Yeeeeeeeeeeeees! FMA has so many strong female characters who are NOT there as eye candy. Olivier is one of my favorite female characters ever. Even Granny Pinako and Den are badass too!

Yeah, that was kind of a problem for me in the last twenty chapters or so of the manga. I ADORE Hawkeye (as we speak, my friends who read this comm are probably checking this thread for my username so they can have a chuckle about my predictability), and it broke my heart to see her so blatantly invested in him, even if it did up working in their favor.

Thank god for Major General Armstrong. I kind of want her to be my life coach.

I don't think they had a co-dependent relationship at all.

I don't think most people really know what co-dependency is, what with how everyone seems to throw the word around to describe any relationship in which two people love each other to a huge degree (platonically or not).

I think they're both dependent on each other.

I honestly think if something happened to Riza, Roy would just fall apart entirely.

And to be honest, this is a situation where I don't mind. I like their codependency. They went through that war together. They suffered and messed up in a way most people can't comprehend. They're both a little unhinged and just trying to move on and live and make amends. But they need each other to keep sane and make sure neither of them fall out of line because they both know what terrible things they are capable of.

I'm actually really sad that liking strong women is something that needed to be made a secret, like it's something you can't just tell people. :(

I haven't seen Brotherhood yet. I watched the other FMA series first. Loved it. And there are plenty of strong women in that version as well. Winry, Riza, Sheska. I'm glad to hear that's true of Brotherhood as well.

Brotherhood is basically the manga, animated. It has even more badass female characters than the first anime, imho. :)

I've cherry-picked my way through FMA mostly because I don't actually want to have sit through the whole thing centering around the brothers. Most boring part!

It was too similar to the manga for me. The manga however is quite excellent.

I actually like the first series better when it comes to the treatment of women, more specifically, Winry. I like that she doesn't become a love interest and just a really good friend to Ed and Al. And Sheska is in it more.

What I say about Winry is that she's amazing. (Except where some of her violence-played-for-laughs doesn't sit well with me, but it's more in the manga's presentation of that kind of thing than the fact that she does it.)

And I can't be the only one here who loves Mei Chang.

FMA's female characters in the manga and Brotherhood are amazing. I especially like Izumi from the ones mentioned. However, and while OP seems to be more into the action-type and that's perfectly fine, I also love all the other females and not only the ones that kick a lot of ass. Not every woman is a fighter and many do amazing things. I wish all of them, the mentioned and the rest, got more love as well.

I can't think of any female character in FMA I don't think is fascinating. And Winry remains one of my favorite characters, ever, in anything. I particularly like that she had her own life and kept pursuing it, instead of just waiting forever for Ed (and Al).

On the one hand, yay for an awesome FMA ladies secret.

On the other hand, it would be nice if people didn't always immediately point to the heavy hitters as examples of awesomeness. Nothing wrong with preferring more action oriented characters, but not all strength is measured by how much ass is kicked in ten seconds.
