Being a cloud cuckoolander who believes Mr. T and Godzilla were US presidents and won't stop talking during a movie=no personality?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
If retarded = personality, yes.

[identity profile] boxlunch33.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
FUCK YES

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Probably, but with that new design you can't blame people for recoiling in nostalgic horror, as most commenters haven't watched the new series.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
And they made Porky's mate a thin pig.

Are you kidding me. Sigh. whyyy

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Because fat chicks cannot have a boyfriend and any other traits outside eating.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
i'm glad i'm not the only one who feels this way. i enjoy the bbc's sherlock but it's not the incredible, amazing, true-to-the-books show that fandom says it is. hell, i'm not even a big fan of benedict cumberbatch's sherlock holmes. yes his voice is sexy, but imo he comes across as a personality-less drone. at least guy ritchie's sherlock holmes movies are fun and silly. it's like watching an awesome adventure movie like the mummy or indiana jones; full of fun characters, silly humor and lots of adventure.

Sorry to hear the truth hurts. Fat and ugly girls only deserve love if they're paying. That's just the way it is.

Here she is.

You're all into it, so what's your point?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, I'm not fat, ugly or self-loathing.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I miss the days when it was not a crime for cartoon characters to be single.

Isn't Batman a vigilante.

I mean it seems like he doesn't get to throw this criticism around, especially since the only defend-able usage of a vigilante of any real worth is carrying out extra-judicial killings that the state is unwilling or unable to do.

Those who's corruption is rampant but leaves them untouchable, or otherwise have such a tremendous negative effect that the value in removing them through non-legal purposes outweighs the net negative of such a fundamental violation of the social contract.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Also remember that Hero TV was a reality show profiting off of heroes, not a bona fide branch of judiciary.

And fyi, the only person who knew what was going on behind Hero TV was Maverick. The ultimate bad guy.

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely agree. However, I personally identify with Batman because I believe I would make the same moral choice (although I would be fine and not interfere should someone else want to do the deed. Because the time and energy spent trying to save a villain, I could spend that time and energy saving people from being mugged in the street).

I think it is a choice that someone shouldn't take lightly, and I would side-eye any vigilante who killed even if I otherwise trusted them. You know, if this was real.

Of course, if I DID have superpowers, I would like Trickster-esque ones that enable me to 'teach a lesson' to the offending party, or at the very least scar them for life. So I doubt that I am exactly morally pure on this matter either.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh... ouch OP. I know how hard that is, as I can sometimes veer into that territory without realizing it. I hope things work out D:

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
This.

OP, you don't need to go out of your way to tell your boyfriend that you like anime. But maybe just leave your anime DVDs around the house? Or attach a small anime keychain to your bag? Something small that shows your BF that you like anime, but aren't obsessed to the point of being an otaku or an embarrassment or whatever.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
lol now I'm gonna demand a trigger warning for every single potentially upsetting thing.

While there are a lot of women who have abortions and don't really feel emotional one way or the other about them, it's not that way for everybody. Even if someone is pro-choice and believes they made the right decision by having an abortion, they can still have mixed emotions about it. I don't think it's extremely common but it does happen. Everyone is different.

I wanted to like it but it was just so boring
Sorry

If I wanted to watch a series about quasi-lesbians kicking ass I'd just watch Dirty Pair

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
er...what? new looney tunes =/= all cartoons. there are plenty of cartoon characters who are single. o.O

and anyway, it's not like lola bunny and bugs bunny's relationship is an overly new concept in kids shows. harley quinn and the joker? miss piggy and kermit the frog? helga and arnold?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Holy assumptions, batman.
I've been a huge fan of Sherlock canon, before either the movies or the series came about. And guess what? I prefer the movies. And not because of shippiness or whatever. Sure, they might not be completely faithful but the films provide enough of the canon's 'groundedness' for me to appreciate it. Personally, I think some of the film's energy is more appropriate to some of Sherlock than the programme, but anyway.

Even though you don't seem aggressive, you seem to think people who like 'popcorn flicks' don't like reading and this comment smacks of condescension to me. Especially since you pine for just the literature. What difference does the adaptations make to the lit?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
And who decides what is "rampant"? Would you really, honestly trust the judgement some random person who decides to go and dish out justice based on his own values? Do you trust him to be always in the right state of mind? Do you trust him to serve society and not his own means?

It's a bit like autocracy vs democracy. Yes, in theory autocracy is more effective and if done right it can be better than democracy because ut cuts down on debate and can silence unsavory voices and opinions. The problem is that it's rarely, if ever, done right because humans are just humans.

No, judges and courts are not infallible either, but at least they're society's own way of dealing with its problems based on rules accepted by the majority of society. Not on the values of some random stranger off the street.

You know, Anon, I'm not the most outgoing person in the world. I can probably count the number of friends I have in this state, if not on one hand, then certainly without taking off my shoes. And only a couple of those friends like music, or have a lot time to spend Not Researching but also Not Sleeping.

But yesterday, I went to a Youtube Singalong Party, and I had fun. Maybe I only really knew two of the people there, and maybe I had to leave early because I had archery practice at 8:30 the next morning, but I still went, and the party still happened. Some of us could sing; quite a few couldn't (and even more of us couldn't rap to save our lives, but we still did it anyway because it's fun). What I'm saying is that you don't have to have friends who are super-serious musicians, and you don't even have to be very good at it. Out of the friends you have now, there's probably a few who would love to sit down with a laptop, some wine/soda/drink of choice, and the internet, and waste a couple of hours singing Disney songs and Lady Gaga. All you have to do is ask them.

Calling others assholes should come with a TW.
