I don't really have any problems with Elena as a character. Her decision to have Damon compel Jeremy away pissed me off, but at least Bonnie called her on it so it's not like the writers just gave her a free pass about it (and I figure it won't stick anyway, it's just the writers writing around the budget not letting them have every character in every episode). But, while she isn't my favorite character, I do like her. I don't get the hate.

I think it takes incredible courage to be honest with yourself and your place in life when it comes to having children. I don't watch either of these shows, so I don't know how those characters dealt with it, but you are already handling a very difficult decision with grace. *hugs*

Yes, you're right! The Morois have like a catering service and some don't even do it for the money anymore, they just do it for the high. And then there are bloodwhores who are basically single mothers. The Moroi fathers visit them to drink and breed. Fuck and breed buddies but never good enough to marry because the halfbreeds can only spawn with the full vamps.

I more meant that there's much less connection to anything actually canon in the movie, especially in terms of characterization. In very broad, fuzzy terms it's relatable: eccentric genius with a loyal companion. But other than that pretty much every thing else is different/forgoed. The intricate plots, the most of the characterization. Sherlock BBC, I feel, tries a little harder to actually mirror the canon.

I'm not saying either is better, they're just very different.
