HAHA WHAT?

Okay, what she did to Mikuru in that episode was pretty bad. There's no denying that. And she can get a little bitchy.

But you're missing the ENTIRE point of the anime if that's ALL you're focusing on. Christ. Don't start bashing shit when you've only "watched little bits of the series" and therefore, could not really get it. Watch the whole thing, then your opinion can be backed up and well rounded. Otherwise, people are going to say the exact same thing as me.

[identity profile] atrypical.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I have the same problem...
7. I understand. For me, it's sometimes like, RP is the only thing I can control, or that I feel I can control.
14. OH MY FUCKING GOD AMEN.
19. Because Jakotsu is canonically gay? I dunno.
25. I kind of think she does, yeah.
28. I find a lot of mine through RPs, actually.

Yeah. I think she's long past the state of being offended and has been for books.

[identity profile] ex-peacebone459.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
24. I immediately lose respect for people who:
1.Taken fandom too seriously
2.Wank on others for liking a character
3.Judge a show entirely by one/a few scenes or one character
4.Post the "I lose respect for ____" secrets.

Just shut the fuck up. I liked the series but didn't like Haruhi or her personality. But I'm not going to attack/lose respect for anyone who does.

9. Totally agreed. I still listen to her old stuff and I am not ashamed. :3
11. :| You're not alone. I hate it when people on my FL pull stunts like that, too.
14. FUCKING SIGNED. God, I miss the old days of Cartoon Network. Cartoon Cartoon Fridays... All of it is such shit now.
15. :< That's awful. I'm so sorry...
20. SERIOUSLY. D: UGH.
28. Not really on topic with the secret, but I really love how you did the art here. It's adorable. :D As for making friends... Well, the only advice I can think of is to join communities and be active in them. Lurking won't get you anywhere. Comment! Email your favorite authors, IM your favorite artists! It's how I've met my best friends.

[identity profile] longlongwaytogo.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
28. Exactly. You can't just sit around and wait for it to happen, you have to get out there and talk.

1. I'm kind of the same. Whenever we have to introduce ourselves in class and talk about our favorite shows or music, I never say "I love Neon Genesis Evangelion and Bleach! And I love Chihiro Onitsuka and HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR." Because it's rare for me to meet people in real life who are OKAY with anime and Japanese music. They all have this "it all looks and sounds like shit" and then the anime fans I do meet are fucking otaku/Japanophiles and everything is better if it's Japanese. ;~;

4. GOD FORBID IF A CHARACTER IS ACTUALLY REALISTIC AND HUMAN AND-- OH MY GOD NICE. Just last night I was thinking about having a huge, ranty, PUBLIC (OHSHI--) post about how much the Geass fandom really sucks. There's only a small group of sane fans.

11. Yeah, I know! How dare anyone have a life outside fandom?

16. I don't care if anybody hates Orihime but bashing her for things like her breasts being huge (but not bashing Yoruichi, Matsumoto or Kuukaku) is NOT OKAY. It makes you shallow, just like how some people are only into girls with big breasts. There's nothing wrong with hating her character design but it has NOTHING to do with her personality.

24. Does it make me terrible that I do the EXACT SAME THING to my own best friend in real life? And that she has a BOYFRIEND? (Though he lives in Arizona and we're in Canada.) I always make guys touch her boobies. Lolol I don't know.

[identity profile] dorknessrising.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 02:38 am (UTC)(link)

13. ME TOO. My One True Fandom. I love it still, despite its horrific flaws. I'm actually rewatching PGSM right now XD I can't wait to break out my manga!

20. Agreed. I used to be one of those mindless anime fanbrats who only faved fanart, but now that I'm out I fave a lot more original and/or non-anime artwork, even photography, which is a medium I can barely begin to understand. It's liberating, but also sad to think that some people are limiting themselves to certain genres of artwork. There's tons of gorgeous stuff out there, and gasp! It's not anime!

