dear internet:

the vast majority of people in this world are not educated/enlightened about transgender issues.

many of them, without malice or prejudice, legitimately find it a little confusing and it might make them vaguely uncomfortable. most people feel this way about things they don't understand. it's perfectly normal.

flipping out over the slightest perceived affront to transgendered identity is not only going to discourage well-meaning but naive people from learning more about the issue, it's going to basically discourage any actual change being made. insulting them is punishment - now they're just too nervous to speak up or have any feelings at all about transgenderism. congratulations. calmly explaining what the issue is and how it might offend you is a great way to encourage people to educate themselves and, you know, possibly become advocates or voices for tolerance.

This whole "He doesn't have a penis!!!" thing kind of baffles me. You people seem somewhat educated on trans things, so it surprises me that no one has brought up the fact that there is a huge assortment of prosthetic penises out there for transmen that are basically just like "real" penises. They get warm by body temperature, they're made of life-like silicon, with veins and harness and all sorts of things. Many of them can go from flaccid to erect, etc. The only limitations are that they don't produce/ejaculate semen, and they've yet (to my standards) been able to replicate a realistic, functional foreskin.

I realize that still might not be enough for a straight woman/gay man to enjoy, especially if someone really enjoys sucking cock for the reactions it gives the man or something, but. For PIV sex I suspect it would be basically indistinguishable from a "real" penis. I also know several transmen with these prosthetics who have had sex with women who had no idea said penises weren't real. So it's not all enlarged clit-penises or somewhat less-than-satisfactory-surgery. Being with a transman doesn't mean you need to suddenly start liking vagina. (I'm sure that will vary from man to man, of course, but it certainly shouldn't be treated like a given fact.)
