I know a girl who fits this description exactly. Either you're on my flist, or you're DEFINITELY not alone.

How can people tell you that you're not asexual because of your fantasies

when your being asexual is a secret?

I wish someone educated in these matters would just register the domain name 'mydefinitionisthis.org' and list all the different words for gender, sexuality, race etc so everyone can refer to one place without argument.

But then I remember lol academics not wanting to argue.

Believe me, anon. People who have lots of sex can write terrible porn. Just because you have sex doesn't mean you'll be good at it or know what turns people on.

I actually find it really hard to write porn about things I've already done IRL. IDK why that is but it's why I write strictly slash. Reading het/writing het just doesn't appeal to me/I can't do it well. For me, it's the fact that I've never done it that makes it easier to let my imagination go crazy.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-13 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to ask- what does it make you when any sexual fantasy you ever have is never of you but of your favorite characters?

Well, I'm far from a romantic, but apparently people like my fluff. /shrugs
Some people just happen to be better at "putting themselves in character's shoes" than others are, even if they've never experienced the event before. (Sorry if it's hard to get, I can't word it well right now.)

For your last part, don't worry so much of what other people say, I mean, they're not you so they can't tell you what you are or not as far as sexuality is concerned.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-13 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi, are you me? No? Well, then you're definitely not alone. *hugs*

[identity profile] la-petite-singe.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
But...doesn't the fact that you have fantasies mean you have some kind of sexual feelings/desire? I'm not trying to say ASEXUALITY ISN'T REAL BAWWW or something, because it totally is and you very well may be, I don't know, but...ach, I just feel like, too often, people say they're asexual because they're reached a certain age/stage of their life when they're "supposed" to be having sex and/or falling in love, according to society, and when they don't, they just go "well, I guess I'm asexual then" before giving themselves a chance to explore their feelings over time...IDK. Just sayin', "not yet/currently ready and/or interested in sex or romance" does not necessarily always = asexual.

*prepares to get yelled at*

Also: yeah, what everyone else said: your own sexual experience (or lack thereof) doesn't correspond directly to your writing ability. It can help, but we're inspired/influenced by all kinds of things when writing, not just immediate personal experience.

On a related note, I've just learned that I am not alone.

It's very comforting! Thanks for sharing, OP!

[identity profile] chelonianmobile.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
From what I hear this is pretty normal - people of all sexualities fantasise about things they have absolutely no desire to do in real life, and write about them too. Don't worry about it :) (I'm pretty similar to what you describe, except I don't actually write porn. Yet. I've made one or two attempts and none of them were internet-worthy, but I'll get there.)

[identity profile] a-pious-cruelty.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)

(Anonymous) 2011-04-13 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. Yet another secret that convinces me that 90% of people who say they are asexual are LYING.

"I'm tired of people thinking I'm not asexual just because I have sexual thoughts."
"I'm tired of people thinking I'm not asexual because I have sexual fantasies."
"I'm tired of people thinking I'm not asexual because I have sexual urges."
"I'm tired of people thinking I'm not asexual because I masturbate."
"I'm tired of people thinking I'm not asexual because I have sex."
"I'm tired of people thinking I'm not asexual because I have sex and enjoy it."

AT SOME POINT, NO. YOU ARE NOT ASEXUAL. WHY THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? JUST BECAUSE IT'S NOT MAINSTREAM? BECAUSE IT MAKES YOU SPECIAL? SHUT THE FUCK UP AND HAVE SOME SEX.

Oh OP, I know where you're coming from SO HARD. As a high schooler, I'm under a lot a pressure to have sex. I always kind of go, "Mmmmh, nawww I'm good." Porn is one of my favorite things ever but I would never actually want to do it myself.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-13 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
replace writing with drawing and I'm you, op <3

(Anonymous) 2011-04-13 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Another one to join the "I'm like you!" fray. For me though it's because the sexual fantasies I write/dream about are so dark I can't imagine them happening to anyone in real life. Sadly non-con is the only thing that turns me on, like all my sexual desires live in the shadow side of my psyche. I don't like them to happen to me or anyone else IRL. On the other hand normal sex the way sexual people do it doesn't do anything for me. It bores me to death. So yeah, like you, even though I have sexual fantasies of the kinkiest type, I fully identify as asexual.

[identity profile] frankemix.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It amazes me how many people think asexuality = definitely does not like/want sex.

Of course there are people who do not want it, but ... AFAIK, sexuality doesn't really have much to do with how much you want sex/have sex/whatever. :\ I could ramble on this using myself as an example (I'm not asexual, but there's still relevancy?), but I'll stop here, aha.

I think the lack of sexual attraction makes it easier to write realistic porn, or at least that's my theory. When I write porn I'm not thinking about how hot it's making me, or how much I want to sugarcoat it and make it seem ~amazing. I'm thinking of what the characters are feeling [because I certainly don't have an opinion on it] and what would be realistic for those two individuals to do in a sexual situation. It's hard to write generic cardboard porn when you give very few fucks about the "porn" part, and are more interesting in writing your kids in character while they just happen to be having sex, as opposed to, say, playing pool.

According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of asexual is devoid of sexuality. So, no. You might have a low sex drive, you're definitely celibate, but if you have any kind of sexual fantasies, you are not DEVOID of sexuality, and are not, therefore, asexual.

"Life Among the One Percent"
http://tigerbeatdown.com/2011/04/13/life-among-the-one-percent/

sample:
Many of us believe that asexuality is a sexual orientation in its own right, and it is important to be aware that it is a very diverse one; to be asexual is as diverse as being lesbian or heterosexual, with room for many facets of identity under that broad label. Some asexuals are very interested in sex, and may consume, make, and discuss pornography, ranging from erotic stories to films. ... Many of us are interested in sex on a cultural level if not a personal one, or derive pleasure from specific genres of erotica and porn (just as some of us masturbate). Others may enjoy the experience of creating erotic work for partners or others; some asexuals are very active in the erotic fanfiction community, for example. The absence of sexual attraction does not necessarily equate to a lack of interest in sex as a cultural and social phenomenon. ...Some of us also have sex, for a variety of reasons; asexuality doesn’t mean you never have sex, and you are not cast out of the cool kids club for having it.

[identity profile] thewondersmith.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I have to say, I'm still kind of puzzled as to why anyone thinks its their business to dictate another person's orientation. It has nothing to do with them.