22. I've also noticed this discrepancy in what is socially acceptable. Oh, hypocrisy e___________e あたしの猫は太すぎ :<

[identity profile] livfreedieyoung.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Wow, for a moment I thought I had written a secret without even realizing because I feel exactly the same way. I always inwardly panic when a friend of mine finds my ipod and starts looking through it to accidentally find my stash of anime/video game music D= *dork*

3. Seeing those on /a/ so often has desensitized me. They still kind of creep me out with those vacant, unblinking eyes *shudders*

4. A lot of people seem to hate Suzaku, I've noticed. It's such a shame. And that has to be the most accurate description of Lelouch I've ever seen XD

13. Sailor moon is love~ I think I'll always have a giant girl-crush on Sailor Saturn XD

16. I empathize completely. I've always been pretty 'well endowed' myself and one of my friends has been openly jealous about it. I envy flat girls so much DX I also can't help but wonder why Orihime gets bashed for having big boobs, yet Tifa gets off scott free. WTF fandom.

24. Taking things a bit too seriously? =/

[identity profile] yui-hime.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
#16) Tifa's been around for a decade now. Everyone got tired of dissing her boobs and went on with life. Orihime's... a bit more recent.

[identity profile] enjolras.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
1. HAHA. My friends all understand that I am weird and enjoy "foreign" music. Sure, they poke fun at me, but it's no big deal. They're my friends and knowing that I like anime soundtracks doesn't sully their opinion of me. Hopefully, if worse comes to worse, your friends will think that too.

15. Hoooo man. That really sucks. I feel for you. :(

16. Ugh, I can't stand the big boobs thing. Just let it go or something. It's SO stupid to hate a character for THEIR BREASTS. GET A LIFE.

19. He's gay. :\

23. I'VE OFTEN THOUGHT THAT PEOPLE DO THIS.

24. Wow, hate much? Don't let it get to you...

25. I love the epiloque too. DDD:

Yeah!

[identity profile] antler-action.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
19. ZOMG Renkotsu! <3 I guess some people hate him because he turns against the others, but I kind of think he had a pretty good reason. Also the psychotic paranoia just made him hotter
25. Yes. I loved the epilogue, and so did plenty of people I know IRL. If you don't like it, that's cool, but it's not like everyone who read the book went, "Wow, that was crap."

19

[identity profile] antler-action.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, the gay thing.

I am too lazy to log off of my RP account, what.

[identity profile] powerofsteam.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I love anime soundtracks too. And I'm often embarrassed to tell people what kind of music I like for the same reason.

22. 日本語が分かるが、その文分からない。文法の誤りがあると思う。

[identity profile] bolshevists.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Me too, totally. Everyone will be all "What are you listening to? :D" and I make a frantic rush to hide my iPod.

24. Hey, I found that part hilarious. You certainly can't say that Haruhi isn't determined. I actually do like her personality a lot; the way I see her, she isn't afraid to say what she wants or do what it takes to get what she wants. And I do find the way she treats Mikuru quite amusing. Go ahead, call me a terrible person. But that's how my group of friends acts as well, so maybe I'm just used to it.

24

[identity profile] stigmatize.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
OH FUCK IMAGINARY STORIES ABOUT GIRL RAPISTS ARE SERIOUS BUSINESS.

[identity profile] cakemix.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
1.) I actually downloaded a ton of soundtracks from Nipponsei's IRC tracker today -- sometimes a lot of the BGM that plays in a series is just as awesome or pretty as the OP or ED themes. :3
9.) IAWTS! It's a shame that she became so completely off her gourd recently, but a lot of her old songs are catchy as hell and fun to listen to over and over. I still have a few of them from my teenybopper phase, haha.
24.) Personally, I think Ryoko is a much cooler character than Haruhi and Mikuru combined, but... this seems like you're completely blowing it out of proportion, don't you think?

[identity profile] goodguesser.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Ryoko! ♥

[identity profile] iiori.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
1. OMG SAME. D8

[identity profile] goodguesser.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
24. I kind of agree? I love Haruhi but if she was an actual person then I doubt I would like her as much.

(Anonymous) 2007-09-03 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
14. Oh, Cartoon Network, what happened to the good old days where Dexter's Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls, and Johnny Bravo got regular play? I know Courage the Cowardly Dog is still shown, but why not earlier in the day?

What the hell happened to Toonami? Where are the reruns of Swat Kats and Batman? Just because Boomerang exists doesn't mean you have to stop airing classic cartoons, like The Smurfs and Thundercats.

The only good thing to come out of CN recently is Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Everything else has been between 'meh' and 'not even chimps with ADHD and a cocaine addiction would watch this'.

(Anonymous) 2007-09-03 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
9. Word.

