Although actually a lot of the time when I see Fuller talking about the Hannibal/Will relationship and talking about love... I think it comes off as more being about Hannibal being intrigued by Will and being fascinated by him and enjoying messing with his mind.

But like there's no REAL love there.

It's fucked up.

I really can't imagine a situation with that happening now that Will knows the truth about Hannibal. Short of Hannibal forcing himself onto Will (something which I feel would be out of character for Hannibal) I really don't think it's a feasible thing any more. I think the chance has been missed, if it were going to happen it had the best chance of happening before the last episode.

Slightly OT but I hate this excuse of "queer representation" so much.

If people who use this argument really cared about it they would actually ask for more queer characters instead of hopping and asking for their (usually popular in fandom) ships to be canon.

how about we ask for openly queer characters who get involved in (at least moderately) healthy relationships with other openly queer characters?

Because obviously people who want queer representation should be happy about any bone you throw them and just love whatever queer character they get, right? It's completely absurd for them to hope that some of the main characters they love turn out to be queer. No. I don't want shows to introduce "the new gay character". I want shows to say after several seasons, "surprise, oh, we didn't mention before that our main character is gay/bi? well, he is, and it doesn't change anything about who he has been for these past seasons."

Sucks that straight people or fans or straight pairings never have to worry about other fans dismissing their pairings as "slash." Sucks that you are always able to wonder about 99% of your straight pairings and the chance that they may happen, but queer tension between two characters with unspecified orientations won't happen.

And that we should just settle for "gay characters" rather than hope that pairings we like become canon.

Agreed, agreed. I'd far sooner see a show introduce a queer character than have a character who is set up as heterosexual 'turn gay' after a few seasons for the sake of a ship.

Secret 4 - Hannibal (TV series)

I don't get why so many people in the Hannibal fandom think that Hannibal/Will could never happen in canon. Bryan Fuller says it is already in play emotionally and mentally, and that fans should "never say never" when it comes to seeing the two kiss. So it is a possibility, at least.

Personally, I hope it does happen. Not because I ship Hannibal/Will, but because I want to see more queer representation in TV. (No matter how fucked up the relationship might be). As a queer woman, I'm just happy to see a show-runner is even considering adding such a thing to their show.

Seriously though, Fuller is just saying things that won't rile up the fandom when he doesn't take its suggestions for serious. It's not a knee-jerk "no", but it's also not a coy, "maaaaaaybe ;)" Dude is smart about it imo.

Fuller is the captain of this ship, I swear. I get why people are pessimistic about these things, but I don't know, I don't see it as just baiting when it comes from a showrunner who's gay himself and who's extremely respectful of the fans. Even if nothing ever happens for whatever reason, he gets it in a way the straight ones typically don't. It seems a little shortsighted to say "x will never happen" on a show this bizarre and unusual anyway, and I'd have trouble seeing Hannibal himself as 100% any orientation. Crazy in love with beauty in various forms + insatiable curiosity = open to all kinds of boning with all kinds of people, to my mind.

Are we watching the same show? There was nothing romantic about their relationship. Zero. That's why Hannibal/Will will never happen.

Well, it's not inconceivable but the main obstacle people see is that Will now knows he's a cannibal serial killer. Which with this show is probably not actually as much of an obstacle as it would be elsewhere. But personally I want Will to be getting one over on Hannibal now, I like the character and would rather he didn't continue to be fucked over. (Though of course there would be ways of doing it where he was in control.) And as you say it *is* already there emotionally.

I've kind of weirded myself out with this comment.
