Honestly, anyone in "the wider fandom world" who looks down on you can go fart in a paper bag, OP.

(But I do understand, perhaps what you feel, and all I can say is -- if you really feel that uncomfortable, adopt a new fandom name for your "more grown up" fandom activities. That's what I did for quite a few years until I stopped being as embarrassed that I started out writing fanfic for a children's card game :p)

That's kind of how history works, I guess. Things get more distant and we feel less strongly about their tragic aspect. Our emotional response to it fades away. I don't think that's bad or inappropriate - it would be kind of impossible to feel the full emotional weight of everything all the time.

But maybe I'm just saying that because I always liked that movie.

There's always going to be assholes who start whining and moaning if any kind of diversity-related thing comes anywhere near their fandom. They're jerks. The best way to stay safe is probably to make up a new tag for those posts until you feel more comfortable with a wider audience.

I don't know about demand but you could say that you think they owe you an apology. Personally I wouldn't though. An apology doesn't mean much to me if I have to ask for it.
