#28, I'll be your friend and I promise not to stalk you

11: Isn't that... all of LJ?

20: Agreed wholeheartedly. It's not anime people hate sometimes, just the goddamn fan club.

24: I would probably grow to hate someone like Haruhi in real life, but sometimes shows shouldn't be judged based on your personal feelings towards characters... I mean, I disliked most of the H&C characters but I acknowledge it was generally decently written and not a bad series.

Okay, and I think nobody needs to take the boob-grabbing thing sooo seriously. I don't like boob-grabbing either but I just brush it off after some time as "anime lulz".

The pre-requisite OT re: ICON!

4. I really hated Suzaku at first, but he grew on me after a while.

24. I hate these "I lose respect blah blah" secrets, but I can't get offended. I have a special hatred for that show and I still fail to see why it's so popular. The art is ugly and the characters are annoying as fuck, IMO. And before anyone tells me to watch more, I've already seen 7 episodes. If a show isn't good at the halfway point, then I'm not going to waste anymore time watching the rest.

24

[identity profile] corps.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Do people not realize that Mikuru is ACTING like the innocent weepy victim? Seriously? People don't get that she's from the future and is playing a roll in order to observe Haruhi? Did people miss that episode where her future-self came in? The one who wasn't a weepy little girl because she didn't have to act like one at that point in time?

Not supporting sexual assault but if Mikuru really wanted to put a stop to it, she could. People need to stop calling her weak-willed. She could put an end to it, the point is she doesn't.

And it's not Haruhi's fault that Mikuru lets her do it.

Someone forgot to take their meds today... Maybe I'm desensitized, but in the back of my head, I realize it's anime, and nobody with half a brain in real life would ever do something like that, so I sit back and relax, and yes, I laughed at that scene. It's just anime/animation, so take it as such. I mean, Tom and Jerry whack each other around with mallets and other blunt objects constantly. If you laughed at that, then you're a hypocrite for the secret, but that's beside the point. The point IS, it's an anime and for you to lose respect for ANYONE just for saying they love it is rather immature.

That goes for ALL 'lose respect' secrets, btw. LOL in before wank.

Re: 24

Right. Because a hungry cat attempting to eat a mouse and the mouse defending himself is totally the same thing as a girl forcing some guy to sexually assault another girl so she can blackmail him into giving her a computer. Sorry, wrong answer. Better luck next time.

And I totally love how everyone is accusing the OP of #24 for taking shit too seriously, and at the same time getting their own knickers in a Gordian knot because a random, anonymous person on the internet whom they will likely never meet has lost respect for them.

Why do I picture you grabbing your knees rocking and telling yourself "everybody loved it" over and over again?, your post has an air of trying to look for validation by stating as fact that most people share your opinion and as such it's the right opinion and the rest of the world should just STFU.

Well, stuff it, a lot of people hated the epilogue and talking about how much we hated it is as valid as you talking about how much you loved it.

I hated it, it was an unadulterated piece of shit that read as if it was written by a dumb twelve year old fangirl on crack, and knowing that it pisses some fantwits who can't deal with people expressing opinions opposite to theirs is an added pleasure to airing my displeasure. :)

Re: #25

(Anonymous) 2007-09-04 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
Um. No.

I'm tired of the wank and bitching. Simple as that. I know tons of people hated it. Whatever. Fine. It's the HP fandom. Everything is hated by someone.

But there is a difference between saying you dislike something and posting about it and throwing a bitchyfit about hating it.

24. Way to take anime seriously, it's all in good fun and no one is getting hurt. I'm not a huge fan of Haruhi as a character, but the show is good.

25. I loved it too, Albus Severus is a stupid stupid name, but other than that, I loved it.

#25

(Anonymous) 2007-09-04 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
Eh the names didn't bug me much, but I can understand where they would. The wizarding world has weird names. I think it's more the names of the parents being so normal that made that one stand out awkwardly. But Severus is where it really sounds weird to me, I think Albus is fine.

24

[identity profile] static-roses.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Wow.

I wonder if this person watches any anime at ALL. This is sure as hell mild to a majority of it.

I don't know if that's anime soundtracks in general, or FMA soundtracks -

but I listened to nothing but my FMA soundtracks for three years. They're beautiful orchestrated music, and worth it.

24

[identity profile] ritalion.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
...uh. I'll admit I've never seen the anime and don't really know much about, but...

how the fuck is that the victim's fault? she didn't stand up for herself, oh noes. clearly, she deserves whatever she gets.

Re: 24

[identity profile] soldierojustice.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
(RP journal, too lazy)

Said victim is putting on a weak act out of duty to her organization, which has commanded her to let Haruhi do whatever she wants as long as the world doesn't end. From that perspective, I can see how people could blame Mikuru (and frankly, her weak persona annoys me).

However, I agree that blaming the victim is a terrible thing, even in Mikuru's case. The show is still awesome, though.

