MLP is one of those shows where i act like a fandom of one. i watch it, i love it, and i stay the hell away from the fandom so it won't ruin my enjoyment of it.

I honestly wouldn't care so much about pony porn if the fans were more discreet about it.

Really, they can make wallpapers of fanart depicting group sex of all the characters bathing in excrement for all I care, as long as they keep it behind screens.

I'm tired of finding porn in image searches for, say "Twilight Sparkle" on Google with the highest Safe Search filter on.

I'm tiring of finding nuggets like that one fan in deviantART who sent Lauren Faust porn fanart of her own ponified persona and got incensed when she said it was gross (what were they expecting? "oh, this cartoon porn pic depicting me is totally cool, keep sending me more!".

Some of these fans don't understand of personal boundaries, discretion and privacy, and that's frustrating as all get out.

(This reminds me of the person who sent Tom Sidell a manip of a comic panel of Annie, who was originally coughing and blushing in the comic, engaging in sexual acts. Annie is like thirteen years old.)

OP, I swear there are sane fans (I am one, I would know. :P). The trick is to find people you like/get along with who happen to like FiM, not people who dedicate 100% of their internet time to it and have "liking FiM/being a brony" as their identity.

Like others said, there are groups like this in the big fandoms, and in this case they're so vocal it feels like it's all the fans, but I promise you it's not.

I would suggest avoiding sites like Equestria Daily or just checking them up from time to time and just the tags for topics you're interested in (like, news, for example, and avoiding the comments or other "aren't we so cool" smug commentary.

Ugh..this is the WORST. Few things I cant stand more than BNF's exploiting their perceived privilege in their fandom (ie cutting in line at SDCC to buy the D#rpyHooves exclusive, or cutting in line for autographs @ Everfree).

You can fandom with me, OP. I just started seriously watching this show and have -what I think is- a fabulous idea for an Appledash fic, but I'm pretty scared to dive into the fandom as a whole ~_~

Quite frankly, from what I've seen so far, the fic is mediocre and fic is where I get really involved in a fandom :C

MLP is one of those shows where I just don't involve myself with the fandom, there are a lot of nice fans of the show but I don't feel the need to get heavily involved. The most interaction I've had is drawing a fanart once and being on Equestria Daily, which I didn't even know was a thing.

All large fandoms have a "bad crowd", you just need to figure out how much you want to be in the fandom, if it's not worth it then just enjoy the show on your own, no need to be part of the fandom.

Idk, I'm mostly a fandom of me and my best friend and her boyfriend and occasionally my little brother, so I understand how you feel. I'm too frightened to really look at anything fandom related that's not modded by the folks at "My Little Brony" on memebase. The brony fandom is massive, and most of it is. . .terrifying and rude. They don't hide or tag their porn or swearing or gore, and it's very annoying that I can't even safe search names of ponies or go to the My Little Pony tag on tumblr without finding shitloads of porn.

I don't watch MLP, but I edit for someone who writes fic for it, so I spend a fair amount of time on Fimfiction. I gotta say, I'm not seeing a lot of this crap that everyone says they see from the MLP fans. In fact, with one exception, I've seen much less of bronies behaving badly than I have of bronies posting crossover fics on other sites and massive numbers of commenters flipping out at the "bestiality perverts".(There is the porn, sure, but there's very little overlap between the porny section of Fimfiction and the rest of Fimfiction, barring the occasional Mature-rated parody fic that gets featured.)

(The one exception is the elevation of teenage!Spike to a sex god who reduces every female pony to drooling. This shows up a lot even in fics that aren't marked mature and don't have explicit sex scenes, and I'm starting to lose my patience with it. Still, it's not the only way Spike's approached, particularly when he's not the main character of the fic.)

I love the show, and I've made some great friends through the fandom. But the warring factions of the hardcore bronies and the SJWs make it a very scary place to be.

I recommend FIMFiction's chat room. Everyone there is really nice, and while there is the occasional disagreement, nothing ever really explodes. Just... maybe keep the SJ Warrioring and serious business brony identification to a minimum while you're there, especially the SJ stuff. The mod doesn't take too kindly to it and he'll kick you without a second thought.

Agreeing with everyone who is unamused at you lumping porn in with actual bad behavior. Personally I'm pretty squicked by MLP porn unless it's humanized stuff, myself, but kink shaming is stupid, as is expecting adult fans of a children's show to consider it too sacred to make porn of. Kids shouldn't be on the internet without a parent's supervision or parental controls on the computer.

As for the rest of the secret, this is how it is with big fandoms. I'm a Hetalia fan, too, and needless to say I pretty often want to bang my head on my desk over that fandom's bullshit. But there are good fans, too. My policy is pretty much to make friends with the good fans and ignore the rest. Try that. It really does help.

I'll say this in regards to other comments in the thread, and not so much the secret itself. I'm so fucking tired of all this PC garbage about what children should and shouldn't be allowed to see. Stop acting like porn and fetishes are such awful awful things. You can't shield their eyes forever. How about you sit your kid down and talk to them for a few minutes about what sex is and what porn is. When you put barriers around sex, drugs, and certain words, you only provoke further curiosity which leads to kids being very misinformed about what these things actually are.
