Re: Have you ever been really excited for something

Yes, the last season of LOST. The writers had been going on and on about how the mysteries would be answered and that if you pay attention the clues were there. Then season six came and the writers went, "Mysteries? What mysteries? LOST has always been about the characters. The mysteries don't matter." And the wrote the ending not even as such. They just killed characters randomly or changed their personality 180 and made it about that Jack and Kate with a few instances of Hurley. (Hurley became nothing more than comedy relief.)

Loved LOST seasons 1-5 and half. The rest can go jump into a lake.

When it's revealed that two characters in love or having an awesome friendship have met before when they were kids. Bonus points if they mysteriously forgot about it until they meet again. I guess this works too if they met in a past life/another dimension.

Not OP

Doubt it. From what I hear, Grimm fandom is uniquely...like this.

lol I was just about to order a 3ds too.

Damn, wonder if the new version is worth it :|

I agree with this completely, I see a lot of potential in Grimm for some great fic ideas, but everyone just seems way preoccupied with Nick having sex with Monroe or Renard... or Barry/Roddy which, wtf, they were in one episode each and never met, I am constantly mystified by how popular it is.
It's the way of fandom, I know, but it doesn't stop me from wishing it was different. Doesn't help that this is apparently the ONE fandom I've been in where exactly zero of the slash ships interest me. Give me something with Juliette or Adalind (or both) any day.
And yes, I could just write it myself, but I'd kind of like to read some stuff I didn't write.
Also in the face of the last comment I'd like to say that no, OP, it's not just you that likes Nick, I adore him.

I feel like most of the bigger fandoms do have this sort of fic. Probably some of the smaller ones too; HP is popular, yo. I know in the X-Men: First Class fandom there are at least four or five of these, and that was months ago (so there might be even more now, idk). But yea...they exist, I guess you're just looking in the wrong places?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-08 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, I do like Rory... even if he is a total sap (he tends to say some really sarcastic/amusing things that just make me love him).

Amy though? Not a fan. Never really have been. Even though I wanted to.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-08 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I am this way, especially since the first fandom I was active in was like 99% female.

American animals and a very familiar spider!

[personal profile] joltymcjolterson 2012-09-08 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
North American animals today! And boy, not going on and on forever was a bit tricky. Here are some cute animals that are from the continent now. As it's America, not all these animals might actually be native- some are found in other countries, some immigrated over. Still, they all can be found there today. (Though perhaps not easily found, in some cases.)

coyote

medow jumping mouse

little pocket mouse

pocket gopher

kangaroo rat

ground squirrel

meadow vole

big-eared woodrat

jackrabbit

white-nosed coati

bobcat

prarie dogpile

And a spider too!

Here it is:

I'm sure a lot of people have seen this pic before. Now you can find out its name! This is Phidippus mystaceus, and if that sounds a lot like moustache, well, that's why it's the moustache jumping spider. This one here is an adult female, and she's got a pretty interesting expression on, and the two below are both boys. Fun to look at, aren't they? THe adult females are only about a centimeter or so in length, so you can probably see a good deal of the detail that they display if you're looking closely.

Shocking nobody... this was my favorite moment.

Kankri was introduced in a tumblr parody. Of course this type needed to be brought up!

If I was interested in the show, I'll watch it. For example, I've already watched Elementary even though it's not going to air for another twenty days.

Re: Shitty movie with good premise

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2012-09-08 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
So many low budget sci-fis. Especially if the producer is the director and writer and editor (and sometimes actor and composer, etc.). You've got a great or decent idea, you finally have the money and equipment and right people together and you want to slap all your ideas on screen all at once because who knows when you'll get another chance. Things get messy and convuluted because they tend not to get the heavy editing they need.

As for other movies? I wish the film adaptation of Priest have been written better. (I never read the graphic novel.) It was just starting to get interesting and the bam. The end.

Chronicles of Riddick: I looooove the character of Riddick, wished the movie would have different. I hated what they did with Jack.

Babylon AD: Again, I like the character Vin Deisel plays; I like the dystopian thing. Thought the majority of the plot was half-assed at best.

Book of Eli: Oh, man. It was like my dream of a Fallout-type movie had come true. The setting and characters were great. But what the hell was with the weird ending? There were parts I would have changed, definitely.

There are a lot more I can't think of right now.

oh, i'm totally drawn to redemption scenarios. which is why i get so angry when the redeemed character gets mercilessly killed off.

Perhaps it's best you watched some episodes so you can make up your own mind.

I'm not following you. I don't personally ship them but only because I really like their consensually unequal friendship (he's her commander, she's his faithful second), and because I'm pretty much sated for un-fucked up het by canon shows and books. But I'm not squicked by them. I'm just kind of meh at the thought of their romance.

Unless you really dislike boss/underling because of the power dynamics inherent in that, I'm not really seeing what is squick worthy.

I remember reading a good breakdown of the matter on Tumblr shortly after the walkaround came out, that it's not really a criticism of the social justice movement so much as it is of the part of it that is only in it to look superior to other people. He is Saviour Complex: The Character. Appropriately enough, given his A2 incarnation.
brightblueink: The gremlins from Welcome to the NHK laughing menacingly. (It's a conspiracy!)

Joining in the "they exist!" crowd. There's at least one RP on DW that has this as its premise. [community profile] sortinghat_rp
