Yeah, the way this arc has dragged on is starting to upset me. I want him to be better than this, even though it makes more sense that he's not. It's funny to me when he argues with the other guys about it, but when it actually involves the women it's just uncomfortable and sad and I want it to stop before it gets any worse.

Exactly! He has five heads! He'll never make up his mind and get anything done. Even in his promotion he could stick to one thing. Faceless Old Woman has initiative and direction.

there's not actually any guarantee that it'll happen

If OP has gotten to the point where they have Professors instead of just teachers, then I highly doubt they are actually being taught this bullshit.

I think what happened is that they got perfectly adequate education that they completely ignored because they were trapped in a sparkly haze of IMA GONNA BE A RITOR UF BOOKS AH LUV WERDS

I feel you on the accent thing, it crops up sometimes in Hobbit fic and it always pulls me out a bit(especially in one memorable case where the written dialogue for two characters gave them accents they don't have).

But to be fair though sometimes an author can pull it off and make it work, but most of the time it doesn't for me.

Dar she blows!

She's hardly the first terrible person or terrible writer to get published, and hardly the first to get a fanbase. Publishers don't care what's good, they care about what will sell.

Use it as motivation to write something better and show them up.

Pretty much this. All my teachers taught us the opposite of that and were frankly surprised when we were still sitting in class by the end.

:)

I don't always have something to say when people vent here, but I do read the comments and always hope the other person finds help or feels better.

Yeah, seriously.

ayrt

A friend of a friend once literally shoved his novel into my hands within two minutes of meeting him.

Oh god, it was the most amazingly bad thing I've ever read. Like, it was literally incomprehensible. I read it all the way through, and I still have no clue what it was about, except that there were robots in it.

Lately, it has often been more interesting than the secrets anyway.

Shame on me for clicking on this without realizing I hadn't seen the ep...that's okay. I think that's probably the right course, but I also thought there was a Schmidt/Cece endgame. But who knows, maybe it'll come again (I say without having seen how it actually played out).

H/W writers have a lot of theories. Mostly involving things that are not needles being stuck into other places than forearms...

I'm gonna need some context for the terms used here. What does "magic" mean in this context?
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-10-04 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Because shit like that gives me hope of getting published. If she can then I think I'm doing okay.

If you wanna quit, fine. If you don't, don't. Don't base your life choices off of someone else. Do what you want and what is best for you, specifically.

But the actual published work isn't plagiasm.

Basically morons are angry over old Harry Potter fanfic beef. Her work isn't worse than most other shit that makes lots of money.

Okay, I can get that someone might be that level of shy...but...I cannot get that they didn't MAKE A FUCKING EFFORT. Social skills are like other skills; a lot of people do not have the natural aptitude (and some have disabilities that hamper their efforts) but you can tell when people are trying, and it's only by trying and getting experience that you are ever going to figure out how to pull the whole thing off. Saying 'thanks' and offering to cover your share of the tab is pretty basic stuff if you give half a fuck; this person does not even give one quarter of a fuck about how to treat people irl I guess.

They've apparently been tracking down the places that have broken the street dates and giving them some sort of repercussions and they've been *trying* to contain the leaks by taking down the leakers' posting area but haven't had much luck as they've been fairly widespread. They can't take charges against people who have bought games at places where the street dates have been broken, because they haven't done anything wrong. Some reviewers have apparently also gotten repercussions because they've leaked news.

A digital-only release would be a lot more feasible if they don't want leaks next release, but it's gonna be a lot more than a year before digital-only is standard.

Writers write. If you are not writing, because you've given up out of what is basically envy and spite, then no, you are not a writer.