[identity profile] yummycoffee.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
3. Okay this is going to sound really bad but...this type of cosplay always makes me wonder if the person in the costume is incredibly unattractive. Especially since you basically cover your entire body, even your skin. But I guess if you REALLY want to look like a character...well, that's the way to go. I-it's kind of like being in those character costumes at a theme park or something... D':

11. The reason there's never been a friending meme like that is because oh gee, most people use their journals for more things than to wank off about fandom 24/7. Sure I do know of a few people who either have seperate accounts to fangirl in, special filters in their personal journal, or they're just so paranoid about being stalked that they refuse to talk about anything that isn't fandom related, but that vast majority will mix it up, myself included. But I guess if you want a superficial connection with fandom, that's your own prerogative.

14. I don't think I ever watched Adult Swim for Home Movies (though that show did get better when they learned how to animate with STABLE LINES), but you're right some of the new cartoons on CN are really shitty, especially the Gym Partner's a Monkey show or Totally Spies, ugh. Nick actually does better cartoons now, El Tigre, Fairly Odd Parents, and Avatar to name a few. Though I still love CN for Foster's. :3

19. It's cause he's openly gay for Inu Yasha, duh.

I'M INFORMATIVE.

[identity profile] pimmy.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
3. Actually, the term "kigurumi" also applies to theme park mascots in japan, so you're on the right track. quite a few anime (like Pretty Cure) have kigurumi actors for live shows and advertisements. Mecha cosplay, fursuits, animal pajamas, and power ranger-like costumes all fall under the kigurumi category too, in japanese terms.

as for the whole mask thing, really it's just like you said, people REALLY want to look JUST like the character. That way, you don't HAVE to have the same face shape, hair color, or even the same gender! The body suit hightens the appearance of a smooth, cell shaded skin tone. Another part of the appeal is, you don't have to be shy cus no one knows who you are. You simply become the character.

A lot of people say "theyre prolly ugly!" which is understandable really, but come to think of it, isn't it the perfect solution to people not born with perfect aesthetics?

sorry for tl;dr

The girl who did the loverly elf picture is the Zelda fandom's own version of Cassandra Clare. She took her EPIC ZELDA FANFICZ and renamed characters so she could self-publish and sell them in book form at a high price.

Great artist, very much so, but she let her online fame think she's awesome at more than drawing, which ehh... she hasn't quite proven yet.

I'll post this again tomorrow, but...
Fandom friendship meme?
Reply to this with the types of people you want to make friends with, and what fandoms you're 'in' and what fandoms you like talking about (if there's a difference for you).
List as many as you can!
Also your age if you feel it's important, your gender, again if you feel it's important, and ... i dunno. Tell me what a meme should have in it and I'll do it better tomorrow.
Good luck!

3) I completely agree. I have a lot of respect for kigurumi cosplayers, and all my friends think it's creepy. And ee! Nozomi!
9) Me too, kinda.
10) I read every page of the comments, even if none of my secrets are on the post. I can't be the only one.
13) Me too!
20) They're both beautiful, but I'd be more likely to fav the first one, sorry. There is nothing wrong with the second, it's amazing, but... I just kind of stay in my subculture, I guess.
23) *reply~*
24) I love that show! But Haruhi herself, I agree, is pretty scary. I'd rather be locked in a room with Asakura, the homicidal yandere. If you get past that, though, you can actually see that Haruhi slowly starts to treat her teammates with respect throughout the series.

[identity profile] xreddestinyx.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
20. I like both those pictures a lot! One is lush and detailed, and the other has a simplicity that I find very pretty. If I know who did them I'd probably favorite them both.

24. I'm turned off to it, too, but for different reasons. Whenever a show basically becomes some sort of internet joke, I'm turned off to it. If feel the same way about 300 and Rozen Maiden.

11. Go friend fandom journals/comms if you only want to talk about fandom. If you don't want to know about my life, which is what I post about in MY JOURNAL in the first place (because I keep my fics separate in another journal), then piss off and go find a goat to fuck or something equally as amusing.

#1, I hope one day you'll be comfortable enough with what you like, not to care what other people think about what's on your iPod.

#3, I think it's very creepy, but pretty cool. Good luck! :D

#7, everybody has their outlet. It's a good thing you've found yours. :)

#9, I like music because I like music. I don't like bands or artists or whatever. Basically, I'm agreeing with you. I avoid gossip and even watching music videos because of it.

#13, I still love Sailor Moon.

#14, I was actually thinking the same "They're turning into lame Nicklodeon" lately too. :/ I'm glad to find I'm not the only one.

#15, :'(

#16, *sigh* We, as society, really need to get over the cosmetic side of things and start seriously seeing people for their personalities and such.

#20, I agree. :/

#23, I'm sure a lot of people do it.

#25, I don't care for the epilogue, but I know some people who like it. I think it was gave certain people closure, and it was a good thing.

(Anonymous) 2007-09-04 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. :) I think if someone did a poll it would come out about even. Rowling even said you'd either love it or hate it. I'm cool-cool with people disliking it. I just don't see the point in throwing a fit and broadcasting it.

24

(Anonymous) 2007-09-04 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
This may sound cliche, but you probably just didn't get it. The show is all about Haruhi's growth, from being self-centered to someone who actually cares about the people around her. Coming from someone who has only seen "bits and pieces" of the show, your post comes off as a wee bit pretentious, don't you think?
