I don't hate him, but his arrogance annoys me. I hate people who act like that in real life.

I liked that in The Avengers, Captain America found seemed to be bothered by him too.

He's an arrogant, irresponsible, self-centered ass? I mean, he's a delightfully fun character to watch, and he also has his good points, but if you know anyone like that in real life, you'd probably hate them.

i don't hate him, but i can't like his character. i could in the first iron man, but i don't understand why he is *still* a total douche. he seemed to have worked through a lot of his issues...but no, apparently not. characters who don't grow annoy me.

Yeah, I find him kind of abrasive and I wouldn't like him personally...but I also ship him with everyone, because I think his particular brand of arrogant/sarcastic/brave would help nearly any of the other Avengers.

I knew a person who aspired to be this guy, basically. Pretended he was him, but without anything to back him up. (Stark at least is a comic book hero that isn't just a useless college student)

So since that guy I knew was a huge manipulative asshole I can't take Stark as anything but a huge manipulative asshole, despite any evidence to the contrary.

But he rubbed me the wrong way before I knew that person, though I could distance myself because he was a character in a movie.

For me, he's a fun character - his combination of issues, values, personality flaws, and privileges means that he can keep a story rolling. It's very hard to write Tony Stark or Iron Man into a corner. But I would haaaate having to deal with Tony Stark in RL for any length of time, and I don't quite understand why Occupy Stark Industries isn't permanently camped on his doorstep (well, maybe he sent Pepper out to talk with them instead of trying to do that himself, but that seems unusually wise for him).

Aww. I love Tony Stark. He reminds me of my dad, personality-wise (definitely not money-wise), who I love very much. But that personality type can drive you crazy if you're not used to it.

Well, Tony Stark's personality is kinda similar to RDJ's. And from what I've seen, everyone who's worked with RDJ loves him to death so I think Tony Stark would be quite lovable if he's real. You just have to see the real him. That's all.

Phil, Natasha, Fury, Bruce, and Hulk all liked him in the movies.

If Tony is real, he's going to be on the level of Einstein. People are going to be wowed by his genius, instead of unimpressed as seen in the movie. He can be eccentric but that's just how most geniuses are so no issues there.

As an engineer, I personally would try to get him to babble science to me the whole day. Imagine all the things I could learn from him.

I'll admit, Movie!Tony is a bit of a douche. Well, a lot of a douche.

I like EMH!Tony, though. Less douchey. And he gets the crap kicked out of him by Cap in an episode. : DD

It's okay not to like characters everybody seems to love. While I do love Tony, I'm the same with lots of other popular characters - dislike them, almost hating them, actually being squicked by them, even - and like you, I often can't explain why. A few examples: Wolfram von Bielefeld (Kyou Kara Maou), Justin Taylor (Queer as Folk) or Draco Malfoy (Harry Potter).
