-focused fandoms, and reframing the relative volume of trans dudes having vaginal sex as a kink thing that trans dudes and just fic writers in general are into makes sense.

Because I couldn't figure out why so few fics that made one or both cis characters trans guys involved anal or toys or anything compared to "cis dude fucks trans dude in his vagina."

Which, well, most omegaverse also either gives male omegas vaginas or upgrades their assholes to do double duty as a vagina as well as a butthole.

I don't mind reading any of it, none of it's triggering for me or squicky but it's kind of funny. Like "vaginas are so awesome all my favorite characters should have them! You get a vagina, and you get a vagina, and you get a vagina!"

I can count the number of fics I've read where a trans man has anal sex or uses toys or a strap on or their hand to penetrate their partner on one hand.

Eh, whatever. I don't think any of it makes the writers or readers sexist or transphobic by default.
