I think cisblood was *supposed* to be aimed at all that 'transethnic' bullshit, rather than actual transgendered people, but it's not like you can actually clarify that in the text, so it still looks...a little potentially side-eye worthy.

Porrim's total comparative sanity, even though (and partly because) she had her own particular issues that she focused on definitely helped, imo.

Oh you are totally right! I spaced and was thinking Mexico was in CA. That's just embarrassing. Don't you hate it when you know you know something but still say the wrong thing? (Also, I know they're in South America as well, which I didn't say...ugh, that's a mess of a comment up there.)

I'd love to see one in the wild - they seem like such cool creatures!

Operation Puppies is a go.

DA

It's certainly not "high literature" or anything, but it reads to me like a teenage boy writing down his life, and that's pretty much what it is, so I enjoyed it.

That was my progression, too! I still have a soft spot for them from the first anime, but in the manga the 'ship pretty much died after Riza's freak-out/mental breakdown.

It's hard to introduce new fandoms to someone who doesn't know them. For me, it's extra worse because the fandom I'm in is freakin' Touhou Project. Just trying to convince people that it isn't a loli game but a bullet hell shooter is bad enough. Trying to convince them to play after they saw the YouTube video replays are WORSE.

Still, don't give up OP. I'm currently reading Homestuck (now at the Jade Harley intro) so consider me an introduced person! And no, I won't judge the fandom. If there's one thing Touhou has taught me, it's that fans can do AMAZING stuff when they're devoted. So keep spreading the word, OP!

Okay but ... why? If you don't really care about the characters and are indifferent to the "type" (whatever that's referring to), then why? Why does this pairing in particular push you over into "squick"?

this is a fascinating story. Sucky that it happened to you, but fascinating.

Q! Did the students end up going on to the schools they wanted? Or at the least, did their marks not suffer too much?

[personal profile] dragonimp 2012-09-09 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't confirmed. In fact it was pretty clear that they weren't "together" at the end. I think that's actually why it got the surge in popularity, people are putting in the happy ending they wanted but didn't get.

Rory is practically a nice guy, guilt tripping Amy for 'not loving him as much as she does.' He also comes across as Moffat's wish fulfillment character. OMG HE'S SO BADASS WOW... despite like no buildup to it, and the Doctor seems to respect and trust him more than he does Amy, which really grinds my gears.

I honestly can't stand him.

I don't dislike Amy, in fact, I rather feel very bad for her. The series is constantly stripping away any autonomy she may have and just plain refusing to allow her to grow.

As a couple I'm really not a fan of them. TBH I want Amy far away from both Rory and Eleven.

Prometheus. How do you start with an idea that fab and end with a movie that mediocre?

Friends, "friendzoning," boyfriend problems

(Anonymous) 2012-09-09 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Hey F!S. I... have a problem. I have friends who are girls--but they're friends I made when I was much, much younger (middle school or earlier) and have kept. I have no recent girl friends and for some reason girls don't seem to keen on me.

I've been really lonely since I started college since I hadn't been able to make any new friends. I just transferred this year and suddenly I'm getting a fair amount of attention from guys who want to hang out with me presumably only to hit on me. At first I think "oh good, I've made a friend maybe! Finally!" But then they keep hitting on me even after I try to be politely dismissive. The problem is... even though I have a boyfriend (long distance), I'm so fucking lonely that I don't tell anyone I have a boyfriend simply because I'm really afraid I'll lose their company and be all alone again. I feel like a horrible person... I'm sure the cat will come out of the bag at some point, but I'm hoping that by that point they'll have decided they like me as a person/as a friend, and they don't care enough that I have a boyfriend that they'll stop hanging out with me. I certainly don't encourage their flirting or flirt back, and I would never cheat on my boyfriend, but I feel like such a fucking loser that this is the only way I can make "friends." I just feel so pathetic. Am I still leading them on if I try to turn down their flirts? Am I being a bad girlfriend by not telling them about my boyfriend?

No problem! It has happened to me as well. :)

I loved them when I saw them playing and exploring. I remember watching their caretaker in the zoo having to take special measures to avoid any escape or them playing games with him, as they are extremely intelligent animals! I once read in a South-American short story about how they are kept as pets there (I wonder if that's true or not), wich made me want to have one!

The Conan: The Barbarian remake. They had everything necessary to make a fun, if not clever, sword-and-sorcery movie, except for a coherent script. It was just...why would a movie that looked so slick with such likeable actors have such awful writing? Wouldn't that be the cheapest part to achieve?

Then again, $200 million dollar Avatar clearly spent five bucks on the story, so. Apparently it's a thing.

Also, every werewolf movie, ever.

Scrolled up to read your thoughts, and YES! on everything you wrote. I really want Jane/Grayson to happen, but this season's pissed me off and makes me want to drop the show. The handling of Jane/Grayson this season has been really bad. Last season was...a bit odd, but I was willing to go with it. This season though? I don't know. I was mostly frustrated. I also miss Fred. I hate Luke.

Man, DH was the biggest bummer ever (although I actually didn't mind the epilogue). It seemed like JKR really wanted to do something awesome and epic, but she just couldn't manage to get it right and went "okay whatever" during one of the preliminary drafts instead of figuring out how to do it properly. The buildup from HBP was amazing, but the payoff made it turn into pretty much the definition of that Expectations, Reality meme.

In fact I need an Expectations, Reality gif. *hunts around in tumblr folder of bookmarks*
