ngl if they turn it into porn i will start watching again.

::sigh:: I really wish people would stop making fun of that.

You know how sometimes, people have really specific triggers no one could predict? (Like, for example, [livejournal.com profile] impertinence's calculus trigger that she explained in heartbreaking detail?)

If you were close friends with someone like that, and you knew about their trigger, wouldn't you warn for it, even if it didn't make sense to people who don't know your friend? It doesn't mean it's a "thing," or something oversensitive people are demanding because slippery slope. It means one friend was sensitive to the needs of another friend in a more public forum than usual. That's all. Seriously.

[identity profile] darlas-mom.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Or maybe they're friends with an idiot who linked to it going "OMG AWESOME FIC ABOUT OUR FAVORITE PAIRING!" and neglected to mention, "Oh, BTW, it's a Nazi kink AU!"? :-/

'Cause...that's happened to me. The fic's warnings were in the author's LJ profile instead of on the fic's page, and when all you have to go by is "AWESOME X/Y FIC!", you might just miss things.

[identity profile] darlas-mom.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Um...right here on F!S, someone's word-for-word response to a Jewish person being upset by Nazi kink was, "I want a fic of Himmler and Goering taking turns ass-raping your favorite character."

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Going into something blind doesn't make someone stupid. It makes them uninformed, which they can't really help if there isn't any information given. I was referring to people who ignore warnings or go to places where they know things they don't like will be found.

[identity profile] icarian-ink.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
sad that that's what f!s seems to be much of the time...

[identity profile] icarian-ink.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, that is an incredibly extensive (and extensively organized) list. See, I'm totally on board with the developing friendship side of things, especially with the most recent episodes, and the points you bring up about that are great, but I can never imagine supporting a romantic relationship between them. It just seems like too great of a leap from Kurt being too terrified to even continue going to the same school as this guy to wanting to date him. Not something I'd understand. So it's very interesting to me how developed this ship-dom is, when I would never in my life have conceived of it.

[identity profile] darlas-mom.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Do very many people do that? 'Cause, I've wondered.

I mean, kinkmemes. People complain a lot about things they bump into on kinkmemes. But I don't think I've ever seen a kinkmeme with a standardized warning system? (Actually, IIRC, the "Community" kinkmeme died because pairing and warning headers were required, so...there's that.)

I'm not disagreeing with you, I just think that fandom in general really likes to believe that people are whiny reactionaries who look for things to get offended about and thus no one has to take any complaint or criticism seriously. It's a thing that happens, all the time, on any side of any fandom argument. It's weird.

[identity profile] darlas-mom.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Man, my automatic reaction to the term "first years" is to picture eleven-year-olds. Thanks, "Harry Potter." ::facepalms::

(Anonymous) 2011-05-15 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
To put everything in a nutshell, Episode 8 reveals that Episodes 1 & 2 were complete fictions, made up from whole cloth and written by Yasu, who is Shannon/Kannon/Beatrice/the kitchen sink. Every episode after the first two are fictions written by Hachijou and an older amnesic Battler working together, trying to make sense of Battler's twisted and half-remembered memories.

So, basically Episode 8 reveals everything that happened didn't happen and we have no way of knowing what information, if any, is actually based off the truth. Oh, and it's also suggested that Battler may have been one of the murderers along with Kyrie and Rudolf, who were tagged as the "true culprits". Except not. Or maybe they were. Who knows? Ryukishi ain't gonna tell us and we have no way of finding out.

[identity profile] darlas-mom.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! You actually did mean twelve-year-olds? Fantastic! That's how I read it! \o/

...but, um, the fact that his bio says "child killer," as mentioned at the top of the thread, kind of implies that this character has already crossed a pretty big no-no line, and there's not much they can do to make the character sympathetic. :-/

[identity profile] darlas-mom.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
condescending, egomaniacal douchetractor

I...I think I love you.

[identity profile] darlas-mom.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Who is that actress? I cannot take my eyes off her.

[identity profile] darlas-mom.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Well, OP, I seem to be alone in not taking your hyperbole literally (I'm sure you don't actually want people to die), but we part ways after that. I've never even heard of this fandom, but I'm glad there's fic for it. I think there should be fic for everything. (Well. To a point. It makes me want to cry a little when things like Final Cut Pro make it as Yuletide fandoms- not because I'm opposed to the existence of Final Cut Pro fic, it's just that getting it in my Yuletide assignment made me want to go lie down for a while.)

[identity profile] beandelphiki.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
What makes you think I was necessarily talking about fandom?

There are many other uses for computers. Seriously.

[identity profile] beandelphiki.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. Thank you. That's gross.

One example, though...? I'm not really impressed by the idea that this is so widespread or accepted that it justifies the wankbait secret.

And I can easily link posts across the internet with several nasty insults from the other side ("You must be the same sort of people as the Nazis," - Nazi kink wasn't even involved - "I wouldn't allow people with your sexuality around kids," "You deserve to lose your job over your kink, you were probably flaunting it," - no, really - "You should kill yourself," "Get raped," - that last multiple times on f!s - etc.), but only one person's even attempted to list me an example in response here?

