Secret #4, meet Secret #10. Have fun, you two. XD

16. COME TO [livejournal.com profile] boozebenders! WE HAVE BOOOOOZE. And (generally) sane, adult fans. :-)

18. Meh. If you love it that much, it won't kill you to buy it. (I do understand your position, though, but Shakespeare got to get paid, you know what I'm saying?)

(Anonymous) 2007-08-09 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
re 18: Oh I support the author's...I just buy the Japanese versions from Kinokuniya, and not the English. I don't care if it's people like me who cause these American companies to lose money. I hate the way they censor the illustrations and script just so they can sell their shit in Walmart. Also, I have a basic understanding of Japanese, but the harder ones like Monster or Emma are over my head (and I'm lazy and find it easier to read the scanlation than translate kanji by kanji myself). :P

What I really hate though is how popular shounen series like Bleach, Naruto, Eyeshield 21, &etc have enough interest behind them that no matter if one group decides to suddenly acquire a conscience, some other group will continue to pirate it. I mean, the MINUTE Emma got licensed, the group that was translating it stopped all work and took down everything. If it were Naruto that would never happen. =/

1 - Damn it, now I want to finish watching Red vs Blue. I never did and always regretted it a bit.

12 - ...I am totally guilty of coming up with hair-brained theories because I can't stand Mai. But the explosion of disgruntled Zutara fans was still hilarious.

16 - Avatar is AMAZING. One of the reasons I like it is because it's a kid's show, and is full of dorky fun. Anybody who doesn't try this show out because they think it's weeaboo or for kids is dumb.

because RACISM
haha ohlol god i hope not :c
i dont even watch scrubs more than once a month or so and i love this pairing(the musical was amazing). i do not understand why there's none of it around. a character being married never stopped anyone before, right..?

(Anonymous) 2007-08-09 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Hi! I'm the OP :) I was actually thinking that, but I've been hoping that wasn't that case. I'm a bit too optimistic about fandom, and thought if someone didn't like a character for nationality, they wouldn't watch the show. But who knows? And knowing how rampant FMA slash fic with Maes Hughes aka World's Most Devoted Husband and Father is, I don't think it's marriage stopping the fans.

5. There will be always people that hate your pairings. Always. And it sucks. But I know how that sort of guilt goes.

8. Also something I sadly understand.

16. Whut?! The fandom of that's scary big. I'm stunned you can't find someone.

[identity profile] gaignun.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
14) Kira/Cagalli is ♥, I like them too. :D (they are one of two incest pairings I ship since I'm kind of in the same-ish boat as you there, opinion-wise. XD)

[identity profile] runic-binary.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
5. Aww, don't be scared to write for crazy pairings! I do it all the time. It's fun. :D

20. It's not sad. Anything that keeps you from killing yourself is a good thing, even if it's a TV show or a comic book or whatever.

Isn't JD/Turk canon? At least in the past?
No, seriously - they keep alluding to Incidents They Won't Speak Of Any More.

oh god why do i know this

Re: 19

(Anonymous) 2007-08-09 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Hi, I'm the OP :) I've always thought it may as well be canon, with all of the comments about how couple-y they are. And it's okay, I know all of it too! xD

[identity profile] greeneyedlady.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
5. Don't be afraid to post. A lot of people in my fandom think my OTP is perverse, too. Luckily I have found a couple of great friends who like it just as much, and only one person has ever made a rude comment about the pairing in any of my fanfiction. Almost every pairing has an audience who will appreciate it.

[identity profile] shattterheart.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
1. I know. D: I heard it's not DONE. and they're gonna do more once Halo 3 comes out? Rumors???

2. I hate High School Musical, but what I watched, I didn't like them together. They broke up in real life and now Zac Efron is going out with Nikki Blonsky and I think they're ADORABLE together. :3

4. I don't like Anthy. Nanami FTW.

9. I totally agree.

18. I've heard good things about that series, but I know how you feel about series getting licensed. I get really mad too.

(Anonymous) 2007-08-09 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the OP for #2. Is he really dating Nikki Blonsky? Yay! ^^ I thought that Link and Tracy were a much cuter couple than Troy and Gabriella, and that the actors for my prefered pairing are now dating is really cute! :)

Not sad, not sad at all. That fandom was my pride and joy a couple of years ago, and looking at that picture still embodies everything wonderful and amazing about Eichiiro Oda's brilliant manga.

I can easily see how a resoundingly hopeful, inspiring series like One Piece can pull someone up.

Thank you for sharing. <3

#16, It doesn't matter to me whether it's American, French, Japanese, Korean, or whatever. If it's a good show, I like it. Avatar is one of the best series that has come out on cable recently that I actually WANT to watch.

