Yeah... I mean, I understand that Erica is the only female wolf so she provides an interesting dynamic, Boyd is fucking awesome and his actor is also really awesome so ugh just no.

And when people keep writing in Jackson, god it PISSES me off. Yes, let's continue to write in the white douchebag played by an even bigger, racist douchebag. I usually stop reading when I see it.

But mostly because it's also a very easy indication of when someone has Pack Mom Stiles syndrome, and all of the characters are extremely OOC anyway.

Oh man, this is kind of random, but the Pack Mom topic just made me think of that hilarious shit where the Pack Mom people use that picture of Stiles "protecting" Erica and Isaac from Jackson/Kanima... when it reality he had his arms spread out, blocking them against the door that the kanima was behind.

I just can't even. These people do not understand context.

Or that out of all of the characters Boyd had the absolute least amount of character development and people have no idea what to do with that. His character was basically "giant quite dude in the background".

I've read a lot of fic that leave Boyd out but still have Morrell and Deaton - do you still consider that racist?

Boyd definitely got the shaft, character development-wise, but I thought that had to do with Sinqua Walls scheduling making him have less screen time.

Still, considering how Boyd barely has a handful of details to work with (and only a last name), it makes me wonder how some fic can get him so wrong. Sometimes he's driving his own car.

That is not a hurtle. People were writing Blaise Zabini fic long before they even knew if he was a boy or a girl, let along a character of color. There is an entire fandom that's sprung up overnight to the "swimming anime", of which there isn't even a full clip of, or voices, or anything really. Fanons have been hung from less.

Does it really matter, when most of the time the other characters are included with a "and Erica, Isaac and Jackson were watching TV on the couch in the corner"? Just add Boyd there yourself, and you'll be good to go.

I feel this way about Avengers fandom, as well; if you include Clint, Loki and Nick Fury in your fanart, but no Natasha, I'm going to raise an eyebrow.

Seriously, what the ever loving fuck? Um, newsflash, but I'm pretty sure people can draw whatever the hell they want. If I want to draw a piece of fanart with Loki, Clint, and Nick Fury in it then I freakin' will. What, because I don't include Natasha or Darcy I'm automatically sexist or anti-feminist or whateverthefuck? Ugh, please.

I can't even count the number of times I've went through periods where I've drawn men exclusively, or women exclusively, or one gender more often than the other. In some fandoms I draw more men than women, and in other fandoms it's the opposite. I draw the women of Teen Wolf all the fucking time but I rarely, if ever, draw the women from Merlin. You're SO VERY OBVIOUSLY not an artist because you would get that you draw what AESTHETICALLY APPEALS TO YOU. Maybe some people just don't find Natasha appealing. Are they sexist or misogynistic for that?

But there are quite a few non-white characters besides Boyd that are frequently featured in fic.

Tbh I haven't really run into this. Any fic I've read that doesn't have Boyd also is missing Erica. I think I've only read one AU fic that didn't include Boyd and only had Erica in to be the Evil Bitch character. It was a pretty crappy story anyway.

1) What fics have YOU been reading, OP? I have literally read hundreds of TW fic and can honestly say that only a handful of them have excluded Boyd for whatever reason when Erica had otherwise remained. Usually, like 95% of the time, Boyd goes where Erica goes. So I don't know where this is coming from.

2) I hope you realize that Scott isn't white. Or Danny. Just pointing that out.

3) Also, it isn't like Boyd has all that much of a presence. He's not interesting enough to make an intricate back story for, either. He's literally just the big silent dude in the corner-- in both canon and fanon. I barely pay attention to his character in fic unless he's doing something particularly worthwhile, because let's be honest, he really isn't much of an important OR interesting character. His skin color certainly doesn't make him so.

4) I'm not white. Just thought I should mention that before I'm accused of being racist or whatever.

Well, it is Teen Wolf fandom, so what do you expect? It is all about Stiles and Sterek for a large portion of the fandom. There is subtle (and not-so-subtle) racism throughout the fandom, but most fans ignore it because they are so ~progressive~ by supporting a gay (imaginary) pairing.

I am tempted to be on your side, but it's more residual bitterness because IDGAF about Isaac and I do think Boyd get's ignored too much in his favour. I quite like Boyd and I haven't noticed him being excluded in post S2 fics at all, I more notice when people write AUs in which only the white male members of the cast exist.
Boyd is gorgeous and charismatic, but he got screwed over in the shitshow of a plot they threw together...

I don't know the fandom, but do they at least make a point of explaining - either in the a/n or the story - why these character are back or never left, just like any AU would explain how the fic's premise is different from canon?

(For example, if I wrote NCIS these days it'd likely still be in 'Kate never died!' mode, but I'd provide an explanation to avoid confusing people.)

And is the black character omitted from everyday situations where they logically would be, again with no explanation for their absence?

In those cases, yes, it's a bit odd.
