Did y'all miss the scene where instead of using his magical time machine to let Rose have a few hours with her mom after her mom had been missing her for a year, the Doctor called Rose and was all "there's an awesome nebula and the train is leaving the station!"?

Nine could be a total dickbag too.

Also, Harriet Jones DID just slaughter a ship full of thousands of beings.

ALSO ALSO Ten is punished narratively for his actions because removing Harriet from power created the power vacuum that allowed Saxon to rise to power.

I think that scene makes a lot of people angry because of the sly, underhanded way that he facilitated Harriet's removal. I understand and totally agree with his reasoning for what he did, but I still felt really uncomfortable when he did it.

He was being a dick after she had a reasonable argument in her favor: he can't actually always be counted upon to come and do what he said he would do, which was be humanity's protector in time of urgent crisis.

As for the Ninth doctor and the nebula, the sense I got was that he wasn't being so much deliberately cruel as just not in touch with basic human connection; didn't Rose give him what for on that, anyway?

There's a different between being a dick and being arrogant enough to think you have the right to remove a political leader on a planet that isn't your own just because you dislike the choice they made. Harriet Jones' actions, while the wrong choice, are not remotely the same as say the Daleks and were done to protect her country and world. The Doctor didn't have the right.

I'm not sure whether or not Nine would have done the same, but what Ten did there to Harriet to me is different from any other action he (or any other New Who Doctor) takes (apart from changing fixed history in Waters of Mars).

Yeah, this is why I skipped 10 and went straight to 11. I know I should go back to watch 10, and I might eventually, but rn? I don't see a reason to.

The Prime Minister of Britain destroyed a spaceship full of aliens (like several thousand aliens) who had said that they would leave the Earth alone in the future.

The Doctor did not take kindly to that and said that to get her removed from power.

Nine totally would have done that. I've always thought it was far more IC for Nine than Ten, tbh. It was a long time (in his timeline) before Ten ever did anything even remotely like this again (Waters of Mars). Both are cases of him abusing his authority.

Yeah, but Seven would have just held his tongue and then her limo would have mysteriously exploded or something. Three would have done that, shooting a fleeing enemy in the back would have pissed him off, One would have been okay with it and so would Six. Five would just have been depressed.

Every incarnation is a bit different. None of them would have been happy with the shooting of a fleeing enemy. She basically showed herself as no different than the non-human he sent plummeting to his death for trying to shove a sword in his back.

Ugh, this is my least favorite part of Ten's run. It's weird since I think RTD meant for Ten to come across as slightly dickish but ultimately right... But then he contradicts that with both the Master taking over the UK as well as with the third season of Torchwood, so IDEK.

Seriously I love that I am not the only one who felt this way. I reacted really negatively to him doing that. (Not that I was ok with Harriet at that point either. I certainly was not. But his reaction did nothing to stop what had happened. I felt it was just for his own vindictiveness and it was so underhanded and awful) also I was butthurt because nine only had one season so I hadn't expected ten to show up so soon

Meh, I just rewatched the new series and I have to say, Ten is hypocritical asshole. He doesn't mind that people die sacrificing themselves for him (tooth and claw really shows how much he doesn't care about unimportant humans), but god forbid they should be allowed to defend themselves while they do so because guns are evil.
