[ Anon Meme ]

F!S Anon Meme (the Seventh, and now on DW!)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with captchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

I'll be linking some general/general-fandom threads I see so people don't repost new threads with the same stuff.

Unpopular Ships
Obligatory Masturbation Thread
Fandoms you wish existed
How old are you?
What series have you always meant to watch/read/play/etc. but have never?
Time and location
Female-centric works
How do you feel about Tumblr?
Pet thread
Guilty pleasure thread
Favorite old shows
First fandom?

Is the best way to deal with haters to just ignore them?

I got my first one, and I blocked them on tumblr. I didn't want to give them any attention or anything so I haven't talked about it at all to the people watching my blog or my friends yet. But they just called me out on their blog (along with a few other people) and said we're messed up for liking stupid stuff we do, and regularly reblog stuff from my fan blog to judge the things I do and how I do them.

The thing is, I'm not even a bnf... most of the stuff I post doesn't even get that much attention. (less than 10 notes / comments)

But I also see people judging bnfs for censoring their fans and not being able to take criticism / anything that isn't a praise is deleted so they look really stuck up.

What's the best way to do this? Am I doing it right? I really don't want to put up with them.

Really, just ignore them. For a while, it will make them even angrier, but eventually everyone will forget about the whole thing. If you get into an argument with them, there is a chance that the whole thing will explode in your face and will get you even more unwanted attention. You said that their attack was unprovoked, so there is also a good chance that they are quite young (like, 14-16 years old young), so getting into an argument with them is a lost cause, and in the eyes of outsiders, you are arguing with a stupid kid over fandom stuff.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-04 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true... now that I think of it, it is silly to get upset over some kid about fandom stuff.

Thank you anon!

If they're reblogging to tell you how much you're doing it wrong, then they're haters and the best thing to do is what you've done, block and ignore. It's not censorship. If you do a blog stating an opinion and leave comments open, that's one thing but it sounds like all they want to do is tell you how much your taste in whatever-it-is-you're-into sucks.

People like that are the moldy, scummy underside of fandom.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-04 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, sort of. Sometimes they reblog my artwork, or fanart that I reblogged from friends to tell me what a piece of shit it is, or you know, questioning my taste, etc. Just, I didn't know if I was being a wuss or if they were being an asshole.

But thank you anon, I'll continue keeping them blocked and ignore them.

Oh, you're still up? I have something that's better for an anon meme than a secret.

Generally, I like the AV Club, but whenever I read the Burn Notice recaps, it's like the reviewer and some of the commenters want something more serious than what the show is. I know the show can be inconsistent in places (especially since the show is now entering a phase where the plot is determined by how many more episodes a guest star can be in before they're credited as a regular), but if you're ranting about how "formulaic" the show is, then I guess you haven't seen shows like Leverage, where every episode's centered around a job that helps others.

No one's reading, but what the hell? I'm slightly amused by the fact that my husband has started shipping Al Michaels and Jim Cantore. Yes, in that order.

The biggest reason I don't get involved in fandoms.

So many that I like, i.e. Sherlock, The Avengers, Harry Potter, are chock full of slash shippers. I just don't like it. Usually because I ship, if anything non-canon, guy/girl ones. But so many fans go on and on about Sherlock/John, Tony/Steve/Banner, Harry/Draco/Snape, that I just keep my mouth shut and just stick to reading fanfics where I can specify which ships I want.

S!B: The reason I never voice any dislike about these is the fear of getting slammed as homophobic. It's not why I dislike this ships, but it's the obvious assumption people jump to. And homophobia is a BIG NO NO. Therefore I just don't say anything at all.

This is just idle wondering, but this girl who wrote fic I really like vanished from my fandom. We weren't bffs or anything, in fact we hardly knew each other, but I know she was struggling with anorexia -- from what she said I think pretty severe -- and a year or so back she just stopped showing up. Sometimes I wonder what happened to her, whether she decided to leave or got really sick or even died. I wondered whether it would be ok to ask one of her close friends at the time, but I didn't want to upset anyone if anything bad had happened or worry anyone if they didn't know either. I didn't want to sound ghoulish either, like I was assuming something bad had happened to her. I just know she had been sick for a long time and I had a bad feeling when she disappeared. I don't know why I still think about her because we weren't close -- I spose just the thought of her potentially dying and none of us being aware. Sooooo anyone ever been in this situation? It seems like the beauty but also one of the scary things about online friendships -- someone can just disappear and you have little if any way of ever finding out if they're ok.

Just some idle thoughts.........

what fandom?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
It's been a long time since I posted this, but Criminal Minds. It wasn't that big of a fandom so people probably know who I mean. If anyone ever reads this.
