7. Might I suggest the Star Ocean and Tales of series? Also, while it technically still is kiiiind of turn based (actually, scratch that, it's not turn based at all), FF12 has a pretty neat battle system. And the other Manas are all action RPGs, so no need to worry there!

And while I fucking ADORE LUNAR and turn based combat in general, I can see how it's not for everyone, so.

The other Mana games aren't turn based, though. Secret of Mana uses a menu for magic and item use, but aside from that it's more like KH with the running around and swinging your weapon yourself. Seiken Densetsu 3 is the same. And they're both wonderful, so...? :o

HOLY FUCK ARE YOU MY LONG-LOST TWIN?

I hate turn-based battle systems with a fiery, burning passion, to the point that it won't matter to me how excellent the story or characters are. I just want to do the fighting myself, goddammit. None of that select -> Attack/Item/Retreat bullshit.

The only game I could stand it in was Pokemon, and that was just by a hair.
