I'm just only active in small bursts, so I end up not talking to anyone for weeks, then talking to EVERYONE for like two days.

EITHER WAY I AM HEADING OVER TO THIS FRIENDING MEME.

my hate has gone from 100% to 110%

good job

(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
God, yes. This. I hate it so much. Unless it gets so bad it loops back around to being funny again. Like when you get Sam Winchester being called 'the blue-eyed moose'...

Haha, I have to admit, when I was watching the VP debate the other night I couldn't help but think "Oh, I didn't realize Ryan was so handsome." I think Obama's really good looking, too. (He's also one of the most autotune-able politicians right now.)

I don't think it's a big deal to acknowledge someone's attractive, as long as you don't make that the reason you're voting for them. Just try to keep the issues you care about in mind and do your research and I think you'll be fine.

"They're public figures, that's part of their job."

Err, no.
Not all countries elect their politicians according to how white their teeth are.

I have work I need to get done so I'm worried I won't be able to make it--but this looks hilarious so I really want to try! (And if not, I'll try to check it out next week--this looks like so much fun!

Wait, wasn't there an episode of The Weekenders like this? Am I going crazy or did this actually happen to both shows? D:

(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
OP

Not in my experience. There's people there I like, and there are some fun posts, but I'm finding those kind of comments more and more prevalent. It doesn't even have to be a wanky post.

Don't worry, I'm a biologist and do a lot of dissections, a lot of the times when I see people or animals, I see their skeletons and muscles at work

(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just a nasty place. I only go to check up on Hobbit news (which stays largely full of squee, and no wank).

Ontd regulars are bitter, empty people. Best to leave them be.

Yay :) We have so many of these "I was inspired by this" but I always love seeing them.

I'm not into this fandom, but I'm confused. How can you call somebody a "moose"? Moose=elk, right? So... Well, unless it's his nickname or something. It sounds immensely silly though :D

Re: Fandoms popping up overnight

[personal profile] brightblueink 2012-10-13 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I'm not sure about that. I remember talking in message boards about LOTR before the first movie was even out, and I was able to find a Tolkien-focused fan group on Yahoo! that was really active pretty soon after the movie came out.

I do feel like I'm seeing more fandoms start BEFORE a thing is out, though. Like Miraculous Ladybug already getting a fandom after a trailer for it was uploaded, or people getting into Elementary once the show was announced and tracking down a leaked version of the pilot before it even aired.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it might be regional. My family (2nd gen Italian on one side and 4th&8th gen American on the other) says "tuck in!" all the time when food's served, and "bloody hell" is definitely in me and my friends' vocabularies. Given the Potter phenome I wouldn't be at all surprised if the up-and-coming 20-somethings have quite a bit of Brit-slang, too.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Err, yes. The United States does. And they're US politicians. Therefore, they are public figures and that's part of their job. Nothing was said about other nations or their politicians.

God yes. Preach.

And non-fic authors do it too. I mean, I love Tamora Pierce, but sometimes I wanted to whip out and red pen and just cross those fucking stupid pronoun-substituting descriptors out (especially the age-related ones. Who the fuck refers to someone as "the fourteen-year-old"?) And I remember not being able to give Rowling shit for her five billion adverbs and adjectives because she had the ability to write action and dialogue in 3rd person omniscient prose with nary a descriptor in sight.

I don't think fandoms have the same staying power as they once did. I mean, there are still people writing Highlander fics, but I can't see Teen Wolf or whatever still being an active fandom in ten years time.

Yeah, that's such a bummer to me. :( I tend to be really behind on stuff, but it used to be that I could still find at least a small, active fan community a few years after something aired. Nowadays it seems like people jump from one fandom to the next based on whatever's just recently come out, and sort of abandon the older things.

lmao, (although I don't think I'm quite that bad) I totes agree with this. Prove those people wrong, OP! SHOW THEM YOU CAN DO IT!

Plus, you'll enjoy life so much more if you do what makes you happy, so I hope you take the chance! Good luck.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Why do you need a film? It's a perfectly good book on its own. And any adaptation would probably suck.

You can't help who you find attractive OP.

For me his views make him incredibly ugly to me. Taking a close look at him, if he wasn't a terrifying, massive douche I might consider him average.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it also works with relationships -- "his brother", "her cousin", "his partner", etc.
