I agree with you, anon. The fact that Nomura's name was so prominently featured in the remake teaser made my heart break a little since he's the one mostly responsible for turning it into the Gackt worshipping EU it is.

As much as I would love another chance to get a decent translation of the original FFVII's plot, I don't think we'll ever see the original game anymore because those little but important plot nuances will swept under. It's pretty funny really. A great chunk of the original game is about people who have false memories about something that never happened, kinda like FFVII EU fans have fond memories of a game that never was.

This game will be forgiven if they make the playground rumor true and let you revive Aeris if you win 999 chocobo races.

This sounds a lot like the similar logic from Thief fandom after the new game (just called Thief but it's the 4th game in the series) was announced a couple years back. They didn't want a new game because people might get into Thief through it and they'd rather people discover the original games first (so they could join in with the Thief fandom petting zoo and be angry at every game made after 1999.) The worst part is the whole fandom meltdown was the exact same shitshow they pulled 10 years ago with Thief: Deadly Shadows.

Get over yourself. Re-FF7 isn't going to make FF7 '97 disappear. Other fans' perception of the game isn't going to have an affect on you. Stop whining about how new people might get being an FF7 fan wrong. If the Compilation bugs you that much, don't think about it and don't think about other people enjoying it. Just enjoy the fact that you had the original FF7 at all.

Yeah, the Compilation and the "remake" can go fuck themselves. I don't know why you'd remake something that continues to be considered one of the greatest games ever made, especially if you're going to change the plot and probably throw Gackt in there.

Most people will know the remake isn't the original game, and the ones who don't won't care. At least they'll probably enjoy the game, even if it's a different version? (I get why you think it won't be a better version... Rarely are remakes improvements on the original concept, but the fact that they introduce new people to the canon can be nice. Even if it's a disaster, you'll always have the original game!)

This reminds me of how everyone flipped out when the Devil May Cry reboot happened, lol. I didn't like the look of it and never played it either, but there's not much you can do about it. It existing isn't hurting anyone.

I don't understand how this fandom has the consensus that FF7's localization was both bad and that Aerith's name was somehow NOT subject to localization error.

You can't have your cake and eat it, too. It's irrelevant anyway, since SE has localized it as Aerith in every subsequent FF (barring Tactics) since.

Haven't they said that they're not really going to change all that much, story-wise? There's that out-of-context quote floating around about the remake having some changes to fit in with the dynamics of Compilation better, but he was literally only talking about the battle system when he said that.

I don't like Compilation either-- it fudged so many characterizations. But I'm still totally on the hype train for this remake. Gimmeeeeeeee.

I agree with you OP (minus the name debate, i have no horse in that race and let people use w/e they want to use). I'm not here for Aeris/Aerith to be retconned into saintly little flower girl or other such character changes to fit the Compilation. Not to mention all the possible censoring. My only hope is that the game is a straight update of FFVII, no plot threads from the Complication being tied in.

And i guess that makes me an elitist snob but so be it. also, peeved they skipped over FFV and VI remakes.

It should be "Anshi" not "Anthy" in Utena, but when transcribing from katakana, names tend to get Anglicized a little over-enthusiastically.
