I felt like this at first, and I got so bored with the trolls that I quit reading entirely.

Then a few months later out of boredom, I went back and started reading again and discovered that now I ~LOVED~ the trolls. IDK.

I'm from West Yorkshire but spent some of my childhood in NE Lincolnshire. The way some of the kids made fun of how I said things, and how they treated me like scum because they made fun of everyone from Yorkshire, especially at summer time when a lot came to the seaside. Yeah. I kinda get how you feel. But I moved around so much I eventually lost an identifiable Yorkshire accent and just sound "northern" now - though I'm living in Scotland and a few Scots have managed to place me, but I don't know if that's just a lucky guess.

Anyway, embrace it OP. Nobody should feel bad because of where they're from. And I sometimes wish I had kept my Yorkshire accent because it's one of those weird things where I think it'd be a connection to home and my family, even though they're not all that far away really.

I wouldn't say I hate it, but I stopped seeing the fun in it when I found out it's more about which characters have the hardest campaigners than which ones are actually the most loved.

Re: Periods

(Anonymous) 2013-03-10 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
My periods are never on a set schedule. My last period only lasted two days, which isn't common for me. The one before that lasted six. I usually only get really bad cramps on the first day, and then it's fine the rest of the time. My two day period was really heavy, though, so that might be why it was shorter than normal.

I used to be really into Thief.

Then I took a break from Thief for a few years.

Now I look at Thief fandom and it's like... the fuck is wrong with these people?

But we know Uhura's story.

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-03-10 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
She's dating Spock now, we know that about her. What more about her is of any interest now that we've established this essential part of her character?

How about some Devil Wears Prada? It's an active fandom with lots of decent writers, so something for most tastes.

If you browse the 'find' tag on the dvwp LJ comm you'll get loads of recs with short descriptions of stories people have particularly loved.

Another big one would be Hermione/McGonagall from HP. I'm kinda squicked by student/teacher, so I don't have many recs there, but Headmistress X's Ancient Magic is well regarded.

What exactly is "chemistry"?

Between actors, I mean. I know the technical definition, but that's useless to me. How does it work for the audience? How do you define it? How do you spot it? What makes you notice it? What indicates it? How do you know when it's there and how do you know when it's not there? Can you provide me with any examples?

(I'm on the spectrum and I have a feeling that's why I have a hard time with these kinds of things. I need explanations and examples to understand.)

Yes! Kit Harrington also stars in the film. Apparently Sean Bean dies in the film but not really.

Green Lantern (Spoilers!)

The newest episode sort of destroyed any hope of an "Aya is redeemed' ending. I don't think her plan is all that thought out, though. She's going to destroy herself and the manhunters in the process if she stops life from ever happening.

I liked Razer a little bit more in this episode. He at least acknowledge Aya had gone too far to be saved. :S

Yes, but god willing a car accident will fix everything. Jaejoong can become a Martyr for the cause, and in the public sympathy outpouring from his death, Yunho can admit their love, not only settling the dispute once and for all but making it easier for many people in that country to come out. It'd be for the good of all, you know? And their love would be immortal, untaintable. That's the only reason I want him to die. I AM NOT A BAD PERSON.

There is definitely an Ann/Leslie one in the Parks and Recreation folder over at AO3 (Ann is the one who's pregnant).

I think the reason this concept is used is less is that there are more realistic possibilities to write a baby fic for a f/f couple- of course you can also do that with a m/m one, but then you have to somehow include the baby's biological mother in the story, and the person who is pregnant is not part of your couple...

Isn't Scandal a small fandom, though? Maybe the people writing for it just aren't into a lot of kinks. A03 isn't the best judge but there are less than 40 fics over there and most of them are Fitz/Olivia with a smattering of Olivia/Mellie that I just might check out because YESPLEASE :)

Even though Jurassic Bark still makes me really sad, a part of me kind of hated the retcon. I don't know, yeah it's nice Seymour didn't have to wait for Fry to come back and die alone but it also cheapened the emotional impact of Jurassic Bark for me. I guess I must be in a minority sort of wondering if it had been better leaving things how they were because apparently the retcon was a reaction to fans chewing the writers out over how much Seymour's arc upset them. At least, I vaguely I remember reading that explanation once.

Anyway OP, it's fine if you think one was more moving than the other.

I haven't played Awakening and probably won't be able to, but I've played the rest of them. Well, except for 9 and 10, because like with Awakening, I can't afford it and they're kinda hard to emulate.

And I'm here to be one of the few who'll admit to disliking it (because idk where you hang out, since I've seen nothing but blind love for the game).

TIME TRAVEL? Uhhh...

Characters who look nothing like anyone in any of the previous games? I mean, the character designs are ridiculous. Some are okay, some are actually quite nice, but a majority are unnecessarily sexualized, skimpy, don't follow any kind of style (sure, we've had short dresses and thigh highs for ages, but I really don't see how a bra and some kind of transparent fabric over it is okay). In the previous games, you'd always have a sense that they're from the same world, their senses of style were similar. AND the outfits were mostly rather simple compared to other fantasy games. Now you have half-naked chicks, complicated heart-design garters and a feeling that the cast is a mishmash of rejected designs from Summonnight, Tales of... and so on.

Fucking beach and swimsuit side plots? Are the devs really that thirsty that they have to include that kind of fanservice?

Someone I know called him "Bendybus Cabbagapatch" recently...I don't know why I found that so funny but I was laughing for ages.

Re: I seriously hate A03

Seconding this. It's especially troublesome when the character you're searching for fic for doesn't get much fic focused on them in the first place.

Least favorite season of your favorite shows

Assuming the shows in question ran for more than one season, which season is your least favorite and why?

I guess you're right, although I think that, while the cultural background is not "the point" and is not directly addressed, it is a necessary implication. All the DeLorean/lightning/clock towers stuff happens in the material world, it does not invalidate the fact that Doc and Marty are white Americans from the eighties.

It is a part of their characters, that is. And I just don't see it working and being non-OOC - not so much because of the actual historical conditions as because of their personalities.

In any case, I think that "realistic" shipping is fascinating. This is probably the only kind of shippy fic I'd read for the relationship dynamics. Unfortunately, people really don't seem to be interested in it.

It's just another kink, no more, no less.

I wanna say it's a fairly common thing across the board, regardless of the fandom, but I...actively avoid it, so I wouldn't actually know. I do know that if there's a popular m/m pairing in the fandom, there's usually a percentage of mpreg fic written about them, regardless of the setting. I think people are already willing to not give a damn about the particulars of a universe's physical laws if they're writing mpreg in the first place...
