Tumblr isn't meant to work like LJ or even Twitter - it's not built around having conversations. It's like a permanent picspam thread - reaction gifs, artist dumps, advice-dog-style memes. It's fun, but not really comparable to more discussion-oriented sites.

I watched the TV anime and the lack of any sort of bonding between the pilots, the long segment of planes flying through the sky, and the cheesy love story with the wallflower, off screen female character turned me off. It's also an older anime (I could be wrong about that, just judging by the style,) and relatively obscure, that could contribute to the lack of fandom.

I do think it's a bit too early to say, honestly. He's shown up in one episode, for maybe twenty minutes. We have no idea what his motive is, beyond boredom, or what any of his future plans are.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he was some sort of bluff. There were, after all, two James Moriartys and a third (probably also James, going by ACD's track record for such things) Moriarty running around. Gatiss and Moffat seem like the sort to exploit that in some way.

Then they can become one of those bitchy creators who forbid the fans from making fanart and fanfiction.

I remember when Anne McCaffrey was like that and everyone really annoyed with the rules. Then she liftd the ban and let people play as they will. Now the fans love her.

If you're gonna be that possessive over your creation, don't bother writing it down. Just keep it in your head where no one can touch it.

They haven't really touched on Amy in a real way. We've been getting glimpses of her, but not nearly as deeply as we did with most of the other companions. I still like her, but I see what you mean.

It doesn't matter whether anyone writes one drabble's worth of fanfic about your work, OP. As soon as someone other than you reads a single chapter out of your manuscript - and dozens of people will, your agent, your copy editor, your story editor, your typesetter, etc. - then your characters will be in someone else's head doing things that you never imagined them doing. You see, literary characters don't exist on the page; they exist in the imagination of the reader. And once they're there, they're made up of that dirty, filthy reader's thoughts and emotions and impulses, not yours. You no longer have any control over what they do and say once they're there; all you get is that one shot, on the page, to get as much of your concept of them across as you can.

After that, it's like an adult child leaving home - you just trust that you brought them up right and hope for the best, because there's no telling what they'll run into in a dozen other brains. And, like adult offspring, if you think they're not going to fuck out there, then you need to adjust your expectations.
