Is a kinkmeme the right or wrong place to start out writing stuff for a certain fandom? I like it because it's anon... but it's also a huge fandom and I wonder if it's also the easiest place to get eaten alive.

I have not written anything yet tonight. No one has been reading the fic, so it doesn't really matter, but I still feel guilty :/

I wish the two youngest characters (the bartender's brother and Victoria's daughter) would DISAPPEAR. I hate the bartender's brother so much it's hard to watch. I keep skipping his parts but his idiotic fake accent keeps piercing my ears when he slips in. Oh and his hair is stupid.

I want to fill prompts on a kink meme, but I'm not a native speaker and I'm not confident enough in my grasp of the language to dare try.

People have told me to do it anyway, but I saw someone else try it once, in such a cringeworthy babelfish-like gibberish, that it gave me the worst case of second-hand embarrassment ever, not to mention a raging paranoia: what if I'm just as bad, or even worse?

Has RPF always had a stigma?

Okay so when I first got into fandom it was in the late 1990s. I guess this was a time where online fandoms were still a new thing and you kind of had to know where to look and what to search to find things. (Also you had to be accepted into yahoo groups or what have you to read FF and things seemed generally much more contained.)

I always seemed to ship real people as a young teenager. Singers, mostly, but sometimes people on TV shows or even athletes. Back then I never heard of people getting weirded out by this.

I don't know if it is because now fandom is big and open and people go around linking people without thinking, but RPF seems like a big no-no these days. I don't know how I feel about that. The older I get the less I care about shipping real people but it kind of fascinates me.

Did I just miss out on drama back in the olden days or is this also going hand in hand with Social Justice or what-have-you?

I think the problem some people have is how accessible some celebrities are now with things like facebook and twitter. I've heard people say they get bad second hand embarrassment being apart of a fandom that openly links and sends RPF to that celebrity or people connected to them.

For some reason I've always imagined the athlete's village to be like one big orgy for 2 weeks with the swim teams getting the most action because the commentators always seem to sound like they're so enamored with them all, so I get this idea they're the most propositioned.

Fandom Cold Feet

I wrote out part of a story for a fandom I like. The problem is that the fandom is kind of known for being a little elitist, the last story I wrote got good concrit but it was pretty blunt (I appreciate the hell out of this like any writer should but my self esteem is in a bad place recently so it's hard to swallow), and I haven't posted anything I've written in a real long time. I'm writing in a weird style too where I've seen secrets posted where people will outright skip fics written in the style.

It makes me all really really self conscious and I keep second guessing myself and thinking "who would want to read this." It's gotten more exhausting than enjoyable to write and I'm having a really hard time just letting go and writing for myself. It's hard to disconnect from the fact that it's a story I'm writing specifically for other people for the purpose of communicating a story I really want to tell and stop being so motherfuckin self conscious about it.

Anybody else have a similar problem? The funny part is I'm going to post it anonymous if i ever finish it and I'm still being this nervous. Sigh.

No, not at all. There's nothing wrong with being a fangirl. If it annoys you, then go to a different part of the internet. And why is SJW an insult anyway? It's intellectually lazy.

Actually, as far as fandom stuff goes, I prefer LJ because it's easier to interact with people. My tumblr is mostly a social justice/art blog where I reblog poetry and photography and read interesting academic articles. Most of my tumblr fangirling consists of looking at pretty graphics.