[identity profile] swordygardener.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
This is amazing. I thought I was the only one who still remembers this game.

socreepy

[identity profile] beandelphiki.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Haaa, thank you.

[identity profile] darlas-mom.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I can do this all night if you like.

Also here on F!S: most any time anyone complains about a problematic kink, there are at least twenty people going, "Oh, fucking SJ Warriors, when will this SJ movement in fandom die already?"

There's the fact that people here are still mocking a "large reptile warning" on Shakesville, even though that was pretty obviously a "I know this is one of my own friends' personal, highly specific triggers" thing, not a "Oh, people will ask for warnings for anything" thing.

You could make a drinking game out of how many times people feel the need to say "no1curr" on any serious-issues-in-fandom secret.

You could also make a drinking game based on "YKINMK" and its variations. Arguing with an acronym is pretty dismissive. :-/ It says, "Your pain is not even worth engaging with for more than ten letters."

And that's just here on F!S. Anyone but me remember zvi's three-page, five-hundred-person clusterfuck comparing triggers to allergies and requests for warnings to asking a cook for her special secret recipe? Or the assholes who trolled impertinence's post about what a trigger is, saying she was clinging to her victim status and shouldn't even be in fandom? Or the miscegenation wank on [livejournal.com profile] daily_deviant a few years ago? (That one was fun. It ended up on F_W, with people mocking the people who were offended by it roughly as much as they were mocking the people who had done the offending.)

ETA: BTW, if I had to guess, this secret is in response to this thread: http://fandomsecrets.livejournal.com/682799.html?thread=435978799#t435978799

...People go "fucking SJ warriors" because, first and foremost, of the incorrigible shitheads from sfda, who can smell wankbait like this from miles away and come bounding over the hills in a horde that would make fucking Sranc blanch, howling for blood and jerking at their groins. These people say the absolute stupidest shit, they take over any social justice-related topic, and nothing of value happens.

Secondly, nine times out of ten, no one is doing anything wrong. Warnings have been observed, traditions have been followed, the seventeen ritual goddamned candles have been lit and all should be well...except that, again, someone wants to start shit, and they will come up with any excuse to do so. Like, for example, the whole kerfluffle over the genderqueer person who couldn't enjoy a show anymore because a friend of a friend said it appealed to
"both genders". Seriously?!

Another example would, indeed, be LARGE REPTILE WARNING. What the everliving fuck. Shakesville is already supremely ridiculous in my mind, and a hive for sfda-ri, but that just is the crown goddamn jewel. I mean...how does that even work? Do you have a specific medically diagnosed phobia of large reptiles (i.e. seeing one makes you need to cry for hours somehow?) I would hope so, because no, you do not get to ask for trigger warnings just because you don't fucking like it.

Which is why YKINMK was invented. You do not get to say something is anathema just because you don't fucking like it; you are not the Internet Pope, and you don't get to make an Index Librorum Prohibitorum. If you were warned and you read anyway, that is on you. People are not going to stop the world for your pain. No one does care about it that much. No one has to.

Re: Spoilers for Prom episode

[identity profile] xerxes92.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
2. The thing about the crying while apologizing is, Karofsky was actually that sorry. Enough for him to actually cry. he put his heart out there and Kurt accepted it. And you can never force someone to forgive. You could make them say that they forgive you, but they could still never actually fovgive them until they actually wanted to.

Also, being selfish by apologizing, what bullshit is that?

(Anonymous) 2011-05-15 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
God damn, you're right. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] is the root of all evil, the abode of all those horrible SJ warriors plugging up the internet with their cries for self-examination and discussion of oppression.

I'll give you a hint: sfd_anon is a place full of wanky, drama-loving anons who just so happen to tend to give about 2 shits more about SJ stuff than the vast majority of people on the internet. The fact that they care about SJ stuff doesn't mean they're not also assholes and wankmongers a lot of the time. And the fact that a lot of the anons are wanky assholes doesn't mean that the moment people from sfd_anon get involved in a conversation it will just be pointless trolling.

Also. There are so many people vehemently opposed to the idea of warning because somehow it's kinkshaming, so many people who will argue to the death that what they've written doesn't deserve a warning because they don't think there's anything of questionable consent or what have you in it, that I have a hard time believing that 9 times out of 10 it's just people kicking up a fuss for no reason when all the appropriate warnings are in place.

[identity profile] avatarmn.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
I've always rolled my eyes over Kurtofsky. But I'm starting to not only wonder if it's going to happen, but feeling like I wouldn't hate it. Difference is, OP... I waited until there was SOMETHING THERE. It's not so much that I found it offensive, I found it to be complete tin-hatting. Since "Prom Queen", now there's something to work with.

[identity profile] ainekatt.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Mmmm yes please.
