I fail to see how a show that integrates multiple cultures (and incorporates research on those cultures well) is more "weeabo" than a show that takes a western comic series and then goes and applies a J-pop theme by J-pop artists to it.

But then, I'm not expecting much from anyone on here who says they lose respect for someone over one thing.

24

[identity profile] ex-boots847.livejournal.com 2008-01-26 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, I know. I wasn't expecting it to be such a great story. I just thought there would be a lot of violence and shit. But it's even better with the friendship and the random lulz and lskafjasf ♥♥♥

5. Thank you. It pisses me off that people think they can dictate what other people's sexual preferences are solely based off of how they discovered them.

26. I haven't seen much Avatar, but wait, wait, wait. So you'll admit a show is relatively good, admit it's decently-written, and yet you not only hate it but hate the people who watch it due to the sole fact that it's based on anime with Asian cultural influences, and thus "weaboo" (which you misspelled btw, LULZ)?

I can only conclude that you are either a troll or a pretentious idiot. :X

30. ...GOD DAMN YOU, SECRET-MAKER. MY LIFE WILL NEVER BE COMPLETE NOW. whyyyyyyyyyyyy

13. wait what? whats so horrible about someone drawing a character as an animal? i think you're misjudging motives here... i mean, i've drawn a character or two as animals before, i thought it was fun. i see a bunch of people going "i saw someone draw ___ as animals and it was TERRIBLE!"

but.. i dont understand whats terrible? why does seeing it offend you? has the internet conditioned you to hate something that from an onlookers standpoint, is nothing more than "oh hey someone drew ___ as a kitty lol thats cute"

no seriously. im like thinking and thinking trying to find out what is so revulting about it. cant other people just have their fun? i have a feeling theyre not trying to say "hey this guy magically became an animal"... theyre just doing it just cus. like my sister, she tends to draw hamtaro styled characters because it's what she draws best. shes not saying "all character should look like hamtaro" shes saying "well i draw these guys best and i really like this character so im gonna mix them yay!"

tl;dr: I DONT GET IT. I'm not even a furry but I don't understand what is so DEEPLY OFFENDING about harmlessly drawing a character as an anthro. The only way I can imagine raging about seeing a furry is because that's what other people have FED to you about how you SHOULD feel.

26.) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh wait you were serious?

Avatar?

Weeaboo?

Please to be doing some research, kthnx. It's an amazingly complex and well-written series if you look past the "OMG MADE IN AMERICA" thing. Freaking elitists.

Firstly, two Monkey Island secrets in one day? Awesome. My childhood smiles in approval.

9. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. If graphics were such a big deal to people, there would be no Super Nintendos left in the world. Plus, Monkey Island's awesomeness lies in the adventuring and pirate-insulting.

19. Yes, but plz never have a beard ever again, Guybrush. ;_;

30. ... Oddly enough, a friend and I were discussing this the other day. XD Though, we were thinking more along the lines of an "OBJECTION!" item that blocked the screen like the Nintendog.

Gah, I love Johnny Lingo.

Re: 36

Johnny Lingo had a cow, trade it for an ugly wife, Johnny Lingo's married now, he'll be sorry all his life!

...you know, I just realized that if I ever saw that movie written as a fanfic, I'd probably write Mahana off as some weird variant of Mary Sue.

(And now I want to look and see if someone has actually written fanfic for either movie.)

I liked Chobits when I was reading it back in high school and I really liked Dita and Zima, until CLAMP revealed that were just some more PersoCOMS and I felt cheated. Like CLAMP got lazy with them like they did with the whole stupid ending of the CHOBITS manga.

I still don't like the ending to Chobits. It felt like a cop-out and I didn't like the message in the end. HEY IT'S OK TO LIVE WITH A FANTASY IN THE END. Sorry, Chii will and always will be only a robot to me. Hideki decerved to be with a real women.

Sorry, THAT got off topic. It's just nice to rant about Chobits somewhere outside of /a/ for once, where someone might actually read what I say.

