21. Or, you know, you can find your strong female figures. Hawkeye, Pirotess, Karla, Soi, Eugenie, Noin, Hikaru, Kendappa, Karen Kasumi, Ashe, Drace...yeah, so they might not have the most functional relationships, but yaoi is no better. They can all stand up on their own without a man, and for a lot of those characters, can kick some fucking ass on their own too.

[identity profile] norrowa.livejournal.com 2007-09-08 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well... Noin might not be the best example there, because while she's an incredibly strong, kickass character, her relationship with Zechs is, um... kinda... unequal. To say the least -_- I mean -- Noin sacrifices her place as best in the class for the sake of Zechs' ego, which doesn't really read to me as "standing up on her own without a man".

Though I still love her XD

27. Uh, have you ever noticed how many fans beg and whine for art? How annoying do you think that is? (Note the 'again'.)
And it's not bad how she said it. It's not like she acted as if she was really angry. She might be fed up with how many requests, and perhaps how she clearly stated that she only did these shoes for her friends, but her notes were neither mean or nice.

So, why is it mean? Because she would only make shoes for her personal friends? Isn't that understandable?
So far, all of the giftart I've seen from other of dA's "famous" artists were for their personal friends as well.

Please, do explain what was so mean about that, because I am really having trouble figuring out why you're upset about that.

Right now, all I'm thinking is that you're too sensitive... to basically something that's nothing at all.

#1, LOL "The Witches" by Ronald Dahl convinced most of my class our 3rd grade teacher was a witch. She seriously did have blue spit though!

Re: #1!!

Did she chew pens or something? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause blue spit. D:

Are you serious? Oh god, I'll never be able to look at that textbook the same way again. XD;;;

27.

[identity profile] charmwitch.livejournal.com 2007-09-08 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I really don't see how this comment is mean, honestly. Sometimes artists get pmed constantly about requests and trades. They get swamped, if they don't at least try to sound serious in their comments they're likely to get harassed even more. I don't know the artist, but that's the feeling I get reading that one line.

It sounds like she might be really popular too, so I'm afraid I can sympathize. People don't like 'no' for an answer when they want something on dA.

Re: 27.

[identity profile] metaraymek.livejournal.com 2007-09-08 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I know who she's talking about and quite frankly, I think the person who sent in the secret is butthurt WAAAAAAY to easily by the word 'No'.

I've seen far more meaner things said by artists on DA -especially in regards to the most asinine of things- and her artist comment is so unbelievably tame, it's stupefying.

The artist in question is indeed a very nice person and I don't blame her for putting her foot down and saying 'No', albeit in a fairly polite manner... well, when compared to everyone else, that is.

It's so sad that some people feel they're entitled to something -for free, I may add- from someone just because they're more talented/popular than they are. Oh well.

14. I could have created this secret! Yes, I ship Holland/Eureka too, and I thought I was the only one!

21. I don't think that romantic relationships are ever portrayed realistically, whether it's het or yaoi. I get sick of a lot of yaoi because usually the more feminine and submissive of the two always ends up the uke and the strong powerful manly character ends up the seme. So in some ways, it's just as bad, because it's like het except that this time the girly character has a penis. But there are some good manga series out there with strong female characters. Sometimes if you look at secondary characters, you can find a woman who can kick major ass.

[identity profile] wondermilky.livejournal.com 2007-09-08 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
14: Pairing Eureka with anyone but Renton seems insane, but I'd totally read (and love) some Holland/Eureka stuff. ♥ Is there any (good) fics/fanart out there? I'm too scared too look.

3. That's a bit unusual, I have to admit.

Also, ARGH, WHY IS SHE NAMED AFTER A DOG? IT DRIVES ME NUTS.

27. Seems reasonable to me. I fail to see where that becomes rude.

17) Dialog, one-liner based RP can have as much if not in some cases more and better development and the like than those other kinds. Which isn't to take either side, since I've been in both, and have equally loved both, but since there's a specific target here, yeah. XD;

I think the idea of a post having... so many comments sort of says in itself, actually, that the comments ADD UP, therefore, characters are engaging back and forth in what ends up in a long conversation, so it's not one-dimensional, non-developing roleplay. But that's just me from my experience of it. ^^;

24) Haha, I hope that is not what I think it is referring to, only because I always feel horrible for anything negative like that that comes out of one I happen to mod.

25) LUST PENIS YES.

Just read it and while I'm pretty sure I'll be sleeping fine tonight, I'm not going to deny that the whole concept and the last page is fucking spooky. Especially the last page.

The macros (http://macrochan.org/search.py?tag=Themes%3AComics%3AThe%20enigma%20of%20Amigara%20fault) spawned from it, however, are fucking hilarious, and may help in recovering from it?

17. I'm not sure I follow your logic. If you think that dialog-based RPs are bad, and the players aren't as good as the prose players tend to be, if they all stopped being bad dialog RPers, wouldn't they then just become bad prose RPers? It seems to me that if you don't like the kind of players who would prefer to do it one-liner style, then the recent popularity of said style would do nothing but siphon off that sort of player from the games you would enjoy. I know for a fact that the style of RP you're looking for is still out there. Hell, you've gotten several recommendations in this very post.

... unless of course you're just bitching to let out steam. Because we all deserve to be bitches in our fandom secrets.

not the op

(Anonymous) 2007-09-08 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
the problem arises when almost all the RPGs available on LJ are the 'crack' versions of RP with the rapid play style of LJ threaded comments.

not everyone likes rapid play crack games.

you are right, tho. I was beginning to despair there were no RPGs out there in the style I like and the recommendations made in other threads here came at just the right time.

1. I haven't thought about those books in a long time, but I read so many of them back then...I think I'll have to track them down now. Those and Sideways Stories from Wayside High. School stories that make no sense ftw.

(Anonymous) 2007-09-08 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it didn't really help that most of the time you two chilled in your own little corner, spouting one-liners at each other and making out on random objects. More involvement with the others in the RP and less of a "OMG CANON MUST STICK TO IT" attitude would have helped. Because, really, the whole premise is OOC. Most of the characters wouldn't have even started an online journal. Sticking with a canon-only approach would have killed us, with the new seasons starting up so soon.

Good luck with the 'Mance.

I am not going to argue with you on your opinion, but not all the women in anime/manga are damsels "I need a man to save me" in distress, and the genre is getting better, just as media is (yes there are still ups and downs, but I think now more than ever, we are getting to the point of having interesting women in fandom).

No one cares if you don't read or write het, but I hate this sort of constant comment from slash only fen that there are no "strong" women, and that all female characters are a feminists worst nightmare.

I don't think a female should have to fit the 'feminist' ideal of what women should be to be interesting or strong, and I say this as a loud and proud feminist.

Re: 21

[identity profile] kristenell.livejournal.com 2007-09-08 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Also, I don't know if I was clear in my comment, but the first line of the comment is totally along the lines of "Well there is no strong women to you, but not me or others that I know" sort of thing.
