I don't agree. Child porn is illegal to protect the real, live minors that would be hurt or exploited by it. These are fictional minors. They cannot be hurt or exploited. They have to rights.

Saying drawings of child porn is illegal because child porn is illegal is like saying drawings of murder should be illegal because murder is illegal. Drawings, unless directed at someone else with the intent to be hateful, don't hurt anyone.

Before anyone asks, no, I don't like 'shota'.

Also, I must add in that the age of consent in the US just baffles me. 18? What? Teens have been having sex and heck even getting married since ancient times. Where I live, it's 14, and I think that is perfectly reasonable. Heck, even 16, though I think even that's a little high, would be better.

Also, I think that a lot of teens in anime series look old enough that liking them doesn't make you a pedo. Example, Kabuto from Naruto is 19 at the start of the series, but doesn't look that much older than another character, Sasuke, who is underage. I don't think liking Sasuke makes you ayn more of a 'pedo' than liking Kabuto would, but that's just me.

color me confused. how is pulling down fictional character images protecting children?

before you answer, think about my question. how is pulling down fictional drawings of fictional characters that are of dubious age to begin with, protecting honest-to-god living children?

LJ has the right to do what they want. most people aren't arguing that, so get your facts straight, people. they are arguing that LJ isn't being consistent in enforcing their nebulous rules and that their rules aren't very clear until after an infraction has occurred, then the shit storm happens.

if you object to Harry Potter character images, object to Naruto, Prince of Tennis, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gundam Wing (and some of the other Gundam franchises) some Weiss Kreuz, Wincest (when the brothers are young), Petrellicest (when the brothers are young or Peter/Claire-she's sixteen, you know), Avatar The Last Airbender, the list goes on. don't stop with just one image in one fandom, object to it all.

let's not forget the latest from LJ, since they are changing their mind -again-. now, not only are you not allowed to have objectionable material on your LJ unlocked, if it's locked and someone complains, you're suspended. better, if you LINK to something objectionable, you are suspended. so make sure to get those complaints in early!

mind the little red button, tho'. if you report someone, make sure your ducksa are in a row because the law of averages says you'll likely get reported for something too. also, make sure of what you report because LJ takes a dim view of grudgereporting.

I don't think anyone is really complaining about child porn, more of the fact that suddently anyone under 18 is classified as a child, which is rediculous. A 9 year old having sex with a 10 year old != two 17 years old having sex. Underage doesn't automatically mean pedo.

18. I don't know if "overrated" is the right word. "Overhyped", I suppose, but saying CLAMP is overrated is sort of like saying The Beatles were/are overrated. Whether you like their stuff or not, you can't say they haven't had an impact on manga. The amount of genres they have incorporated is impressive, their staying power and their ability to reinvent themselves as often as they have deserve some admiration. I don't particularly like Reiji Matsumoto, John Grisham or J.R.R. Tolkien's works, but I would never say they were overrated. Each of them has contributed something significant to their field. Paris Hilton aside, popularity doesn't exist in a vacuum. They're well-known and admired for a reason.

7. I don't really care one way or the other and I haven't paid much attention to it, but from what I have been noticed is 6A's continual lack of good PR and damage control. I could link you to an entire series of comments I left them a year ago for this kind of thing, but that'd just be more trouble than it's worth. Yes, they need to be fucking clear about their TOS and what they tell people, and I think it's retarded how they're going about this AGAIN. But in essence, it's their site, they can do what they want.

18. I loved their older stuff, like MKR, RGVeda, CCS, but pretty much everything after Wish? I didn't care much for. It was incredibly hard to feel anything for the characters in Tsubasa since you've already seen them in other series, and something about xxxHolic I just can't get into.

7. Pedophiles will and do jerk off to normal pictures of children. Pedophiles get off on real children, not fake ones (and especially not fake ones who look like adults). Does this mean that any picture with a child in it should be banned from LJ? No. It means banning actual pedophiles from LJ and LJ staff not using the excuse "BUT IT'S NOT AGAINST THE TOS!!!!!!!" when attempts to get them off are made.

12. Considering Himawari and Kohane also make comments on them, yes fans would continue to ship them even if Yuuko wasn't a character. What do you expect when three characters canonly make comments on them? Of course that pairing would develop a lot of fans! If slashing male characters together bugs you, don't read CLAMP; they're yaoi fans themselves after-all.

First off, it's good to see some people actually agree. I was beginning to think I was going go go crazy from all the "We're packin' up our blogs and leavin!"

Second, I think it's hilarious that from my one singular secret post people were like "Oh yeah, well you like violence! What about censoring that!??!" Um, thanks, didn't mention that. If you're replying to someone else, sorry, but I thought I read every comment about 7. I also like the implication that I don't like Harry Potter Pedo but I loves the anime Pedo. Thanks. Didn't mention that either. But now that you mention it, I don't like any of it.

