wow mega-gross

I agree.

It's not like sibling-cest isn't also deeply fucking gross when you think about, but that's pretty much an accepted part of fandom. Not really seeing that there's any worth in putting up a fence with one on the outside if the other's on the inside.

but, um, ah, you do get why people draw the line there, right, op?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the majority of the canonical incest in ASoIaF is between siblings or cousins, so that makes a certain degree of sense. Also, most people are more easily squicked by parent/child incest than sibling or cousin incest.

[personal profile] thene 2013-01-05 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on the fandom - I've seen a fair bit of father/son incest in FFVIII fandom (Laguna/Squall) and Metal Gear fandom (BB/Snake mostly).

I'm not into incest (at all), but I don't see any point in reaming people out for shipping parent/child when fandom is perfectly willing to accept all sorts of other problematic relationships. If we're going to use the fiction/=reality argument, then it should apply equally to everyone.

Cat's 'side-eyein the fuck out of you' face here is pretty much how I looked at Robb for the entirety of season 2.

...you know, I agree, but not because of kink interest. I've seen some serious fanfics that deal with the issues inter-sibling incest causes (tears in the family, effect during lifetime, etc), but I would be very interested in seeing it done with a parent/child variation. (or, as someone suggests, an uncle/aunt+nephew/niece variation).

(Anonymous) 2013-01-06 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I've read some good Parent/Child actors RPF in Game of Thrones fandom. Specifically Richard and Michelle, some Alfie Allen.

I think parent/child is a different kink than sibling incest. Siblings have been wed in many cultures and I can't think of any that wed parent to child (other than Oedipus and that turned out VERY badly) . There's a huge power dynamic there that many people who like incest aren't comfortable with. There's the element of childhood there.

I also think incidents of parent/child incest in real life might be higher than sibling incest (based on my own guessing only), and it might be a trigger for more people, making it less common in fandom.

I hope you find what you're looking for. Please be respectful in your search. The idea of fic with your kink might be delicious to you, but incest is a very real harm to others. I'm an incest survivor and my experiences were hideous. I understand and don't want to shame anyone for finding that kinky, just please be aware that survivors are out there and more common than you might think.

Going by some of his acting choices, Richard Madden seems to agree with you.

There's some pretty good parent/child fic in Merlin fandom, OP. I haven't read them since they were posted but these are the ones I had saved on Delicious because I enjoyed reading them at the time.

Tight With You (Arthur/Ygraine - this one is particularly good and has a couple of sequels later on in the thread)

Like Your Mother (Arthur/Uther)

To Seal The Deal (Arthur/Uther)

Nightshade (Merlin/Hunith)

Disturbia (Merlin/Hunith)

It exists, it's just difficult to find. I don't have useful recs atm, because it doesn't go with my current interests. Check AO3, check aff, check Disney kink, think about pairings that are popular for other reasons like having hot actors in both roles or coming from animanga (which doesn't draw such a huge distinction between children and adults), and ask yourself if it has to be a bio parent or you could get the same dynamics from guardian/ward. That's how I'd spread the net if I were you. Best of luck, and I hope you locate stories that make you happy.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-07 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
I can get into the parent/child thing as long as the kid didn't grow up around the parent. Like Laguna/Squall from Final Fantasy VIII.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-07 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm like that in the Supernatural fandom. I read the occasional Sam/Dean because there's so *much* of it out there that there are inevitably some amazingly written stories, but the dynamic I would prefer to see (and almost never do) is Dean/John. (And come on, Dean raised Sam as much as John raised Dean.)

Outside of SPN I can't name one parent/child relationship that does it for me, but I can understand the frustration.
