Notes:

This is not your forum to identify and call out specific people just to call them assholes. Call out general actions you find reprehensible, mod ability/inability, that kind of stuff, but once you get into what basically amounts to 'this person is a stupid bitch and here are some icons/an lj layout/add. info to identify them with' - no.

lolll it took me a while as well to understand that SA = Something Awful too! I'm from SA and whenever I see 'SA Goons' I read it as 'South Australian Something Awful Goons' which is...yeah.

Uggghh, yeah, that's even worse. It's like, if they think they're that bad, I can only imagine what they must secretly think of me.

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
It's basically as bad with that as you'd think, too, at least in the pilot (I stopped watching after that-- ugh). The woman who can manipulate emotions is portrayed just like, well, every other "seductress" type woman ever on television, and... well, the woman who can strengthen one of her senses does so at the cost of obliterating every other sense and is nearly caught in the frigging pilot, because portraying a woman as observant, intelligent, and competent is apparently way too hard for them.

Meanwhile, yeah, the guys are shown as competent and useful while the girls... well, one does nothing and the other is a damsel in distress. Oh, I was overjoyed, let me tell you. */bitter*

This.

I am usually pretty unfazed by all the trollish bullshit on f!s no matter what it's about, and half the time I take the bait in join the wank.

But this shit is making my brain hurt.

Also, actual infanticide? Like you're saying, prooobably best not to get too judgmental about, outside of actual abusive situations where the death is result of some fucked up compulsion, instead of survival. There are still places in the world where it still happens for pretty legit reasons that none of us will ever have to deal with, or for that matter, live with. It's not like it makes happy memories.

How desperate to troll does an anon have to be dig up some weird extension of an abortion debate and accuse someone of actually condoning the murder of infants?

What on earth would you make your financially-enslaved boyfriend buy for you?

Uh. Guys? Dunno if you know this, but there already IS a kinkmeme. Go make it active. :D

I am very much looking forward to this too. <3

[identity profile] mistaria.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
I am glad I'm not a part of the fandom. I love the show though I have to admit the second half of last season annoyed the shit out of me. The adoption/Meredith losing her job + Cristina being preggers (again) was so... ugh.

Possible Fridge Brilliance?

[identity profile] raykat.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of people are bagging on this secret because of the phrasing, and I agree it could have been better, but I think the concept itself has possibility, especially because...

...Kyubey exclusively targets girls for contracts in canon because of the energy he believes they possess. If he were to go after a "boy" it would likely be because he thought the individual had "female" energy, and therefore maybe wasn't a boy at all.

Alternately, Kyubey seems to like granting wishes that will some way backfire on the wisher and cause despair. A boy that wasn't actually a trans who made a wish to change himself for whatever reason might regret it later on, which could play into Kyubey's paws.

People think Draco is one of the most complex/interesting characters in HP? JKR barely gives him any character development at all from what I recall. o_o ::is jumped on by rabid Draco fangirls::

And totally feel free to correct me fandom peeps and please be nice, I am not trying to be rude to Draco fans I just don't think he's a complex character because his motivations/etc. are very easy to figure out/understand and he is a spoiled only child (meaning he doesn't have some complex dark past like Snape/Voldemort/Dumbles).

Right! Changing medium is interesting, isn't it? Trying to fit words to what was visual or interactive or what have you. It's one of the things I like most about writing fanfic.
That, and finding exact references in a book is a pain... unless your fandom has a Lexicon or something :( (or is a tiny book)

[identity profile] ketita.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
I seem to be the only one who didn't find the movie particularly scary. The physical parts, like when she scratched/picked at her self were uncomfortable, but they didn't leave me horrified for days. I thought the portrayal of her instability was very well done, though.
(Walking out of the theater, the guy I was with said, "So, did I ever tell you I'm actually schizophrenic?". Our conversation then made a much bigger impression on me XD)

[identity profile] pet-lunatic.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
This - I enjoyed the first one, and I'm glad it encouraged people to get into Holmes fandom (and grateful that it perhaps resulted in a bigger audience for the BBC's new 'Sherlock', which is far more faithful to the spirit of the books, IMO), but I honestly thought calling it 'Sherlock Holmes' at all was little more than a marketing ploy. It was fun, but it wasn't Holmes.

Strangely, I'm not but off by it. Probably because it's CLAMP and in comparison to some of their more fucked-up pairings this one is practically all sunshine and rainbows. Also probably because the way it's portrayed is kinda innocent and non-sexual.

[identity profile] pet-lunatic.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
I agree about Dumbledore - by far the most interesting, complex, and believable character in the series, IMO. If JKR writes more books in the Potterverse I would hugely prefer Dumbledore's life to be explored rather than a rehash of the same stories with Harry et al's kids. His backstory deserves a book series of its own, and I'd love to see more of Aberforth and Grindelwald.

[identity profile] crimsontriforce.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
Latecomer hug, anon! Tastes change and people do not get into potentially awesome experiences right off the bat for the weirdest of reasons (anyone raise a hand who hasn't gone "Where WAS I when so and so released?"). It happens. Were you having fun before, in other fandoms? I hope so. Now's the right time for HP and you're there. Cheer up!

[identity profile] helenadax.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Gary's a man and he has a "mental" power. Unless you're saying that autistic boys are women, your description isn't accurate.

[identity profile] yahalomay.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
This is exactly what I wanted to say here as well. :)

[identity profile] i-paint-the-sky.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with you. I actually do like Draco's development in Halfblood Prince but he was so 2-dimensional before that, which makes it impossible to say he's one of the most interesting characters to me. Snape on the otherhand is crazy complex almost from book one.

I do find Voldemort pretty interesting overall, especially in the later books. Dumbledore too, though his complexity does have to come more from hindsight for me, since Deathly Hallows revealed so much about him that changes the interpretation of everything else he did throughout the series.

So yes, I'll half agree that I can't understand people saying Draco is a more complex character, at least not just based on the actual books. He's just too underdeveloped for the most part.

[identity profile] helenadax.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
Draco doesn't have a dark past, he has a dark present. He's Snape, Regulus... Someone who believed something until he found out he was sorely mistaken. I think he's interesting because after the war, he's the only one who doesn't have a clear path waiting for him.

But I wouldn't say that HP characters are complex or deep. At all.

[identity profile] hells-hikari.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, as all the others said, different opinions. I think Draco, Snape and Dumbledore (especially his past) are interesting. Voldemort not so much.

But you know, finding them interesting does not mean that I don't think that McGonagall is interesting too.

IDK if you're deriving this from personal experience, if you've noticed this trend in HP fandom (because honestly, I don't know anything about HP fandom), but it seems as if you're saying that somehow, being interested in Draco and Snape means you don't care about those two other characters.

It's all about relating and maybe the headcanon possibly everybody develops while reading that influences this, and I think it's unfair to say that somebody reads the series wrong because of such trivial things.

[identity profile] speth.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
I love CoS too. It's always been one of my favourites. However, I never liked PoA all that much so I don't really follow convention.