#18: Totally understand the sentiment. Emma the manga was so awesome (the bangaihen chapters are also SO KYOOT)

(Anonymous) 2007-08-09 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
12. You have no idea how hard I laughed when I saw that. I knew the batshit shippers were gonna freak and would provide much lulz.

...Unfortunately, most of my best friends don't watch A:TLA and don't ever plan to. I had no one to share the lulz with except one person. :( I'm too shy to post in the comms for the show.

16. When I first saw A:TLA come out, that's exactly what I thought of it... That it was a pathetic attempt by Americans to get in on the cash cow anime band-wagon. Especially considering the piss-poor quality of most of Nick's shows.

I saw a marathon of A:TLA on one day, marathon of the first season, and I thought it was great. And I was shocked by how good it was. Wish I had given it a chance much sooner. Nick and Nick Toons TV almost NEVER show season 2 episodes.

re 19: I have this idea for a JD/Turk/Carla OT3 epic thingy that I don't seem to have the attention span to actually write... I'm pretty sure [livejournal.com profile] veevega is right and it is racism that stops people from writing JD/Turk. Maybe I should blog about that for [livejournal.com profile] ibarw...

[identity profile] comic-heroine.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
18: Just to remind people of supply and demand. If you don't buy the translation regardless of "censorship" as well, they can just as easily drop the series altogether, therefore making manga hard to get ahold of again.

Back when I was in High School, they only had Fushigi Yuugi, Randma, and a few other titles by Clamp. MANGA USED TO TAKE UP HALF A SHELF, PEOPLE.

So think this way:
Don't buy the english----English Series is dropped----repeat with other series----Multiple English series are dropped----no more "manga" trend and your fandom reverts to the stone age of contacts or websites.

I for one get both english and japanese books. Why? To let the companies that I do want this translated because I like having hard copies in english to read when I don't have a computer around, thankyouverymuch. Books don't use batteries.

tl;dr i know lol

(Anonymous) 2007-08-18 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, see I don't care if English series are dropped by American companies. Why? Because all the stuff they pick up has more often than not already been scanlated by some online group. If the series is popular enough (like, for example, most anything in Shounen Jump), illegal scanlations will continue to be made regardless of whether or not an American company continues to publish a certain series. What pisses me off, is that some of these groups drop series completely when a series gets licensed. It may not even come out for another year or more and then have five volumes to be published before it catches up with the scanlators...that's at least another year wait right there!

It was illegal when they began scanning and translating the series in the first place, just because it gets licensed in the U.S. doesn't make it any less illegal. They say their hope is to get people into the series so that when it IS licensed they go out and buy the book, but I honestly doubt that whether or not they drop it has any effect on who will and who won't. People who download illegal media usually decide whether they will or not based on how much they want to support the artist. Like me? I buy all the Japanese versions, even though I get it for free in English online. Books don't use batteries, you are quite correct. And I enjoy having the originals in my hands, not some poorly edited, cheaply made book. Ever wondered why American mangas are bigger in format and don't have dust jackets? ;P

But then...I live near a Japanese bookstore which I know is something not a lot of people have access to in the states. Borders and B&E sell Japanese versions of certain titles now, but they're even more retardedly expensive than the English! $12.00 when you can get it at Kino for $5.50. It's a rip off.

P.S. Fandom will NEVER revert to the "stone age." Get a fucking clue. The internet isn't what is was back in the early 90s. Today's internet has made illegal media piracy EASY. Whether American manga companies live or die will not stop people from subtitling anime or scanlating manga or uploading any number of illegal CD/DVD/theatre/software rips. One site may get shut down yeah, but ten more will pop up to take it's place.

10. Lots of Indian secrets tonight.

SENSEI, DID YOU POST ONE?

[identity profile] samuraiter.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
1.) Rest in peace, RVB. I did not follow it to the end, but I like to pull up the Quick Time version of the first episode for the whole "Y'ever really wonder why we're here?" dialogue.

4.) Movie Anthy is attractive, yes. (I prefer TV Anthy, personally; must be the glasses.) Indian women in general don't get enough props. It's a shame. One of the gals I adored most in the world was Bengali.

6.) Now you've got me thinking of the episode where pink hair grows on everything for no reason.

8.) (I miss my IRC RP friends from the late 1990s like this.)

10.) Hey, I'm all about fans from other countries! It's good to hear that there are other folks out there who are into this crazy Japanese stuff that's taking over large swaths of America's youth ... and, er, old men like myself.

14.) I shipped 'em 'til I found out they were related. -_- I think the creators did that just to mess with us, I swear.

15.) He's got 'the aura', doesn't he?

16.) It gets lumped under Amerime no matter where it's done, unfortunately. That's not what scares me off Avatar, though. The fan feuding is.

18.) Ah, the price of that legal gray area between 'here' and 'not quite here yet'.

20.) You're alive. Nothing sad about that. :-)
