Soccer slash, Criminal Minds, Numb3rs...a lot of sci-fi stuff as well.

31. I've had a manipulative, cruel, very much imperfect interpretation of faeries bouncing around in my head for a few years now. I really do need to get around to writing that story down...

48. ... I kind of agree. Not because people shouldn't be able to express their love of fandom. I have no issues with seeing other students wearing anime hoodies or t-shirts, even from shows I don't particularly care for. Think I even saw a girl wearing a Cloud City Leia outfit once, or at least it looked a whole lot like it. That was kind of cool in its originality and gutsiness, even if I wouldn't do it myself. But if I saw one of those Naruto headbands? Probably would prompt a mental eye-roll.

My problem with them is that, to me, they look cheaply made and kind of ridiculous. I dunno. Probably doesn't help that I really have never been able to get into the show. (Yes, I've seen a few episodes.)

[identity profile] terrie.livejournal.com 2007-12-04 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)

22. What ... yaoi is its own fandom now?

42. I have never read Naruto BUT OH MY GOD I AGREE. If something has a horrible font, I just can't get into it. D:

3. On a completely tangential side note, what's with the recent trend of people naming their character journals variations on "(adjective-related-to-character)ly"? I don't... really get it. Of course, I am terrible at character journal names -- mine tend to be either terribly unoriginal things like [livejournal.com profile] slightly_anemic (for a Hyatt, from Excel Saga, journal) or dumb not-very-funny jokes like [livejournal.com profile] ninjaofthenet, so I may not be one to talk.

7. Your loss.

13. Is that Auron? I don't 'ship them, but their limit break is badass.

22. ... Why is Tomoya getting walled by his annoying friend (whose name eludes me)? ... I'm about five episodes behind, here.

29. ... I know the feeling. I know I'm being sort of unreasonable and some people do care about me and my characters, but still... Sometimes I wish I even got negative feedback, because then at least I'd know someone noticed I was there.

31. Agreed. I feel the same way about fairies (or rather, "faeries"), not to mention noble elves and angsty vampires with hearts of gold.

34. By "not familiar with," do you mean "have never played before" or "have never actually read/watched the canon of"? (If it's the latter, I've never really understood why people do that...)

43. Parasite Eve! I remember playing that when I was way too young for it really. It disturbed me, but doesn't seem to have left me with any lasting fear of mitochondria. I can see why it would, though.

45. I know the feeling, to some extent. I'm in two crack commentspam RPs (which are great and all, but...), and I'd like to go back to more serious prose RPing, but I don't really want to go back to messageboards, and most decent-quality, serious LJ RPs that I've seen involve playing over IM, which I've never really liked. I may suck it up and join one anyway, but... it's frustrating.

... Man, I'm talkative today.

1. I think Linderman and Adam's views are different from Light's and the twins', buuuuut... well, I suppose that doesn't make much of a difference from your perspective, and it could just be construed as a difference in degree rather than a real discrepancy in their ideologies, but NEVERMIND, I'LL SHUT UP NOW, I SWEAR.

18. I DON'T BLAME YOU IN THE SLIGHTEST. DDDD: Threading with any form of significant other would be.. yeah. ._.;;; Um. Good... luck..? D: I dunno what to say here, sorry.

Yeah, no I agree. Linderman and Adam's views were radically different from Light's and the twins'. Namely that neither Linderman nor Adam really cared who they killed.

But they all felt they had the right to make the decisions they did for the good of humanity and hearing people agree with them all is equally frightening.

01. Well, I don't know the fandom of the first one (I'm guessing Heroes, because David Anders? But I don't know their characters) but Light and the Saints are pretty different. One big point seperates them, I think: Light kills anyone who gets in his way. The twins only kill those who sin greatly, not even people who commit little crimes (Light kills a lot of petty criminals, too). I'm a big believer in capital punishment, so sue me. I believe rapists and murders do not deserve to live. If that means you lose faith in me, so be it. Whenever I hear of people begging for the lives of violent criminals, my faith in humanity dwindles a bit, too.
Edited 2007-12-04 22:58 (UTC)

1 OP

(Anonymous) 2007-12-05 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Of course it's not that. It's the fact that forcibly self imposed vigilantism has no place in our society. I don't necessarily feel that anyone the twins killed deserved to live and I agree that the would is probably better off without people like them. However, the legal system is in place to protect the innocent, whereas Light's and even the Twins methods (albeit to a lesser extent) ended up being sheer terrorism and they operated by scaring people into behaving the way they wanted.

36-- Oh please. We must not be in the same Inuyasha fandom because canon shippers are if anything in a slight minority. It did not used to be this way, but it's really the hardcore canon shippers that are less big now. The fandom is overpowered with alternative shippers and Sesshoumaru/Kagome is the pairing of choice. It's true InuSan is not the most popular of ships but you're hardly close to... the only fan.

[identity profile] briteskies.livejournal.com 2007-12-04 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I am unfamiliar with the first people, but knowing Light and the twins, I can take a guess. I actually can't say that I disagree with them. Then again they are fictional. The idea of "ridding the world of evil" isn't a bad one though. And judging by the popularity of Death Note and Boondock Saints I think many would say it's makes a good story and interesting atypical anti-heros. I'm not going to deny I didn't really want anyone but Light to have the Death Note. I don't want the twins to stop what they're doing. Idealy, sure I agree with them on some level I suppose. There are bad people in the world that have abused their right to exist with socioty. Were they to exist in true reality I don't know that I could say the same however. And maybe it's naive of me, but most people are probably the same. We KNOW the character's reasoning for doing what they are doing, and they are created so that the audience with understand them. A real life person though - we'd all lable as a sociopath with a god complex and lock them away forever.

