Writing Quandary

I've received a fair few bad reviews for my most recent book. I'm not complaining about those, they happen to everyone and the reviewers are entitled to dislike whatever they wish.

However, I have a character in the sequel who's an art critic. He's an unpleasant (but not irredeemable) grump who's so embittered by his own failure at becoming a professional sculpture he's taken to lashing out at modern art in general.

I wrote him before the first book had even been published, so it's not the case, but now I'm worried the reviewers will think I'm lampooning them. It wasn't intended but I don't want to come across as a dickhead who can't take criticism without lashing out myself.

Ships you liked with romantic storylines you didn't

Sometimes, a show will have a really great relationship between two great characters, who really suit each other and have lots of chemistry and are very endearing and interesting...but the show will handle the romantic story-arc regarding the characters' relationship really poorly. It drags on too long, or it's cliched, or it's repetitive, or it has stupid misunderstandings or contrived obstacles or some such shit.

Sometimes this ruins the couple, but other times, the couple is still great, just that the storyline that affects their relationship kind of sucks.

Any examples that come to mind?

Lack of character development

The writers lose interest on them, or mess up, or ignore all the build up to the character development to keep the character stuck in the same old rut. Share your (least) favorite examples!
