Personally, I felt she lost it crying more because that choice was taken away from her than because she actually wanted kids. I thought it was powerful to show exactly how even a choice taken away will affect us. I personally don't care whether I will have biological kids or not, but if that choice was taken from me... I would lose it too. And I honestly don't care, that's the weird thing about us humans.

And if they did that plot with Lily it would have lost a lot of dimension and simply become another member of a already explored area. Not that they couldn't have done it well, but it is a lot less compelling to me.

... Of course, I also think as someone else who identifies with Robin, we will all associate her actions to how we would feel about it. I know sometimes on some things I feel like she is being OOC, and then I go 'Oh, wait. That's just not what I would do! Duh me, she's Robin.' It's kinda natural I think.

Wow, that was uncalled for.

It makes no sense to try and shelter people (like me) who are against abortion from the fact that it exists... and then turn around and imply that people who struggle with self-harm are just being special snowflakes and need to suck it up. >.>

I agree that it makes sense to warn for abortion since for some, it could trigger some, for people who were forced into one or something. However, that doesn't make other trigger warnings less valid.

Not alone. :)

seriously, if frank and jamia ever split, i will cry.

It's perfectly possible to watch the occasional anime and not be a weeaboo or even let other people think you are a weeaboo. If your friends and boyfriend are real, true, genuinely cool people, they will not give a fuck. You just need to say to them one day, "Yeah, I watched XYZ and enjoyed it. Fuck off if you don't care. It's not like I'm wearing a Naruto headband to work now."

Seriously, this is not the sort of thing that needs to be a Deep Dark Secret. As someone who is a pretty casual anime fan myself, I know I'd like to see more "normal" anime fans represented out there.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the one I can't stand because I just want to shake Marvel and ask why they're wasting their time on Ghost Rider when they're are others they could be funneling that budget into.

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ideally? Yes! Realistically? HELL NO.

As Batman points out, once you go down that road you can start justifying a hella lot of stuff. The fact that he is very human and has loads of issues means that I wouldn't trust him to make that decision, as I trust no human to make that decision (unless there is so much freakin' evidence that the disgusting criminal is obvious and it is a horrifying crime. In that case, I do trust the justice system. Sometimes).

[identity profile] kyuusei.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Most likely.

Regardless, I loved this show and it's one of the very, very few anime I still love so much. I wonder if it's on blu-ray...

[identity profile] bamboo.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I forgot about him. But there aren't really a lot of them and they don't band together and form communities like the females do, where they raise their children and have more children from the Morois who 'visit' them.

What's the story Wishbone?

(I think Basil is my favorite "Sherlock")

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I know it's weird. :/

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
But does it actually, seriously trigger you into PTSD flashbacks? If it doesn't, then you're just watering down the idea of trigger warnings until they get harder and harder to take seriously.

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Op, if you never talk about it, you will never find a person who likes it as well.

Here's a suggestion- find a key ring, button, etc of your favorite anime. Something small that you can wear around without raised eyebrows. You will be surprised how many people will say they like it (depending on the places you go, of course)! And if a person starts making snarky comments, you could say it is a gift from someone and you thought it was cute, and can back up quickly.

In many cities anime has become kinda-sorta mainstream. I can't remember the last time someone looked down on me for liking it!

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck!

The only advice I would give is that have somebody to talk to every step of the way. Be it your best friend or your family or a therapist. Have someone to support you. It helps.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
You're a jerk and this comment doesn't even make sense.

[identity profile] violence4.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I wasn't trying to call you weird. I'm not particularly up on all the ins and outs of anime and manga, but reading your comments and other comments on this secret is making me think I had no idea how badly some people could react to its fans. That's totally bizarre and a real shame, if some people react so strongly that fans feel they can't be open about liking that stuff :(

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually didn't buy that pokemon game because I was ticked that they replaced Crys. Which is probably stupid of me, but damn. Why replace the kick-ass girl with a cutesy bow-wearing one?

(Of course, mind that at the time I found this out I was being harassed on WoW for being a girl, and had a couple of manga I was reading throw blatant misogyny in my face, so I am perhaps a bit more bitter about this than a normal person.)

[identity profile] kayfig.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel the same way. Love the books, love all the adaptations, but I do prefer the movies slightly more. I think each is strong in its own way, each having its weaknesses as well. I've never understood the idea that you need to be in one camp over another, can't we all just love Holmes/Watson no matter how they exist? Anything that continues or expands upon stories I already love is good enough for me. <3 MOAR HOLMES, MOAR BETTER.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, sorry your family was like that to you. :/ I'm glad your boyfriend was sweet about it! <3

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Did your best friend try to start World War 3 too? You wouldn't believe what a common problem this is. You should look online for a support group.

TGMD has always been one of my favorite Disney movies.

And LOL Wishbone got me through SO MANY stories I had to read in in school it's not funny. I'm thinking, "No, I haven't read that literary masterpiece, but I HAVE seen the Wishbone episode of it, so I get the gist." It always more entertaining to read them whilst pretending the character was a sassy jack russell terrier.

Because fandom's a hobby people use to relax, I kind of get getting bent out of shape about stuff like unwanted content showing up. It's kind of like a fly dropping in your lemonade when you've just settled down to relax.

[identity profile] rabidsamfan.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a great deal of canon in the movies. And I know more people who went from the movies to the books than from the BBC series to the books.

Me, I've been a Sherlockian for decades, and I love them both. And Granada. And the Russian series. And the Ronald Howard series. And for that matter the Geoffrey Whitehead... er, um, yup, as long as there's a decent Watson, I'm pretty much a fan!

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh, my family did get me some of the twilight books one year, but that's it...

I have exceptional memory, at least for fiction, other stuff not so much, but I can remember the plots of books I read in like 5th grade, I might have to read a chapter or two from the book before I remember it all but...