14. Word.

16. Even though Orihime isn't my favorite character, I can't stand the bashing - especially the boob bashing, either. Actually, I found her breast size to actually be an enhancement (no pun intended) to her character because it shows how humble she is since she doesn't flaunt her attractiveness at everyone. If she was really a "whore", she'd have those boobs in everyone's face. That actually made me like her character better.

19. My impression is that people like Jakotsu because he's the most amusing, since he hits on InuYasha and Sesshomaru. I don't think it really has anything to do with who is a better serial killer, or who is nicer.

1. Hehe, I can relate! I have tons of video game soundtracks on mine, and I feel like such a nerd, but some of it is just so cool.

11. I doubt you'd find any because not many people have perfect lives and perfect health like you. You should be grateful instead of an insensitive jackass. And really, the whole purpose of journals is for people to write about their lives in.

24. That scene makes me want to watch that series. *adds to download list*

28. I agree. I have fandom friends on my FL, but I'm envious of how they're all so tight with each other. I'm just kind of...there.

28. Go around to comms and talk to people. Seriously that's all their is to it. Then ask if you can friend them.
2. interesting! He could dress as a woman for a dare or something. Like, for a day. And then get bashed...

tl;dr

(Anonymous) 2007-09-03 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
11. I sympathize. I agree with everyone else's sentiment (though not attitude) that DUH, of course people have life outside fandom. Some people keep their journals fandom-specific, some like me mix up everything (fandom, crack, art, fic, daily summaries, deep thoughts, rants and emo...) into one account. Some people post almost completely about their real lives even though they use LJ on fandom communities/RPs/whatnot. You can't expect people to post only about fandom unless, well, that's all they already always post about. Same with friending people for a certain fandom then another one takes over their affections; don't expect them to stay in YOUR fandom because YOU want them to.

BUT!... I really sympathize. I friended a handful of people in a fandom friending meme (I almost NEVER friend people unless I've chatted with them on AIM or through LJ comments first, or know them from somewhere else), just because NO ONE on my flist was into that main fandom of mine and I was desperate. XD I have become close to some of them and others I unfriended after a while, petty as it felt. I just didn't care about their personal lives and they NEVER posted about our shared fandom (a few posted about fandoms I DESPISE, too, which was annoying on top of boring!). One girl was just too immature for me; I couldn't handle her whiny, brain-dead, 15-year-old attitude. If she'd been a good friend, I'd've been interested in her life. But she NEVER commented on my LJ back and I stopped reading all her posts, so I dropped her without a word. Haven't heard a peep from her, though I see here in this comm and a few other places...

ALL THAT TO SAY:
If someone gets upset because you friended them through FANDOM and unfriended them when you found out you weren't really compatible, I don't think that should be taken as an offense; the test-run just didn't go well. Who cares about having a list full of fandom friends when you don't care about any of them? I'd rather have a flist that I am interested in.
I agree with feeling of your secret, it's just not practical. Don't care? Don't friend. It's that easy. :)

AHH! You've just helped me understand why people have those "If this is the only entry you can read, you've been cut from my f-list" entries! Personally, it's only happened to me once and I didn't bother to ask why because I didn't really know the person long enough to care (much). :p Didn't meet her through a friending meme/community, either.

9. I still listen to some of her stuff, along with boybands. ;) It's what I grew up with! Personally, I'd ignore what actors/singers do in their personal time and just watch/listen to their performances if I like the performances. It always made sense to me for it to be that way.

11. Wow... you'd absolutely hate me ;)

15. I'll be honest, I'm now curious to hear more details. But yeah, I'm a really nosy person. :D Way back when I was a Rinoa that paired off with a Seifer. (Hah, back when I was actually into RPing, video games and anime... AND had time)

20. I'll say it aloud! :) Say it loud and proud!
Seriously though, I really love the picture you placed on the right! :)
I don't mind anime images but I do think some images are highly overrated and kept as favorites just because they're anime. Not always, just more often than they should be.

24. Honestly, your secret made me want to check out that scene, just to see what you're talking about. But alas, I am lazy. What exactly happened in that scene?