As for fictional characters don't get hurt, no shit. I never said that fictional beings made of ink and paper were capable of feeling pain. I'm not an idiot. However, pedophiles get obsessions and courage to act from somewhere. Pornography can be the catalyst that causes them to act. I'm not saying it turned them into a pedophile, I'm saying that an already disturbed person can pick up fictional child pornography and gain the courage to act. But hey, maybe I just watch too much SVU.

My secret was originally longer to include that, but hell, I don't read secrets that are long because I think they're boring.

I'm not some crazy censoring Nazi, either. I'm actually opposed to censorship. However, LJ is a private business, as many have mentioned. I'm just tired of everyone crying because their pr0n is gone. I'm also tired of hearing how it's art. I'll admit that the naked human body can be art, but I fail to see how smut is art. I'm using the term smut to refer to fiction or art drawn for the purpose of making someone (particularly the artist) get all hot and bothered.

And I know this is back a few pages, but hell, someone compared LJ to Nazi Germany during the Holocaust. I do remember how the poem about them coming for the Jews first ended. It ended about a GOVERNMENT that committed GENOCIDE. It was not about a private business expelling clients. This is a fucking blog site for God's sake. First they censored the pedophiles and then they came for the fluffy bunnies made of chocolate and love!

It's one thing to be annoyed at people whining about a private business not acting completely fair and just as if it were a government; or perhaps to be annoyed at the ridiculous Godwin's law and nazi comparisions.

So in a sense, that can be agreed on. But talking about supporting the deletion of journals, rather than saying you understand the deletion or something, kind of does sound like you're a little "Oh no the childrenz the fictional childrenz ;_;" person. When in reality, especially because the wank revolved around teen porn (I think? I have no idea, really), that's a bit of a ridiculous and over the top.

If someone molests a child, it doesn't necessarily mean they are a pedophile. They committed a pedophiliac act, but beforehand they could have had no pathological interest or paraphilia obsession with children. That could have been the only child they've ever considered in that way.

Furthermore, actual pedophilia is highly underresearched on both sides. You don't get 'courage' to act out a sexual deviancy, it's a psychological fixation and it just happens, or is usually bound to happen no matter what.

Before the internet existed, before child pornography existed, pedophiles existed. They got the 'courage' to act from where, then? There was no porn to tell them "BE BRAVE! MOLEST A CHILD!!" It is a FIXATION.*

That is where rational people (see: the ones not comparing LJ deleting journals to something actually SERIOUS like the holocaust) tend to not understand where you're coming from past the "OMG BUT ITS CREEPY AND SCARY" stage.



* I'm talking about actual pedophilia, not someone that's into a teenager. which isn't the actual definition of a pedophile. Show me studies and statistics proving adolescents aren't sexual in nature and I will start thinking it's 'odd' for people to write about them being sexual with other teenagers or adults.

From an observer, if your journal name begins with "K" and you play the two characters flanking Ed, I can tell you what you should have done. If not, you may want to disregard this. =shrug= Your choice.

1) You should have told her this. And the other her, she felt the same way about you, and put off playing with her because she didn't want to hinder things with the two of you.

2) She doesn't read this comm. If you really wanted to tell her, you would make sure to check on that first.

3) She kept trying to talk to you about the relationship the two of you had. You're the one who put it off, put her off, and since when was doing fanart more important than that?

You're not a bad person. But you *really* need to learn how to communicate with people better than this. Because in your refusal to do so, you've only hurt them both to the point of anger. I know the other one, and the only time she gets like that is when someone's hurting a friend. Which is exactly what you were doing to the one the secret's for. She tried to talk to you because she knew there were problems, you told her you were too busy to do so because you were doing M/M fanart. Do you even realize how hurtful that was to her?

All of this -- ALL of it -- could have been avoided had you just *TALKED* to her and been honest. Your secret is very sad now, since you've ended things. You should have talked to her months ago... and not lied about what was wrong.

Re:21 in general: Ugh. Censorship=bad, but sometimes it is either censorship or no manga. Personally, I'll choose the manga. So they changed one thing. Did it really change the meaning? Greed still looks crucified. Why did they change it? Because they would lose business if they didn't. Yes, I know, they lost some business because they did, but seriously, it seemed like the people making the biggest complaints don't pay for their manga anyway.

Sorry guys, manga is changed when it comes to the states. Some changes suck, but you have to deal with it. You know, a lot of the art is changed slightly. Some companies redo sound effects and have to redraw bits of backgrounds and characters to make pages look alright.

So yes. That change sucked. Changes suck. But in order to bring manga over to the states, we have to deal with it. Censorship happens. What will not buying the manga do? You're not helping Arakawa at all. In fact, it's almost a slap in the face to her. Oh, one panel of one volume of a totally kickass series was changed, so I will stop giving money back to the creator. What is up with that?

I do purchase my manga. I tend to do both now, but at the time I only store-bought my graphic novels. A friend of mine found it by accident one day looking things up.

I'm really not all that pissed about it, it was just the most convenient wording . . . . and seriously made me WTF when I realized it.
