Ok. You know what? I'm sick of this shit. I really really am. Ok. Each and every fandom has their shitty parts. You would be hard pressed to find a fandom in existence that hasn't had some big wankfest, or had some of its members do or say something horrible, in the name of their fandom or not. Yes, some bronies may not be nice people, or have horrible opinions or say something horrible or draw/write something that will haunt the depths of my nightmares. Guess what? So do other fandoms. Not all bronies/ Fim fans/whatever the distinction between the two is this time are like that. Every fandom has their whackjobs. It's part of the internet. Get the fuck over it, stop tarring all fans with the same brush, stop taking a few loudmouths as an example of the whole fandom and for the love of all things sane and rational STOP using bronies as you're personal scapegoat/punching bag. Seriously. Enough.

Female,college age, fan of MLP:FiM, despite spending considerable time in the fandom, this is the first time I've heard of the incident in the secret.

I would tell that person that they were a piece of shit and refuse to associate myself with them. I would support the victim, because that victim-blaming person would be 100% in the wrong and they need to take responsibility for their actions.

If my WHOLE school/job was full of victim blaming pieces of shit, which is a MUCH more accurate analogy, I would search for a new job/school and get out of there ASAP because that is a terrible place full of terrible people. Alternatively, I would keep speaking up and find like-minded individuals who will defend those hurt by the establishment.

You don't want people to think you're a shitty brony? Don't act like a shitty brony, and stop ignoring the problem. Ignoring the problem and then demanding you not be associated with the assholes while doing nothing to get rid of the assholes is stupid and it isn't going to work. You deserve to be associated with them. It's that simple.

But no one's saying every man is despicable. People are saying every brony is despicable. Not all men are bronies, and I think the sentiment that men should all be willing to be classed as rapists or rape apologists unless they denounce maleness categorically and come up with something new would probably be met with derision.

That's nice, doesn't stop the fact that it happened. Would you like a recap? An underaged girl was forced into giving a very popular Brony a blowjob in her truck because he. refused. to. leave. it. The bronies (and there were A LOT of them hon) then started sending her death threats when she came out about it. They called her a ton of filthy names like "slut" and "whore", as well as a constantly stream of "Oh, she was asking for it!" and you know what his excuse was? "Baww, my dick was hard, I couldn't help myself! ;^;"

This is why Bronies are filth.

And there are a lot other bronies... hon. Still doesn't change MY point. That that was a single, less than intelligent, part of the fandom. And your bronies are filth only proves me right. That you're using that part of the fandom as a sample of the whole, which is at best inaccurate and at worst willfully ignorant. I don't know anything about what happened than what you've told me and frankly I don't WANT to know. I've learned way too much about the absolute awfulness humankind is capable of to want to spend my Christmas break looking up more. But you know what? That will never make me think all humans, or even most of them are awful. Same with bronies, for the most part, it has been one of the kindest, sanest, most welcoming fandoms I have ever had the pleasure to be associated with. Want some examples? My apologies for sending you to the internet's timesink, finding and compiling more examples takes more time than I'm willing to justify spending on an online argument over fandom. Do us both a favor, take your head out of your ass, read the examples, maybe watch an episode of the show if you hadn't already and spend some time in the non awful parts of the fandom. Ah ha ha using TV Tropes to defend yourself is not helping. (Hint: Tropes has a its own terrible problems, not unlike bronies, actually.)

Look, all fandoms have their terrible members, yes, but you know what the difference between most of them (barring some extreme cases like Homestuck, Hetalia, etc.)?

That all those fandoms try their hardest to kick those terrible members and refuse to be associated with them.

The bronies do the complete opposite: they try so hard to not shun others and to welcome and tolerate everyone that all the dregs from the other fandoms have gravitated to brony fandom and found a place that didn't kick them out for being terrible. (Same problem as TV Tropes, actually, which is why your links made my irony-meter explode.)

And then what? The sane fans leave. So all that remains is the terrible members and the fans that are in denial or simply don't know better.

Because everyone insists on "letting be" the other fans, instead of punishing them and then kicking them out if they don't shape up. Like a healthy society would.

Make a ruckus out of every single one of these events, where a brony is racist, or sexist, or a rape apologist, or transphobic, or homophobic, and so on.

Make the publicity so big, so insiduous, that there is not a single corner of the fandom that hasn't heard about it.

This way the perpetrators will be shamed until they either learn that this shit is not okay or until they simply give up and leave the fandom. Then you will have a fandom that you can be proud of, a fandom of good standing.

Hey guys: My Little Pony is a massive, mega fandom. There's going to be stuff like this. I'm pretty sure Star Wars, Star Trek, and Comics have their share of rape stories and people who victim blame. I'm pretty damn sure I've read Harry Potter fandom having this before. (OH god, do not get me started on Thanefiction's creepy ass. D:)

Does that mean we condom what happen? Fuck no. It's disgusting and it's fandom showing its ugly, misogynistic head. But I'm honestly getting sick of MLP getting targeted as "where the scum are." No. I've found that the massive fandom at large are A) mostly female and B)a bunch of really good awesome people.

Sorry, I'm just honestly getting sick of MLP getting all this shit thrown towards it as the "where the scum live" when it is a very small portion of a much larger community.

While there are nutjobs in every fandom, the brony community, is the first I've ever seen or heard of, defending a real life rapist. Also while their are nice bronies who aren't like that, I have yet to hear about them try to help out the fandom become better. In my opinion they don't seem like they really care about this, because in my opinion if they did they'd try to help change others minds about bronies. You accused OP of using this as a scapegoat, yet do the same to this one person. I would suggest you try to find out about some of the horrible things(not sure what there may be) bronies have done, before attacking someone else for something they don't agree with.

I may not be a brony or care about them want to be fans of MLP:FiM, but I agree with OP.
