I don’t understand conservatives who love Trek and thinks ir supports rheir views. Trek has always been left, socialist, and "woke." Trek has always pushed the boundaries of its time.

They care more for the aesthetic of Trek, take the stories to face value, and never interrogate futher in the meanings of the story.

I also find that bewildering--the same way it confuses me that conservatives can listen to RATM and think it is in any way speaking to their values. But I think this is in the same category as conservative staffers in DC complaining that liberals in the dating scene won't give them a chance. That seems like a self-explanatory incompatibility of views, but evidently not to the conservative mind.

Things that became normal in their childhood stick as "normal". Then their brains set.

It's something for progressive people to look out for as we age.

Especially Star Trek: The Next Generation. From what I recall, the characters live in what's basically a socialist society where most of humanity's needs are met. Heck, I don't even think there was money in that show. Characters openly express confusion at the prospect of things like having to pay for medical care in the past.

Granted, people can get entertainment value out of media that displays things they don't approve of in real life. I love Transformers, even though I am largely anti-war in real life (Part of it may be that many wars in real life aren't really fought to prevent tyrants from gaining a foothold and protect innocents) But the idea that Trek is somehow catered to them specifically, and that including things like gay relationships is diverging from its legacy of inclusion is odd.

They do this with Tolkien's works too. But of course, they would only take the most surface level with blinders on read of "fighting evil" and find ways to see themselves as the heroes.

But with Star Trek especially, I don't get how conservatives can convince themselves that Star Trek is agreeable to conservatism.

I understand what you mean, because I love cats as well, but it doesn't go beyond their appearance. The people look like mice and cats and pigs, but they're very much people, if you ever do want to give it a try.

The Roddenberry Box was a good thing, actually, because it challenged writers to be able to work out their story in the first place. A lot of Trek storylines today just seem unfinished even as they filmed.

I still consider George in the Famous Five to be an inexpertly-written transman, living in an era where being trans was even less well understood than even today. The way recent adaptations have gone out of their way to try and erase that aspect of his character is pretty disgusting, although far from unexpected give exactly which particular influential and rich Terf has been outspoken on admiring the character whilst completely failing to interrogate their own gender issues.

Part of me is overjoyed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons got a big update recently. It has some maaaaaajor quality-of-life updates, especially with regard to crafting. It's MUCH less annoying to craft things now.

However, another part of me wishes that instead of creating a big update for ACNH, they had instead moved on to work on the next installment of the game. As much as I love ACNH and still play it frequently to this day, I am kind of ready for the next one. Plus, my island is pretty well established (I would NEVER delete it and restart!!!) so the crafting improvements don't benefit me as much, at this point.

But you know what, it is what it is, and I'll just enjoy my comfort game being a little more fun/having a little less annoyance, and let the next game come when it's time. :)