11. Agreed! I love Yuna so much. She is one of my favourite fictional female chracters, just on the scope of fictional females in general because of her delicate and graceful strength.

9. AMEN, OP. ♥ I used to rant about that so much. Albel/Nel drives me absolutely bonkers. I don't think he's homosexual per se, I think he's more attracted to people who can challenge him. I can see why Nel fits that description, but it wouldn't work for so many other reasons (Nel/Clair, Aquaria vs. Airyglyph, his lack of remorse for killing lots of her people, etc.). Maria and Mirage might qualify, but I think they probably have better things to do than try to deal with him.

I managed to justify all this stuff when I RPed him more often. XD; Now I'm just trying to remember it all. I don't think he's gay beyond a doubt, but I don't think he meshes well with any of the women in his canon, either.

21. That. Is some serious awesome. XD

45. Instant messenger logs? The ones with actions in brackets, or the ones that are done entirely in prose in an IM (or several) and then made into one big post? The first isn't so bad, but the latter can be quite annoying. If you can find one where people just post prose in threads, that's a lot of fun. It's just tricky trying to find a good place.

1. Can sort of relate, though thankfully, my RLfriends don't agree with him. Seriously, Light's regime was basically facism that could've easily devolved to "you look at me funny, you die" given time and his sanity. I can't support it, particularly when you make parallels with it and other completely psychotic amoral dictator's regimes.

3. XD Those guys were great! I should really look up their RP, because their exchange was so enjoyable.

... You know, I liked a lot of the secrets today, yet I can't think of anything to comment to the others. Jolly good show, though! Pip pip!

Lords and Ladies by Terry Pratchett. It's an excellent book, and the fair folk are definitely not portrayed like they're oh-so-perfect.

7. I recommend trying out Star Ocean games. :3

9. I personally find it difficult to ship Albel with most people in SO3, female or male. I don't think there's anything wrong with pairing him with other charas, though. (But I do admit Albel/Nel makes very little sense. I mean, opposing countries and the fact Nel doesn't seem interested in men ANYWAY.) And, I dunno if what he wears should really be the strongest case in a "why so-and-so character is gay" argument. I will give you that he is kind of obsessed with Fayt, though. But, yeah, just my two cents. There are probably other people out there who understand Albel's character better than I do anyway.

18. Oh man, hahahah, I can kind of relate to this. A friend of mine was really, really wanting to know the date of the next application cycle for Damned, and I was like e.e; 'cause the idea of us threading together really freaked me out. Especially since, with a few obvious exceptions, I try to keep most of my real-life friends out of my online hobbies and fandoms.

21. Awww, don't be shy! ♥ We don't bite. :DDD And I ship it too, so I wouldn't be opposed if you revealed yourself. JUST SAYIN'.

44. That whole arc was really wibble-worthy, wasn't it? ;_; The very, very end was what made me bawl, though.

45. I haven't been part of a game that uses AIM logs in a year and a half. The one I'm in now does everything over LJ. At first I was kind of D: because I wasn't used to playing in a game that didn't use AIM, but now I'm loving it. :3 So, yeah, there are other games out there that don't use AIM for RPing at all. Just gotta look.

1. I hear you, it honestly kinda creeps me out a bit too.

2. The reason I got into BLEACH in the first place was the cool chapter covers and the awesome fashion. I am so jealous of his clothing ideas, WHERE DOES HE GET THEM?! I would love to have clothes like that.

11. In my opinion, I don't dislike Yuna but I don't hate her. However, I respect her as a character, I mean she is so emotionally and mentally resilent and strong. People bash her all the time without ever actually puttin themselves in her actual position, which is pretty sad. =/

14. Me too. x3

17. AHHH, KHFFR!! I love that wacky comm., and I am SO tempted to write/draw something like that, even though I've never seen any of the Highschool Musicals. [If it had to be in the KH verse, I'd say Hawaii, with Lilo and Stich.]

36. I thought it was kind of cute, but it doesn't quite suit my tastes. But if you like it, go ahead!

44. *fights the urge to watch these 2 episodes even though I've barely watched One Piece*

11. I fucking love you. ♥

27. LMFAO, as someone who took a course on forensics and fancies criminal law as a future career.. Phoenix Wright's version of the "law" is so hilarious. It's just so. lkajsdghalkj SO FAR from anything close to being remotely realistic that. that's the reason WHY I love it. I mean, burden of proof aside - the prosecution is entitled to, uh. DO THINGS, like present its case and cross-examine the defense's witnesses and ALL THAT BASIC STUFF. it's not just. you know. cross-examination on the defense's part. and the idea of a lawyer wandering around with a metal detector until "oh look I found a clue!" is just. lmfao. but I have a history with loving things that are hilariously bad.

45. uh, there is? I mean. AIM logs are something you never, ever have to bother with if you don't want to. there is always the alternative of threading. in my experience, threading happens more often than logging anyway. what sort of things have you been looking at? (honest question, since I'm wondering if I could point you elsewhere.)

RE: 45

(Anonymous) 2007-12-04 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I've not looked anywhere specific. I have this bad habit of seeing an RP that has a premise I like, looking through a few random posts and seeing what characters are taken, then realising I'm just punching myself in the face and forget about it.

In truth I don't like the third person comment threading on LJ either. If I want to write third person prose, I'll write fanfic. If I want to write third person prose with another author, I'll do a collaboration. I don't like the way those threads read at all, with the stilted speech and replies. I'm being picky, I know. I'm sorry - thank you for your advice/help, though.