11. GO FOR IT. Take little bits of their already established personalities (even tiny little bitty traits) and RUN WITH IT. I know how you feel, but it's alot of fun to flesh out character's personalities and attributes.
13. As much as furries irritate the shit out of me and I find the idea of furrifying humans hilarious, I saw someone fucking humanifying Mickey Mouse, Donald and Goofy the other day and it CREEPED ME THE FUCK OUT
32. lol you 'dint' want them to fuck up your fandoms?

13. Furrys i my fandom creep me out. I believe everyone should be allowed to enjoy what they enjoy, but I really am not a big fan of seeing established chracters drawn into furs. Sonic the Hedgehog, sure that's fine. Akamaru? That's pushing it, but ok. But Ed and Al as badgers or something? I'm sorry but I will have to politely decline. I have friends into furry it some days worries me I know more than I should about it.

26. Does it make me a weeabo for liking Avatar asides from a ton of other animation programs, asian, not, and dying right now to see Persepolis? I work with people who get a kick out of the show and they own the company. I take it they're a weeabo, too?

27. Agreed! Though I'm not a fan of East Coast Rising myself. I tried reading it, but its pacing felt too slow to me. Their designs are goregous though. I enjoy Steady Beat's story more, as well as Dramacon, but more because I liked Steady Beat's attack on a touchy subject and Dramacon had some very enjoyable characters. I wish there were more opportunities for these artists overall! And wish they'd get paid more.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-01-26 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh goodness, trolls. And Monkey Island secrets, which are always fab!

1. Fry/Leela is one of my favorite pairings in the history of ever. I'll never quite undersand how a cartoon that mostly comedy has some of the best writing, interaction, and character development I've ever seen.

I'll also add that the world could use more men like Fry. Sure, he's kind of an idiot at times, but he's an honest, fun sort of guy with childlike wonder who genuinely cares about the woman he loves.

13. Oh good lord. So, everyone who draws furry is a, what was that word again, "furfag?" I haven't heard anything so disgusting, ignorant, and arrogant in a long while. And here, I thought part of the joy of fandoms was different people coming together.

26. Another example of an incredibly ignorant statement. I don't mean "you don't know what you're missing" kind of ignorance. I mean, just because something it psuedo-Asian or what-have-you, that overrides any other merits it has. You even admit that it's well-written. But it's "weeaboo" (whatever), so clearly even Bratz would be preferable.

27. The only problem I'd have would be the term Manga. I don't know, but I'm all kinds of interested in comics. I just think that using the term "manga" for original work from the states is just...well, a little bit lame, but also a bit detrimental to American comics in the long run. If you have an original comic published, it's a comic. Especially if it looks like that. I'm tired of getting pigeon-holed as a wannabe manga-artist (nothing could be further from the truth) just because I like the concept of being the writer and artist for my own independant story.

40. Mm, maybe Martin Freeman. Adorable!

41. A) Don't be ashamed or scared. Come on in, the fandom's fine. There's a bit of jostling, but if you read the comments to a lot of similar secrets, you'll see that the older fans are pretty darn nice (or at least, that's my experience).
B) Thank you for using the picture tha pretty much sums up the entire series for me. The Doctor (my Doctor, at that), holding out his hand. Man, how can you not love this show?

5: Unless you can read minds, you have no place in questioning someone else's stated sexual orientation. They know their own damn life better than some twit on the internet. If you are going to bring statistics into it, you might just want to remember that GLBT people tend to hang in GLBT friendly places, fandom being one of them.

11: I'm ashamed to admit, when I read my daughter's my little pony books to her, I'm quietly pairing them off together. Minty x Wisteria is adorably wrong. They even share an icecream cone! <3

26: When you grow up a little you will realize how presumptuous is is to think that people over 20 can't enjoy children's programming. If anything, older people are freer to enjoy children's programming than teenagers, because we are secure enough not to care what bratty twits think about us. You can't tell a person's maturity by their fandom, but you can tell by their assumptions.

to think that people over 20 can't enjoy children's programming

Or read 'children's books.' Diana Wynne Jones is a children's author, and yet she's possibly one of the best storytellers I know.
