Frankly, the vast majority have mediocre singing skills, and they're singing generic pop. People get sucked in by the idols themselves, and the relationship with the fans, and the whole show aspect of it.

(I will comment that there are several idols I am fond of, mainly because they are actually good singers. They're not terribly popular, because they're not necessarily the hottest....)

Honestly, I didn't realise there was meant to be a love triangle until people were "ITS TOTES A LOVE TRIANGLE'

So...I guess if I tilt my head...but...idk, she wasn't exactly in a relationship with either, they both backed off to give her space as she thought about it, they had a convo where they decided to let her try.

I guess I didn't see the love triangle since the "love" itself was generally just confused feelings and PTSD dependance (IMO obvs)

I'm sorry OP, but depending on where you go - the fandom is filled with shippers.

I'm normally okay with shipping, but I really didn't notice it in the books or movie. Since I didn't care for either of the guys, my solution has been to not lurk in fandom (tumblr, LJ and Da being my places)

Of them, when I do check, LJ seems your best bet and just ignore the shipping threads.

This. Not OP, but I really disliked the epilogue. I don't like books laying out a timeline of what happens after and not letting me ponder myself.

But it made sense.

I just didn't like it hah.

heh I love your description of yourself, it reminds me of me! It took me a few years, but I've realised that the number of hours I put into my appearance is a choice I make daily, and other people make other choices, and it's a waste of time to angst about it.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
Because it's true- at least on tumblr, where SJWs run rampant: no matter how good your reasons are for disliking a female character because of her characters traits or actions, you're automatically a misogynist asshole.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
God, me too. Basically I can't help but be turned on by every moment he's there... but especially this.

[personal profile] quinnzel 2012-08-01 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
Are you joking? The entire fandom obsessed over his mannerisms when the movie came out. 8|

Re: How old were you when you first read/watched porn?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, maybe 12 or 13 for some soft-core shippy stuff, probably from Sailor Moon fandom. There were a few things I read there that were lost in the First Great Purge when ff.net got rid of the mature content, but nothing very explicit. Most of my first exposure to actual explicit erotica was from the late great pornishpixies when I was 14 or so. Our family only had one computer with internet, so I would c&p fics into a word file called "pirates" which I kept on a floppy disc, and then delete our browser history and cache. I would secretly read the fic later on my old hand-me-down PC in my own room!

Re: question dealing with topic of suicide

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
ffff don't worry about it. I totally hear you on the further-incentives-to-not-have-babies; my family is shot through with physical and mental disorders, and I got interested in the whole hereditary mental illness/bereavement trauma thing because my sister developed depression after our mother died of a platelet disorder, and I'm pretty sure (looking back at her behaviour) my mother was an undiagnosed depressive too. there see I overshared too.

...huh, not sure why it logged me out; the above comment is from me.

First part? It really depends on the person... some of us are (admittedly) a bit shallow. It absolutely matters to me that I find my significant other attractive as well as interesting and romantically compatible. Can't have one without the other and it's not worth settling to me.

I definitely agree with your tips though. You have to put the effort in to actually find somebody.

[personal profile] ginainthekingsroad 2012-08-01 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
I lurked for Lexicongate, some of the Amanda Palmer vs Disabled Feminists thing, and the ONTD/Eli Roth thing. But I was involved in a bunch of anon Doctor Who/Torchwood wanks when who_anon was big! I don't know how many of them made it over to fandom wank. The Torchtanic wank, torch_wood gets banned, Sinkgate, a fuckton of Rose vs Martha wanks ("batshit!" "ninjas!"), aaand MelindaKitty vs Teaspoon.

I was a wank_report mousie on a couple of torchtanic updates. That shit was hilarious.

You must be extremely easygoing. I really stress extremely there. You have no idea. I view it this way. If I make an effort to impress, look good, and take care of myself, then he damn well better too. A guy with nice fitting clothes who is clean and turns on the charm has my vote over the guy that just doesn't give a fuck. Seriously, how low are your standards, anon?

I also use the disposable Instead Soft Cups and recommend them. I think I'm a little small, so they don't always fit 100% for me but it's better than tampons and pads. I want to look into reusable ones, but for the time being, yes cups get a thumbs up from me.

I don't get my hair cut every six weeks. No one I know gets their hair cut every six weeks. I'm lucky if I get my hair cut every six months, because I don't have the money for shit like that. Nice classism, what with your assuming everyone can afford the level of cosmetic perfection you think we should all aspire to. And by "we" I mean "women" because your shit is also sexist as hell.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
Never seen male strippers IRL, but if it's just grabbing your cock and thrusting (which is pretty much everyone except Channing Tatum in this film) I'll save my money and go to a club on a Friday night.

Also, me and my friends came out wanting them to have made more of the whole economic crisis they touch on in one scene. It's a stupidly-made film where they decided they needed DRAMA and so threw in all of the cliches they could think of (attack by clients, drug dealing, overdose, economic issues, gang members) but ONLY IN ONE SCENE EACH.

One thing I'd like to add to the whole debate: Guys (or girls) who won't give you a second look because you don't look like a Sports Illustrated model? They're not worth your time. Not by a LONG shot. There are plenty of people out there who literally do not give a flying fuck about what you look like. And there are even *more* who are attracted to something completely different from the norm.

Attractive is a VERY subjective thing. To take a personal example, my boyfriend is NOWHERE near conventionally handsome. I couldn't tell you whether he'd conventionally be considered "ugly" or not (I don't believe so, but then again I'm not very objective.) And yet, god DAMN is he hot to me. And that works for females too - I had a girlfriend in the past that was quite a bit overweight, and yet to me she was the hottest thing on earth! Sure, we've been taught since we were little that we should be attracted to models, but that's nowhere near the human experience

One last thing, OP - are you really sure that a relationship would make you feel happier? It looks to me like you think that being in a relationship with someone would make you feel better about yourself, but honestly, that's not really how it works. I dated very little when I was a teenager, and looking at my friends in high school and college who got out of a relationship just to get into another... I don't think they were much happier than I was, even if they criticised me because I just wasn't interested in dating. If anything they looked perpetually unhappy about their relationship and kept complaining all the time.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
So did anybody besides me not actually know that she was in a forrealz relationship with RPatts? I thought that was something manufactured by the Twilight marketing team.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad someone else said this. I'm still pretty devoted to this idea tbqh.

Pretty sure it was the sleepovers they were having during New Moon that pretty much implied that she was cheating.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Me too for some reason, don't know why. I find myself siding with her and feeling really bad for her. I think it's because I know what it's like to make a mistake and seriously recognize you made a mistake and feel shameful for it.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
Lol this is a fandom? I saw them at the San Diego Zoo and thought they looked interesting but sounded pretty horrible.