27. It gets worse when you're involved in that sort of dream with someone you know in real life and want to share it with someone... but you really just can't do it. :[

28. I have the exact opposite problem. I don't really try to friend people online, but in person I usually run into the anime/fandom people. While that's not necessarily a bad thing, it can be a little frustrating at times. :[

24. Haruhi wants a computer for the new SOS Brigade, so she drags Kyon and Mikuru up the the computer clubs room, and demands a computer. After they refuse, Haruhi grabs the presidents hand and makes him grope Mikuru, and takes pictures as blackmail, thus forcing him to hand over one of their computers.

4. I've never understood why people hate Suzaku. Most of the reasons I've heard are very petty. Sure, I have my petty reasons for loving him *coughthattightflightsuitcough* but I really like how flawed he is as a character. It makes him so much more human. But yes, win for calling Lulu a drama queen.

7. Roleplay is an outlet for me too... though I tend to get more involved with RL is going good XD;

16. Ugh, bashing a female character for having large breasts is so shallow. Blame the artist if anyone, but don't blame the character. ... I happen to like several character w/ large boobs XD; Orihime, Matsumoto, Satella, Clara/Psiren...

25. I loved the epilogue myself. It would have driven me up the wall not knowing at least a little of what happened afterwards. Personally, I wish it had been longer and included more characters because I'm a nut for details, but at least we got a little something. I'd be willing to bet money that J.K. finds this whole thing amusing.

Yeah I think she's long past the point of being hurt by this kind of stuff.

I agree. If it had ended with Harry wanting a sandwich I would have been dissatisfied.

[identity profile] malana.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
25. I love it too. Yeah, I do think it was a little cheesy, but after the heart-break of losing so many of my favorite characters, I wanted something sappy and sweet.

25

(Anonymous) 2007-09-04 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
Remus and Tonks dying was so sad.

I think there was a slight level of cheese there, but I don't see what was so dreadful about it. I liked it ending on a sweet note.

[identity profile] gothic-chickens.livejournal.com 2007-09-03 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
16. I LOVE Orihime, she's adorable. Seeing her get bashed, especially because of aesthetic reasons, makes me sad. :(

19. I'm was an avid Jakotsu fan (back when I was into Inuyasha. XD Not so much anymore, though). I thought he was hilarious. But I definately knew he was a complete bastard. People actually thought he was nice? D: FANDOM.
I didn't like Renkotsu as much, but he was interesting. And used guns/cannons. :D

20. Oh man, I completely agree. :( I like cutesy art from time to time, but really wonderful pieces that the one the right ALWAYS amaze me. I also like fanart a lot too, if they're well done, but even I'm getting tired of constantly seeing anime and fanart on the front page. :( I usually don't favorite art on Deviantart though, because I don't like doing it without leaving a comment and I'm usually too shy to leave said comment. D: I'LL TRY TO GET OVER THIS.
And the artist who did the elf piece also did a wonderful one of Wander (from Shadow of the Colossus), which made me unbelieveably happy. XD

22. Just wanted to let you know I'm completely jealous of the fact that you have Japanese classes in your school. D: I like French, but I really wanted to learn Japanese.

24. I didn't really like Haruhi for that scene either, but...I didn't think it was THAT offensive. :/ And it's equally Mikuru's fault for not standing up for herself.

28. IT'S LIKE LOOKING INTO A MIRROR. D: I'm in the same boat as you! I can never build up the courage to ask people if I can friend them or comment in communities or jfkljdalkfj aarrrrgggggh. I wish I wasn't so socially inept. ;_;

Re: 24

(Anonymous) 2007-09-04 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
And it's equally Mikuru's fault for not standing up for herself.

I was too intimidated to stand up for myself when I got assaulted by a boy back in highschool. Does that somehow make what he did to me okay?

The OP was pretty nasty about it but I agree with him/her about the base of why they dislike Haruhi's character and why they hate to see people idolize her.

I've seen the whole series myself and honestly I don't think the way Haruhi behaves should ever be held up as 'cool'. She treats people crappy, ruthlessly takes advantage of their weaknesses, and nothing really excuses her actions.

The show has it's merits, but Haruhi's character isn't one of them for me.

4) I know a lot of people who loves Suzaku, and I keep telling them I wish he would die a painful death, just like your brother! I don't mind when my close friends tell me they like him, in fact, I enjoy arguing with them why he sucks and listen to their reason of why he's cool, and so on... I think you two will have fun too, you should go on and have the courage to tell him!

13) Aaah, how nostalgic...

24) that's just the way Haruhi is. And the show is awsome because of this, if you have issue with it, just don't watch it
