There was a time when I always read the TWP forums. But now, no longer. It was a great place to read discussions once upon a time. LJ was a good place as well, but fandom has migrated all over the place. If you can get a discussion brewing, I have seen a few good posts on Tumblr. Of course, reblogging isn't the same as posting a comment and creating a big ass thread.

It's probably not OP's intention, but I feel like the B!S is just completely ignoring/erasing the existence of all the other awesome and badass female characters in that show.

Other than that...yeah, I don't get the hype, either. He's short and angry. Whoop-de-friggin-ding.

Awww, a H2G2 secret <3 I'm glad you like it! This is one of my favourite books. Of course it has its flaws - flat characters being the most notable of them - but the writing technique and the idea are lovely. There's so much wonder at the way science (the theory of probability in particular) works.

I think the screen version of this makes the characters three-dimensional again but somewhat reduces the quality of everything else; nevertheless, it was filmed with obvious affection for both H2G2 and Douglas Adams himself, and it is a good contribution to the franchise. Redheaded Martin Freeman as Arthur is adorable, and so is black Ford Prefect.

Yours is the reason I never expect things to be too good - then there's no disappointment in the end.

It may have to do with the setting- HP takes place on a fictionalized Earth, in nearly modern times, while ASoiF/GoT uses an entirely original setting. Having Harry Potter acquire a copy of his own canon doesn't require quite as much explanation as Tyrion walking into a Barnes & Noble or a book falling through an interdimensional rift and landing at Sansa's feet.

...Or I may be attempting to apply too much logic here and it could just be a side effect of different fandom demographics.

Anyone familiar with other high fantasy fandoms (LoTR, Wheel of Time, ElfQuest, etc), do you tend to see any fics with that sort of premise?

What drama? I know there were some issues during 9's run but it sounded like it was all something very typical of a show first going into production that didn't know the challenges they were going to face.

I am serious though I'd like to know the specific drama that bothered you OP.

There's this sort of weird intermediary period after a fandom dies out, where getting into that series is considered being "late to the show," but if you wait long enough, it's "resurrecting a classic." Or something. But yeah, it's more about the fandom, not the age of the work, and Shakespeare fandom is sort of a sub-fandom of historical fandom (or at least, that's how I think of it), so it being old is kind of the point.
