You can play as a qunari female - not the same as a companion, but pretty sweet, IMO.

No, but keep us posted on how you do, I'd be interested in trying, too.

Re: Fanwork for old fandoms

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oldest and most obscure? Probably a Wives and Daughters fanfic, based on a book written by Elizabeth Gaskell in the mid 1800s. It's a lot of pointless smut but I'd still like to finish it and quietly sneak it up on the internet somewhere.

Man, that's a kink smorgasbord.

Rude. I like to think I know a lot about being a weeaboo, anon.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Weeaboo doesn't mean anything at this point.

It's gone the way of SJW and is just a catch-all insult for anyone interested in anime.

I'm pretty excited for him, even if I did also prefer the qunari designs of DA2. And Freddy Prinz Jr. honestly seems so excited to be voicing this character and the DA universe in general that I'm like: "D'awww. OK FP Jr. You do your thing."

Captain America: The Winter Soldier/Chobits

Howard Stark worked with Shield on a short-lived project to create robotic soldiers in the hopes of replacing the effective strength of Captain America, but the project was publicly shelved after his death.

After being nearly killed in his own house by Obadiah, Tony Stark made use of the research, and updated it, to create a robotic body for JARVIS to upload to in times of crisis to physically help him. After a few updates the robot became shockingly lifelike, and Tony started manufacturing them for hospital use under the more friendly name 'persocom'.

Secretly, HYDRA had never shelved Howard's robotic research, it was instead melded with The Winter Soldier project. The rise of persocom use and popularity rapidly makes it easier for him to blend in.

After Steve recognizes him as Bucky they believe he is a persocom based on Bucky, until the computerizes Zola tells them he actually is Bucky, his computer enhanced brain the only part of his original body left - kept because they couldn't be sure all the little human things that made him the perfect Soldier would translate in a direct download to a computerized format as Zola's was imperfect and it wasn't attempted again.

Re: How would you define a "vintage" fandom?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
... but the post-2000 sequels AND the planned JJ Abrams episode VII doesn't disqualify it?

Re: Do you guys think this article relates to slash fanfic?

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2014-07-02 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it relates to the actual gay content on the show, afaik.

But yeah, it's the same dynamic. Not all women who watched say, Queer as Folk, are into slash fic, but there's a significant overlap.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know about anyone else, but I'd totally watch Danny DeVito play the Hulk.

Oh no people like something you don't whatever shall you do? Surely not get the fuck over it.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep! I saw this and shrieked "OMG, surprise Julian Sands!" (...I've had a crush on him for 13 years, and he was my inspiration to get into acting.)

Re: Do you ever rewatch depressing episodes/movies to make yourself sad on purpose?

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2014-07-02 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but I sometimes watch sad things to make me feel better/motivate myself though, even though that sounds weird. But not specifically to be sad.

Ikr? She never identified as a man, and she was being forced to present as one. I don't see what about that is transphobic. There was a whole lot of nasty shit going on with that particular part of the case, but transphobia wasn't it.

I would have preferred Robin to be an overcompensating boy who loves to look pretty. But no. I just kept thinking, "wait what? Wait wait wait, go back to the part where your folk raised you as a boy? That seems like a big deal why the fuck did that happen are you okay? What wait what no stop twirling and go back a few steps to this thing that was a pretty big deal just a second ago."

I've had the "Final Bell" theme from Rocky stuck in my head for the last few days, the bit that kicks about 14 ish seconds in. It is driving me mad. A couple of weeks ago I got Heather Alexander's "Uffington Horse" stuck in my brain too. I swear I have no idea how this happens.

I just really really want to see Daniel Radcliffe and Roger Rees play either son and father or younger and older versions of the same character. The resemblance is uncanny!

Now I'm just thinking of that Face Forward book.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
(not the OP)

It might be but I've blocked that out. That movie was a scary freakshow on so many levels...

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You know nothing about /a/ then. /a/ loves shows like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Kino's Journey, Princess Tutu, Cardcaptor Sakura or Mushishi. Not saying that they don't watch a lot of crap too, but thanks to them I discovered some great shows with zero sexualized characters and violence.

For cramps, try taking a little bit more magnesium. It can be bought over the counter in any local pharmacy in a liquid form that doesn't taste half bad and usually gets rid of the issue.

Dizziness and nausea might be helped by diphenhydramine tablets if there are no contraindications.

Drink lots of water, get lots of rest, and give your body some time to adjust. Steer clear of coffee and eat something light and neutral flavored like plain bread, or my personal post-nausea standby: saltine crackers and consommé broth.

Distract yourself whenever possible. Getting your mind off of your physical condition will help immensely with being able to bear it until things get sorted out. Stupid action movies, video games, or doing something light with your hands (like puzzles or baking) are all great options.
